Why do I find Phillip and Holly so annoying!!

So, just caught the last bit of This Morning and is it just me or have they become really smug lately? Their egos are through the roof and the way they try and find something really funny and burst out laughing is getting a bit tiresome. These hilarious innuendos or slip of the tongues are not set up at all by them or the production team boring. They can never top Fern Britton's 'see you don't mind dunking a bit of beef' gaff, much as they try.

I do prefer Eamonn and Ruth, much more humble and in touch with the viewers.

Am I the only one who feels like this? I am not Fern Britton by the way Grin

I thought the fact she has a producer for a husband was common knowledge! I knew this and i actively avoid them both on tv.
Nepotism, happens everywhere. Not what you know, but who ..( your married to in Holly's case) goes on in my job too!

whirlygirly · 24/01/2018 21:57

When I was little and there were only 4 channels (god I'm old Grin) I wasn't really allowed to watch itv as it was considered drivel in our house. I'd forgotten that until this thread.

My parents were probably right though.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 22:02

No we weren't either whirly. I think I'm turning into my Dad.

The80sweregreat · 24/01/2018 22:03

Whirlegirly, my parents hated ITV too. They did watch 'corrie ' but that was it. They hated ads and all it stood for.
I think it has rubbed off, although i do watch programmes on there now and again. To be fair, most daytime tv on all channels is dire.

SinglePringle · 24/01/2018 22:06

Holly’s husband doesn’t actually work for ITV and it’s not his job to decide on content for the channel. He actually pitches to the channel (and the BBC). He owns his own production company. That said, Play to the Whistle and Celeb Juice are made by his company (and star HW). DOI is not made by his company.

But I agree with the OP, they are deeply pleased with themselves.

wineusuallyhelps · 24/01/2018 22:11

I don't watch daytime TV, but I did used to like them.

Now they are 100% believers in their own hype, I've gone right off them. It's a shame. Especially Phillip - when I was 11, I was in love with him and his broom cupboard!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 24/01/2018 22:54

Oh Gawd, when I was little there were only three channels! Grin

Fishface77 · 24/01/2018 23:18

Yeah but if you had to wake up to someone in the morning who would it be?
Phil schofield or Gary linekar?
Holly willoughby or Claudia Winkleman?
All as annoying as each other but whose worse?

Onlyoldontheoutside · 24/01/2018 23:57

I stopped watching when Holly joined, she is too plastic and shallow for me.
Like Ruth and Eamon.
Loved Richard and Judy back in the day, also Fern and Philip.

mrsharrison · 25/01/2018 00:04

I thought Fern left cos of a wage disparity between her and Schofield?

DameSquashalot · 25/01/2018 00:47

These comments are making me laugh. I’d hate to get on the wrong side of some of you though. 😺

GinnyJumperoo · 25/01/2018 04:38

To be fair Phil Vickery should have left out of loyalty to his wife. As he did not, he should keep schtum and get on with it.

VanillaSugar · 25/01/2018 06:59

I can't watch Gino di campo anymore once I read that his accent is fake and he stole Paul Young's guitar!

monkeysee100 · 25/01/2018 07:05

Yep. I cringe st the antics. This Morning was innovative at the start but the whole 'just rolled in from the awards', double entendre

I don't even watch but I'm sick of seeing them all over social media and entertainment news because she wore a leather skirt.

I was trying to remember who was before holly and oh my god bring back fern!!

VanillaSugar · 25/01/2018 07:11

Just remember that Amanda Holden is Holly's stand in.

NancyDonahue · 25/01/2018 07:52

Sarah Greene stood in once and was absolutely lovely.

I like Alison Hammond too.

And, Stacey Solomon on Loose Women is a sweetheart.

Just remember that Amanda Holden is Holly's stand in.

Oh fuck I forgot about that Confused

I long for the days of Supermarket Sweep, Kilroy (or Vanessa wink), Anne & Nick

Same...those were the days. They still show supermarket sweep on challenge...I watch it with my DC! The kilroy show was brilliant...I watch old episodes on YouTube sometimes.

uncoolnn · 25/01/2018 08:10

Used to like both Phil and Holly but I agree, they are so smug and up their own arses these days, trying too hard to be funny. I much prefer Eamonn and Ruth.

DameSquashalot · 25/01/2018 08:23

Kilroy was great. We used to watch The Time the Place too.

I don’t actually watch TM, it’s just on in the background when I’m working. The sound is always turned down low.

NancyDonahue · 25/01/2018 09:12

The Wright Stuff used to be a good alternative to TM but it just seems to regurgitate the same old topics now. It could do with a shake up, maybe involve the audience in more of a 'Kilroy' style.

Even my old favourite 'Wanted Down Under' can't hold my interest. Formulaic and predictable and emigrating just isn't as easy or viable as it once was.

Working Lunch was good. I miss that.

Nadia Sawalha did a good show about people who had emigrated to Spain to start businesses etc. That was quite interesting.

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 09:30

Kilroy! My mum definitely had a crush on him. Soooo embarrassing.

MCNamechanger · 25/01/2018 10:35

If I’m at home I now watch Victoria Derbyshire then catch up on stuff I’ve recorded. I used to watch the Wright stuff but moved over to Victoria Derbyshire.

I used to love Anne and nick though. Like Richard and just but ever so slightly less smutty and smug

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/01/2018 10:49

When I'm off I watch Dr Phil on RTE. He has more brains in his fingernail than Schofield and his sidekick put together!! And to the poster who mentioned looking forward to the Channel 5 afternoon movie...guilty as charged!!BlushI even sky plus them when I'm at work!!!

ShowerGel9 · 25/01/2018 10:52

To be fair...a few yeas ago when he did a 24 hour on air presenting thing for charity (I recall a Christmas charity) he did say

" I don't want people to think I'm doing this as an ego boost. I'm doing this to raise lots of money for Text santa"
