...to ask how you get out of bed in the morning?

Just that really. I mean how do you literally force yourself to get up? I snooze my alarm 5/6 times, feel terrible, start every day rushed and late. Each day I think it’ll be different but it never is. Sad desperate for strategies! This has only started in the last year or so - I used to be able to spring out of bed on the alarm. Is there anything that makes it easier?

Which sunrise alarm do people have? I’ve seen a Phillips one and and Lumie ones.... anyone have any experience?

MeadowHay · 22/01/2018 22:29

Black I have a Lumie one, love it.

5hell · 22/01/2018 22:30

Sunrise lamp rules here! (When toddler doesn’t wake me)

blackrod we have one of the original Philips ones bought over 10yrs ago and still going strong ...they are pricey , but I would defo recommend :)

Sorry haven't RTFT but haven't seen anyone mention stretching which I find really helps. ( I HATE getting up). So...
7am - Alarm
9 minute snooze - back to sleep
9 minute snooze - I lie on my back under the covers and stretch arms and legs. Then try to contract and relax all muscles head to toe. It's a nice way to wake up.

I found daylight helps so used to have a daylight lamp that I set on a timer - it was an energy saver bulb so too a while to warm up. But also something to think about it your health. Are you getting good quality sleep - ie is partner snoring, are you is it reducing your sleep. Diabetes and pre-diabetes can also effect sleep and make it tricky in the am due t the liver sugar dump first thing meaning blood sugars are high which can mean its tricky to get going. And there are other health issues that won't help as well.

Personally I set one alarm 10 minutes before needed and one at the time needed and get up put something warm on and slippers and move (I keep the house fairly cool at night as I find overheating gives you a sleep hangover as well)

StarShapedWindow · 22/01/2018 22:32

I throw my legs out of the bed and therefore have to sit up, I sit with my head in my hands for about 10 secs and then I feel able to move off the bed. I cheer myself up with the thought of brewing coffee.

mari652 · 22/01/2018 22:33

My daughter asked for a sunrise lamp for Xmas - setting three alarms at different points in her room not working. It has worked brilliantly - she is up on time, in a good mood, no brain fogged rush. Would recommend !

mari652 · 22/01/2018 22:35

The one we bought was a Lumie, btw.

TheOrigBrave · 22/01/2018 22:41

I set my alarm for at least 30 mins before I need to get up, so that I can make a cup of tea and drink it in bed.
I am NOT a morning person, but I often have to get an hour in at work (I work from home) before DS2 wakes, so that I can get my hours and my own interests done during the week. That motivates me.

Oldraver · 22/01/2018 22:42

I moved the clock radio to the other side of the room so I have to actually get out of bed.

Flamingdinosaur · 22/01/2018 22:44

Usually because my baby cries or my dog jumps on the bed Wink

ginorwine · 22/01/2018 22:51

With my hair stuck up in the air .
Dh brings me two cups of tea at the same time .
I sit and sip both then am up .
Wasn't the case when we had small dc tho . !

Lana1234 · 22/01/2018 22:55

5mo wakes me up nowadays Grin but before that I would put a horribly loud alarm at the other side of the room so I'd have to get out of bed

becotide · 22/01/2018 22:56

Go to bed an hour earlier

Catra · 22/01/2018 22:58

I'm seriously considering getting a sunrise alarm after reading this thread. We have a blackout blind to block out a bright streetlight by our bedroom window so the natural light never wakes me up and I can sleep through pretty much any standard alarm - I just incorporate the noise into my dreams!

MakeItStopNeville · 22/01/2018 23:03

I set my iPhone on Bedtime mode to go off 5 minutes before the alarm mode. So, it's a really gentle sound and then, 5 minutes later, a song starts playing. I have to be up at 545 on work days and that works for me.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 22/01/2018 23:04

Catra I can sleep through my alarm(s) too. Sometimes I dream I've got up and I haven't!

I read once that if you bang your head on your pillow six times before sleeping you'll wake at 6. Might be worth a try. Grin

Huntinginthedark · 22/01/2018 23:09

I’ve never set an alarm in my life. I always wake up at the same time if not earlier...
But
I find it very hard to get out of bed. I just struggle to do it, it’s not waking that’s a problem, it’s moving
How the hell do I solve that!

aliasjoey · 22/01/2018 23:14

My alarm is set as late as possible, it means proper sleep instead of half-awake snoozing. When the alarm goes off, I have to get up because there’s not enough time to hit the snooze button.

DrWhy · 22/01/2018 23:20

The toddler either cries in their cot, climbs into my head if they are with me or shouts and pats on on the face of they’ve been released into the room by DH!

Mistoffelees · 23/01/2018 07:41

WRT where to put teasmade milk, mine is just in a little ceramic mug with some foil over the top, I make sure to put it out last thing before I go to bed and it's always been fine in the morning.

R1nderCella · 23/01/2018 07:49

Vitamin D, it changed my life. I felt like weeping every morning because I was so tired. I was so tired every single morning. I don't exactly jump out of bed now, after taking it for over 2 years, buts it's definitely easier.

Woulditbeworth · 24/01/2018 13:05

I’m awful in the mornings but promised myself I’d be better in 2018. My tips so far are

  • be as organised as possible the night before so I wake up knowing everything is prepared.
  • go to bed the same time every night and read to help me switch off.
  • use my Fitbit to wake me up with a vibration rather than a noisy alarm.
  • be consistant

Will be using some of these other tips too.

YourWinter · 24/01/2018 16:34

Ends today, but anyone with a Nectar account they have a Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 on offer for £54.99.

hollowtree · 25/01/2018 11:23

Don't know if this will help with mornings but I was struggling to get off to sleep which was making the mornings harder, so I've started cutting out caffeine after 12 p.m. So decaf tea from then on, and it has made a massive difference to my sleep already.

Also, I want a Teasmaid. That would help me I think!
