NEW: US Ambassador to the UK Woody Johnson met with Trump today at the White House.

But they didn’t finalize a date for Trump's visit to London, Johnson told me.

Dem. @RepJudyChu blasts Trump's decision to invite families of crimes by MS 13 to SOTU, casting it as bid to paint immigrants as dangerous. Chu calls move: “Manipulative. Exploitative. Bigoted. Misleading." and adds Trump's agenda is "driven by white nationalism."

In a normal environment, public comments by the president's son on a sensitive national security issue would indicate he had some direct knowledge of what he was commenting on.

'WASHINGTON — The day after President Donald Trump fired James Comey, he became so furious watching television footage of the ousted FBI director boarding a government-funded plane from Los Angeles back to Washington, D.C. that he called the bureau’s acting director, Andrew McCabe, to vent, according to multiple people familiar with the phone call.'

New, and my first for @TheAtlantic: Nunes claimed he’d been completely cleared by the Ethics Committee. But the panel never actually gained access to the classified intelligence he was accused of divulging after his excursions to the White House last year. www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/devin-nunes-controversy/551792/

Scoop: 8 states have now ended participation in the #Crosscheck program, which is free.

At least two other states (Illinois & NH) are considering bills to prevent Kris Kobach from acquiring their voting data.

Have you seen the invites for the “State of the Uniom” address?

Sorry, Lweji. I'm not seeing it.

boatyardblues · 29/01/2018 22:05

That typo - oh my eyes!

We are just watching the Dirty Money episode about Trump on Netflix recommended upthread. From what I can tell from the included footage, the tendency towards grandiosity and word salad non sequiteurs started in the early 90s. He could string together whole sentences as a young man.

lionheart · 29/01/2018 22:10

Uniom.

Just how?

They have been recalled which, I think makes them a collector's item. Smile

So stories about Wray standing up to Trump were bunk. Turns out he's nothing but a Trump man eager to carry out the President's relentless politicization of law enforcement. Talk about your secret society: It's the disgraceful "I hate the rule of law" club

Uniom has become the new covfefe.

lionheart · 29/01/2018 22:17

'The defense of democratic institutions, norms, values and culture does not always involve standing up for people who have acted heroically. Stories feel better, of course, when it does—when honor goes to those to whom people rally because they have behaved admirably; when the music swells in our minds and it all feels like a screenplay. But democracies don’t function like neatly-ending screenplays. The characters on whom democracies depend may perform erratically; citizens may not fully understand their conduct or motives; people may not trust them.'

McCabe now says FBI head Wray pressured him to step down.

@SenBlumenthal's statement is spot on.

"Congress and the American people deserve a full explanation from FBI Director Wray regarding the circumstances of Deputy Director McCabe's departure."

This is interesting. Some Rs, to their credit, appear to be standing up to the great Nunes gaslighting. And don't forget that Trump wants the Nunes memo released to bolster the fake alt-narrative, so this challenges the president as well

boatyardblues · 29/01/2018 23:00

Returning to post a “yikes!” after finishing the Dirty Money programme. The Trumps are neck deep in shit. God only knows what possessed him to run for public office and the scrutiny that brings.
