...to ask how you get out of bed in the morning?

Just that really. I mean how do you literally force yourself to get up? I snooze my alarm 5/6 times, feel terrible, start every day rushed and late. Each day I think it’ll be different but it never is. Sad desperate for strategies! This has only started in the last year or so - I used to be able to spring out of bed on the alarm. Is there anything that makes it easier?

Woulditbeworthit, so the fitbit does actually wake you? I am desperate to replace my alarm as it doesn't wake me, and drives dd and dh mad. I use the alarm on my phone, volume up full, and set up 5 alarms with different sounds, and that doesn't wake me.

I've just got a vibrating thing which you put under your pillow and set via an app, but I'm not convinced as the app is a bit crap. It did wake me this morning but I set a couple of phone alarms too, just in case. I can switch things off in my sleep......

WonderLime · 25/01/2018 11:34

I’m still in bed Wink

Though when not trying to convince baby to nap, I use an alarm app with one of those soft sounding birds chirping, Sun is shining kind of alarms. Then I get up and brush my teeth straight away as that helps wake me.

restbiterepeat · 25/01/2018 11:34

I stagger out of bed, heart racing in a mild panic, to the yelling of "Maaaaam!" "Maaaam" from the next room. I would rather be woken to the warm glow of a day clock.

Xmasbaby11 · 25/01/2018 11:35

I'm the same as you op. I have to get up at 7 and I hate it. I'm just not a morning person and can't go to bed til midnight..however, I'm fine once I'm up!

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/01/2018 11:36

We have a Lumie on my side of the bed and it's amazing. I love mornings anyway, but this is a lovely way to wake.

DS1 is 12 and struggles for the first 15 minutes of waking on school days so we bought him a Lumie too and it's really helping.

The only one not in need of help is DS2 who firmly believes ay time before 5am is an appropriate time to march in wearing a cape and crown and begin issuing orders

Luxembourgmama · 25/01/2018 11:37

I jump right up. Any other way is too agonising.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/01/2018 11:38

Waking up to the sound of birds chirping sounds good WonderLime.
It would have to be quite loud birds though!

I've been setting a song to come on loudly on my phone in the mornings. I've ruined several good songs now though. If I hear my Alarm Song come on the radio during the day I'm filled with a feeling of dread Grin

grannycake · 25/01/2018 11:40

Loud old fashioned alarm clock which is on the other side of the room. I have to get out of bed to turn it off and it doesn't have a snooze function

Kursk · 25/01/2018 11:41

Alarm goes off at 6:00 and I get straight up and into the shower.

I am a morning person but I would naturally wake up at 7:00.

speakout · 25/01/2018 11:42

Number one rule is get enough sleep.

You will never be a lark if you keep night owl hours.

I set my alarm for 6am. I get up as soon as it goes off. Pad downstairs, switch on coffee machine, quick visit to toilet. Feed and let out the cats. Take cup of strong coffee back to bed.
Check my emails, messages, read the news on my laptop while I drink my coffee. Leave bed at 6.45 shower, tidy the kitchen, leave house at 8am for school run.
All calm and organised.

whiskyowl · 25/01/2018 11:43

I have a sunlight alarm clock. Best thing ever. It means I'm not dragged out of a dark pit by a shrilling alarm, but wake gently and naturally.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/01/2018 11:44

I'm wondering if I've made mornings harder by putting black out blinds in the bedroom? They're great at blocking out the street lights but there's no natural light coming in to wake me up.

BeyondThePage · 25/01/2018 11:45

I wake naturally between 6.30 and 7 and just get up. Same at weekends... Never had a problem.

hellsbellsmelons · 25/01/2018 11:51

6:30 alarm goes off - listen to the news - hit snooze
6:36 alarm goes off - hit snooze
6:41 alarm goes off - hit snooze and turn on bedside lamp
6:46 alarm goes off - listen to traffic report - check phone for messages
6:50 get out of bed
Job done!

Nacknick · 25/01/2018 11:54

Good grief Beyond, that's helpful, I'm sure the OP can just change herself to wake naturally like you....

BeyondThePage · 25/01/2018 12:47

Nacknick,

OK, perhaps I should have said - waking and sleeping is a natural thing, if you are not waking up naturally in the morning and are having to drag yourself out of bed perhaps there is a health problem somewhere, physical or mental, have you been under more stress recently, are you going to bed early enough, what is your sleep environment like, what is your wind down routine like...

Some of us have no problem getting up - that should actually be the default.

I guess I made the mistake of answering the question in the title, not the whole OP.

riledandharrassed · 25/01/2018 12:50

I watched this YouTube clip by Mel Robbins about the “nasa style wake up”

Working for me - I really struggle as well so feel your pain .

Clarabumps · 25/01/2018 18:58

So off the back of this thread I’ve bought a lumie.
I’m training to be a yoga teacher and could really do with getting up early as I could get so much done before the house wakes. I just cannot, cannot get up in the morning.
Until this morning! I set the new lumie for 6.30 and woke at 6.10 then properly got up at 6.27. It was delightful.
I don’t know if it’s just a fluke as it’s the first morning with the lumie but I must say, I am optimistic.

ClaryFray · 25/01/2018 19:01

I find sitting up. Even in bed, with my eyes open helps.

FakeMews · 25/01/2018 19:07

Just go to bed much earlier. Keep bringing bedtime forward until you reach the point where you wake up naturally at your chosen time.

Ollivander84 · 25/01/2018 19:42

Just bought a sunrise clock. Baaaahh Grin🐑

FuckyDucky · 25/01/2018 20:47

This is my second winter with the Lumie, it’s amazing. I couldn’t get up without one now.

jarhead123 · 25/01/2018 20:50

I go to bed early. I quit alcohol. I don't snooze, I get up and give myself time to make a coffee & wake up

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 25/01/2018 20:55

Cutting out caffeine, going to bed early, quitting alcohol.. there must be an easier way surely? Grin
This thread is a great advert for the Lumie clock anyway.

Clarabumps · 25/01/2018 21:55

It is a great thread for the lumie, it was the 45 day trial that threw me. I will know if it’s good ina week or so. I’m really bad at getting up. Terrible. I’ve read loads of research about how I to be a morning person, even started a thread ages ago. I cannot stop snoozing and when I don’t snooze then i just sleep in. It’s the thing I’d like to change about myself. There’s a lot riding on this machine.
