AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

IMight, well I've not yet found a pea that we don't like but we do have favourites - Ross peas (quite difficult to find) and Aldi pettit pois which are my favourites.

I think veggies are a bit overrated. I dropped over some chicken stew to my next door neighbour as we had a lot. She confessed that she didn't like vegetables but that she was sure she'd enjoy it. Little-outspoken-chip-off-the-old-block-Lying blurted out that she "must eat her vegetables so that she'd grow strong and be able to run fast". Our neighbour is 86.

We left very fast, I must say.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 18:15

Janey, very, very, very strongly flavoured houmous/hummus [delete as appropriate] works well for raw celery stalks.

I have never been foolish adventurous enough to buy celeriac, but it's worth a try. Lots of spice powder in the oil might be a thought. Something sort of like Bokkeumbap, only without the specialist ingredients, e.g. using generic Korean Seasoning in a jar from the supermarket?www.souschef.co.uk/bureau-of-taste/kimchi-bokkeumbap/

You could put peas in it, but preferably not episiotomy peas. Envy

Hello all,
Good to see that this thread seems to have settled back into the brassica-based nonsense for which this site is rightly famed.

Please do feel free to continue exploring this theme, however we fear we must briefly drag the conversation back, just to point out that we have checked into the back end and every single accusation of who's-really-who and who's-namechanged-to-what has been plumb wrong.

And now, back to the veggies. Enjoy your evening!

RedDogsBeg · 31/01/2018 19:02

YetAnotherHelen checked into the back end sounds like something Kenneth Williams would say in a Carry On Film, sorryGrinBlush.

Hopefully, that will silence the would-be Sherlocks, why it is such an obsession with them I've no idea.

Could you perhaps float the idea of removing place-markers from certain threads with MNHQ, please.

Celeriac is horrible as is that stuff called Lady's Fingers, Okra I think - YUK.

Celeriac remoulade is a gift from the French gods and lady's fingers are basically snot, is that right?

How would we, realistically, remove place markers? People would have to report them, and we could only delete them, which might upset the OP more? Quite agree that it's not an ideal situation, though, with people openly using such threads for entertainment.

Perhaps it's a question of changing the culture a bit? How do you think that's best achieved?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 19:24

Electric shocks

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 19:24

Sorry thats a bit harsh

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 19:24

And im not sure how you'd manage it

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 19:25

Delete them as a sub-category of spam, perhaps?

Greensleeves · 31/01/2018 19:26

Stickie from MNHQ telling people not to placemark but to use the watch facility instead? Although the kind of rhino-skinned twatwaffle who placemarks on a break-up thread would probably ignore it.

Ladies' fingers = flobberworms

Bluedoglead · 31/01/2018 19:30

Make threads watching show up the same as threads I’m on - hats why people do it, because watching a thread means it doesn’t show up the same

paxillin · 31/01/2018 19:30

I would report any post who disagrees with mine as a clear placemark.

Bluedoglead · 31/01/2018 19:30

Posted too soon.

? Maybe ?

Yes. Sticky advertising that "." and obvious alternatives will be deleted as spam, and then follow through with it. Send automated messages to the posters advising them of the deletion.

To avoid misleading OPs into thinking that there was personal abuse or similar on their thread, what about a specific deletion message? Such as "this post was removed by MNHQ for infringing talkboard guidelines. Reasons: spam".

Bluedoglead · 31/01/2018 19:38

Post was removed for placemarking would be clearer.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 31/01/2018 19:39

Bluedogslead, so you want 'threads I'm on' and 'threads watching' on the same page? Hmmm. See what you mean... and you think that will solve it? We presume it's more something that posters see one person doing and then think 'Uh, okay, that's how it's done," and thus it might be more a cultural change required, maybe you guys pointing out the bookmark option etc...

Bluedoglead · 31/01/2018 19:41

Basically. Yes. I think. Lol
I bet most placemarkers are placemarking because deletion messages etc don’t show up the same in watching

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 19:42

janey

Blush

I got over excited

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 19:43

Helen

It's really 100% a response to deletion messages not showing up in TIW. If you post on the thread, then if when the thread goes, you can see at a glance.

Bluedoglead · 31/01/2018 19:44

I mention that’s exactly what I am trying to say.

Greensleeves · 31/01/2018 19:45

It is quite soul-destroying when you've invested yourself in a thread and then when you go to TIA there's just...a hole where the juicy deletion message ought to be

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 31/01/2018 19:47

Okay doke. Well we can certainly draw attention to this. If you've been on Site Stuff recently, though, you might already be aware that the Tech team are rather snowed under at the moment, but we can put it on our requests and ask them to have a think about how easily achieved it would be. (If we sound like we're hedging it's because we are... Tech are a law unto selves... )
We can but try, however!

RedDogsBeg · 31/01/2018 20:06

I think you should delete them, can you delete the whole post including the header with the posters name etc.? then the thread wouldn't look like Swiss Cheese. Follow with an automated e-mail to the place-marker advising them as to why and how to 'Watch Threads'.

Perhaps try putting a sticky atop all threads re place-marking initially to see if that changes the culture, maybe outlining that you are considering deletions if it doesn't work?

Posters regularly point out the Bookmarking and Watching options to place-markers - it makes not on iota of difference. Put the deletion messages in TIW as well as TIO might help.

Ladies Fingers and Oysters are in the same snot and slime category.
