...to ask how you get out of bed in the morning?

Just that really. I mean how do you literally force yourself to get up? I snooze my alarm 5/6 times, feel terrible, start every day rushed and late. Each day I think it’ll be different but it never is. Sad desperate for strategies! This has only started in the last year or so - I used to be able to spring out of bed on the alarm. Is there anything that makes it easier?

Limit sunrise alarm clock, it’s life changing in the winter. Mine is set for 6am so the sunshine starts 5.30 ish and I’m wide awake by 5.50. The DC have them too as eldest needs to be up by 7am. Made such a difference to getting them up in the mornings.
Fitbit vibrating alarm set a few times helps me too. I have that set for 5.40 and then 5.50.

Natsku · 22/01/2018 20:53

Hit snooze two or three times then moan and groan as I try to sit up and get my socks on and drag myself out of bed. Or, as has been the case more often lately (thanks pregnancy insomnia) wake up sometime between 1 and 4, try and fail to fall asleep, and then just get up out of sheer boredom.

I do find it easier to get out of bed if I don't hit snooze though, but I don't have the will power to not do that when I don't have to get up ridiculously early (so I then don't hit snooze because I don't want to disturb OH by having the alarm go off every ten minutes)

Gillian1980 · 22/01/2018 20:53

Me, DH and DD are all terrible morning people.

We snooze multiple times until it’s at the point where we’ll be late for work or DD will miss breakfast at nursery if we don’t get up!

Chienrouge · 22/01/2018 20:54

A pre schooler and a toddler.
I haven’t slept past 6.30am for 4 years. Doubt I’d be able to if I tried.

Another sunrise alarm devotee here. Being woken up gently is so much nicer.

LadyBunnysWig · 22/01/2018 20:55

I just stand up.

It sounds ridiculous but literally just stand up, no matter how tired or how groggy. Once I'm up then I may as well crack on

Ylvamoon · 22/01/2018 20:55

I switch light on as soon as alarm gos off and "jump out of bed" ... Ok more likely to hit snooze, light on, sitting up in bed (to wake up) as soon as alarm goes off again I'm up.

(But I agree, you need something to get up for ... )

Leilani24 · 22/01/2018 20:55

I set one alarm at 5 and then when that goes off I set another for 6. So I know I’ve got an hour to snooze and as soon as my 6am alarm goes off I jump out of bed and put my dressing down on which has been nicely warming up on the radiator for me. I lay everything out the night before so it’s ready to go and I look forward to my eggs and tea while I watch GMB before I leave!

RedPanda2 · 22/01/2018 20:55

I get up about 1.5 hours before DP, do you find the sunrise light wakes everyone up or just you?

FarmerSee · 22/01/2018 20:56

Following... thus is me. I've always been like this though. I have to set my alarm well in advance of actually needing to get up. And I'm often still rushing around like a headless chicken. I hate it.

But it takes me so long to just drop off to sleep in the first place (regardless of how early or late, tired or wide awake I am) I really resent being forced to wake up!

QuiteLikely5 · 22/01/2018 20:56

Drink water

BeeFarseer · 22/01/2018 20:56

Sunrise alarm! I've had it for a fortnight and WOW. I can actually set one alarm and be ready to get up without snoozing.

hollowtree · 22/01/2018 21:01

Well I suck at mornings. I lie next to my DD until her relentless morning 'chatter' makes sleep literally impossible then just get up.

LemonsLemonsLemonsLemons · 22/01/2018 21:01

Oh I like the idea of sitting up in bed when the alarm goes off - I can imagine that might actually help a bit. I’ll try that tomorrow!

For sunrise alarms, does anyone have a specific recommendation? There seem so many out there to choose from! Also, this might sound silly but it’s just a bright light, right? No UV rays or anything that might be harmful? (warding off additional anxiety triggers in advance too Blush )

If you can't resist the temptation to snooze, move your alarm to the hall. I'm not a morning person. I think about how much time I need to be able to get ready so that I'm not heart poundingly risking running late. I don't like that feeling. But I also don't add in time for luxuries like lying in bed awake on my phone or making tea. I get up and go to the shower. I get to work with a coffee in hand and by that time I'm awake!

Bingbongband · 22/01/2018 21:02

I loved my sunrise alarm clock.
I now have a sunrise app on my phone which isn't quite the same but is better than just an alarm.

MrsJBaptiste · 22/01/2018 21:03

I don't snooze my alarm, in fact I'm not even sure how to snooze my alarm!

It goes off at 6.10/6.30/6.4/ depending what day it is then I like for 2 mins and get out. Once downstairs (we sleep in the loft) it's fine and it would be any time of day. Getting up isn't a problem, now getting up a 1e year old is the bane of my life... 😠

Bingbongband · 22/01/2018 21:03

My app is called Glimmer. I'm sure there are others.

MongerTruffle · 22/01/2018 21:04

Put your alarm clock/phone on the other side of the room so that you have to physically get up to get it.

Bingbongband · 22/01/2018 21:04

And go to bed/get up at the same time each day.

SimonBridges · 22/01/2018 21:05

You need a cat. No snooze button on a cat.

Lweji · 22/01/2018 21:07

Change jobs?

Or find something you enjoy to do before work?

Dapplegrey · 22/01/2018 21:07

My dh brings me a cup of rocket fuel coffee and after I've drunk that I'm up and away.
