The one in which Trump orders his staff to fire Mueller, and they give him the finger

Apparently this has already happened, back in July 2017. Shock

But the orange one try again...

I was worried by Maddow's glee. I'm listening to a lot of MSNBC via TuneIn atm I'm sick, shoot me! and I'm not hearing the same sureness that this is nothing.

The approach is similar to Hillary's e-mail that by giving the allegations credibility and examining each statement in forensic detail you start to seed doubt. The right are much better at the propaganda wars. A reverse situation on Fox would probably mean they concentrated on something anything else.

So MSNBC is socialising the view that Rosenstein is finished and a less loud but still audible view that this probably means Mueller is over too. We're on v dangerous territory and I didn't hear that from Maddow as much last night.

cozietoesie · 03/02/2018 15:48

Oh we're certainly on dangerous ground. Which is why I welcomed her input.

Gumpendorf · 03/02/2018 16:01

I always welcome her input, cozie, but I was discomforted by her tone last night. The last time I felt this discomforted was during the election when Obama was on a late night show reading tweets. He read one from Trump saying what a crap President Obama was. Obama's punchline was 'at least I got to be President'. Hillary was ahead in polls at that point, but my gut told me then that Trump would win.

I really hope my instinct was off last night.

PerkingFaintly · 03/02/2018 16:04

I think there's a lot in what you say, Gumpendorf.

I spotted a specific technique among the Trumpettes before the election of posting "Oh I think he's terrible, completely disagree with him, but [insert set message]".

Rinse, repeat. Once set message has been established as "truth", insert next message and repeat.

And I don't know for sure, but I'm wondering if I'm seeing that now with Jacob Rees-Mogg, who of course has been meeting with Bannon to see how Bannon can help him: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jacob-rees-mogg-steve-bannon-meeting-politics-london-hotel-breitbart-tory-a8088001.html

I could be completely wrong of course, and some are bound to be ordinary, in-good-faith posters, but there have been an awful lot of posts saying "Obviously he's awful and I completely disagree with him, but at least Rees-Mogg is honest."

Don't know. I'm just starting to get a bit sniffy whenever there are large quantities of posts saying "Obviously I disagree BUT."

It comes back to that little video illustrating how bots are effective, many threads back.

The purpose is to get real people repeating the talking points of the bots to their friends, regardless of whether they're agreeing or disagreeing. As you say, socialising the ideas.

have you all seen the photos of Melania storming off after they exited the plane yesterday? She looked absolutely furious. And when everyone stood to cheer his speech the other day, she remained seated and stoney faced. All is not well with Melania. I bet she feels so trapped Sad

Gumpendorf · 03/02/2018 16:18

I'm seeing a lot of similarities with Jacob Rees Mogg and the Trump tactics, Perking. Another example was on the Today programme this morning when JRM refused to apologise and doubled down on his accusations. Very Trump. JRM's being revealed as a v nasty piece of work.

As you say JRM met with Bannon, and Bannon now has time on his hands.

Claig's co posters before the election were clearly agitators. I hope Mumsnet are alert to this now.

Or "I dislike both" or "I haven't made up my mind, but..."

Sometimes I feel like David Attenborough. It's interesting when you spot them in the wild. Grin

Lweji · 03/02/2018 16:56

Sean Hannity: "Nobody else will say this: all charges against Paul Manafort and General Michael Flynn need to be dropped."

And there are good reasons for no one to say it.

lionheart · 03/02/2018 16:59

In bot land and Trumpville I suppose it's considered a more subtle approach, Lweji.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 03/02/2018 17:03

Jacob Rees-Mogg is definitely using moves from the Trump-Bannon playbook. It will be interesting to see if it puts the wind up Boris' backside - seeing as how BJ obviously thinks he should be May's successor.

I've finally caught up with this week's shenanigans and am now alternately veering between periods of despair and periods of furious hope (if there is such a thing Smile)

Flowers to Natsku and family for Monday - I hope your brother gets the result you want.

Lweji · 03/02/2018 17:06

It seems to work among unsuspecting pps.
I wish MN had a "bot" option to report posts. It would make things easier.

This is mind-boggling.

Paul Ryan Retweeted AP Business News

A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week ... she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year.

Lweji · 03/02/2018 18:55

I did think that the CDC people I met last year somewhere in Africa (it seems years ago) were too optimistic.

The problem is that when control is working well you don't realise the risk of not having it.
Sad

AcrossthePond55 · 03/02/2018 19:52

Ryan's an idiot.

That secretary's raise may cover her membership, but the way things are going she'll be able to walk in, but won't actually have the money to buy anything.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 03/02/2018 20:24

He’s deleted it now. Don’t think it was very well received

lionheart · 03/02/2018 20:57

The disconnect is mindblowing.

I think that's right Lweji and the result could be so costly.

GingerIvy · 03/02/2018 21:00

The fact that Ryan ever thought it was a good thing to post shows you his mindset.
