AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

Does anyone keep a user name longer than a few months these days

Yep

I do change the descriptor sometimes but ive been renegade for ages

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 11:22

I had to google the sigmoidoscopy word Hmm

Brought back painful memories

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 11:30

I used to keep usernames for years at a time, but those days are long over.

MrsDilber · 31/01/2018 11:31

Yanbu

EdmundCleverClogs · 31/01/2018 11:34

JaneyEJones, you and Pandy are very similar (obviously that’s not to say you are the same poster). They also spent an unhealthy amount of time on Reddit, considering how much they supposedly hated it and all those who use that sub. They also liked to call bully, yet had a horrible habit of targeting one poster and rally others to take them down.

To be fair to Pandora though, they managed to recruit more to Reddit with their ‘holier than thou, stick to the guidelines’ attitude than any troll on MN.

Lizzie48 · 31/01/2018 11:34

I've had my username for a couple of months now, and I had my previous one for about six months before that, and that's how long I've been on Mumsnet. I think I'll probably stick with this one now.

I'm rather enjoying watching this bunfight evolve without getting embroiled in it. I wonder how much longer you can keep it going??

OOOOOOOOOOO · 31/01/2018 11:40

Bizarre how lots of these recent comments are by posters who have only been posting in the last few months

I'm not involved in any of the bunfighting but I change my NN every few days. Nothing sinister about it, I just like to ensure I won't be outed.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 11:41

I have name changed to specifically post on a thread once

But thats it, i would quite like a no name change thread or what someone said earlier that MNHQ could check and see if someone had name changed on purpose to be mean

Oooooo

Thats a crosspost Grin

Its only the goady name changers i think are out of order

Not someone who changes out of habit

A poster frightened the life out of me a few months ago I couldn't figure out why they were being so awful

I advance searched them so many times that when i type the first two letters of their name it automatically comes up !!!

Most disconcerting...im like 'BOB!!! Fuck where are they!!'

And relax

SumThucker · 31/01/2018 11:46

I don't believe there's anything sinister about name changing (most times, anyway).

Just observing that the ones on here who seem to have made the snippiest comments appear to have only been posting for a few months.

To paraphrase a pp from earlier, if you're having to name change frequently, you're doing something wrong.

Hey folks

Well, this thread has taken a bit of a turn. There are lots of useful and interesting posts further back, though, so we want to avoid deleting if possible.

We'll be having a further conversation off-board - we're keen to try and understand a bit more about what's going on. But as many of you have pointed out, pulling a fellow MNer into the spotlight by anatomising her posting history in order to prove - well, we're not quite sure what, tbh - is not in the spirit.

We know that lots of you are concerned about (for want of a better description) unwarranted unkindness - the stuff that isn't directly breaking TGs, but has the effect of making MN less helpful, less interesting, less fun. We're keen to keep a lid on it too, so do please report when you see it.

In the meantime, we are listening extremely carefully to all your various points about both trollery and trollhunting, There are many balances to be struck and we don't always get it right, but please don't feel that you are speaking into a vacuum - you're not.

EdmundCleverClogs · 31/01/2018 11:55

JaneyEJones, I never said you were her, you just read very similar.

Since you obviously dislike that sub, any time spent on it would be unhealthy as it obviously infuriates you. Why is it only that part of the internet you activity spy on just to get irate about it? Considering all the other places that take the piss, put down or actively plan to troll MN, you only berate those on that particular sub. Ironically makes you seem like you have a bit of an agenda. This thread was about not liking troll hunting on MN, yet you oddly chose to visit a site outside of here that has been known to troll hunt. Why bother if you dislike troll hunting so much?

SumThucker · 31/01/2018 11:59

Go ahead and try, Janey, I hope it's not a struggle.

Coconutspongexo · 31/01/2018 12:13

I can dish it and take it Janey nothing I’ve posted says I can’t take it.

Coconutspongexo · 31/01/2018 12:14

Janey is obsessed with MNTrolls - last time it was discussed she said she had never ventured onto the sub to look at the posts because she didn’t like it or whatever yet she knows an awful lot about what is posted there.

Frequent name changing just encourages Trolls IMHO. Most forums don't allow this.

ilovesooty · 31/01/2018 12:49

Perhaps instead of a no name change topic all namechangers for privacy reasons should post in OTBT or 30 days only.

KateMumsnet · 31/01/2018 12:50

Let's lay off the personal critiques and axe-grinding now please? Thanks all.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 12:53

Thats true sooty

Or you are not allowed to name change on some boards

Or might that be too difficult

Christinayangstwistedsista · 31/01/2018 14:06

Why do people read Reddit if they don't like it?

Rufus have you taken your Christmas deccies down yet?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 31/01/2018 14:13

Not all of them Grin

There are a few still dotted around
