...to ask how you get out of bed in the morning?

Just that really. I mean how do you literally force yourself to get up? I snooze my alarm 5/6 times, feel terrible, start every day rushed and late. Each day I think it’ll be different but it never is. Sad desperate for strategies! This has only started in the last year or so - I used to be able to spring out of bed on the alarm. Is there anything that makes it easier?

I have to use dry eye drops when I wake up but my goodness they do help with the transition of sleepy to awake! I'm just like you with the alarms....well 'was' like you....I have a baby now 😂

IloveJudgeJudy · 22/01/2018 21:07

I'm sorry, I haven't read the whole thread. I used to be like you, OP, until I got a job where I had to go up at 3am. I found the only way to survive was to get out of bed immediately, as soon as the alarm went off. I didn't feel any better for keep pressing the snooze button; in fact it made me feel worse.

My advice is, just jump straight out of bed. It really is better.

SleepingBooty · 22/01/2018 21:08

I used to really struggle and had to set an alarm across the room. In the last couple of years I've become a little more of a morning person. This is down to a number of reasons, a new job I like with a later start time and smaller commute so a later alarm. I have a funky wake up tune as my alarm which helps put me in a good mood straight away rather than angry beeps.

megletthesecond · 22/01/2018 21:08

I have a sunrise alarm and a radio alarm. I still hit snooze and take 20 mins to get up. I get dizzy and lightheaded if I don't gradually sit up and have some water.

glow1984 · 22/01/2018 21:08

I don't hit the snooze button

And I have a loud toddler.

We're usually in bed by 10, which helps

I have been thinking of getting a lumie clock, though

Blackteadrinker77 · 22/01/2018 21:08

Getting your diet right is key.

Lot's of veg every day.

NoSquirrels · 22/01/2018 21:08

Am interested in the sunrise alarms & partners with different schedules too ... I’d be on it in a heartbeat if I slept alone but I’d need to compromise with DH.

bhdhnghjn · 22/01/2018 21:10

On the days I have to get up for work (start at 7.30) I put my alarm (phone) over other side of room meaning I have to get up to turn it off, otherwise I would hit snooze for s good 40 mins Blush

MsGameandWatching · 22/01/2018 21:11

At the weekend the dog sits on me if I sleep past his walk time. I don't like thinking of him needing to go out so that helps. Week days are harder but I make sure I get to bed on time and then I tend to walk up naturally and rested after about six hours. If I wake up like that then I am fine. But that sinking feeling as I click through in my mind what has to be done that day. I honestly feel like I could cry many mornings.

MrsPnut · 22/01/2018 21:12

I get up as soon as the alarm goes off at 6am, in fact I am usually awake already.
I get straight in the shower and then go downstairs to make coffee, which I get back into bed to drink before getting dressed.

Clarabumps · 22/01/2018 21:12

Watching with interest, is the sunrise alarm just like a light going on. Dh leaves the big light on when he leaves for work at 6am and I sleep through that too. I need a mallet!

expatinscotland · 22/01/2018 21:13

I fucking hate mornings. They suck. Every.single.one.of.them. Our whole family hates them, too. Sunrise alarms it is! We have one in each bedroom. Terrific for DS who has ASD, too. I think drink loads of coffee.

drivingmisspotty · 22/01/2018 21:14

This is the one I have: www.lumie.com/products/bodyclock-starter-30

It's the most basic one that Phillips do I think - I think the next one up.maybe has the option of birdsong too? I do like it, especially the sunset function actually which dims it slowly over 30mins and really makes me drift off.

The sunrise is great and I wouldn't be without it now but I haven't been TOTALLY AMAZED by it. I am very good at sleeping through alarms so also have a back up traditional noisy alarm on my phone and have also been known to switch that off and then sleep through the sunrise (it switches itself off again 30mins after it has fully 'risen').

Like others said it really helps if I sit up and also drink some water.

Good luck!

peachgreen · 22/01/2018 21:14

Sunrise alarm is just a light but it's the right sort of brightness to mimic sunlight (and mine has a nice rays pattern). We have a Lumie, the mid-range one works fine for us as we only use the sunrise light function. It wouldn't work if you have different wake up times I guess but DH and I always wake up at the same time anyway - I'm on mat leave at the mo so I sometimes go back to sleep after he's left but it's nice to have a cuppa and a chat in the morning!

EllaHen · 22/01/2018 21:15

Dh brings me a coffee for about one and a half minutes after my alarm going off. That helps big time.

Oh, and I have never learned how to turn snooze on with my mobile phone alarm. Wink

Mistoffelees · 22/01/2018 21:16

I wanted a sunrise alarm clock but DH has such funny shifts it'd be no good for him to be woken up at the same early time every morning. I went for a teasmade instead which does still wake him up with the noise but he's able to drop off again whilst I'm sat up in the dark drinking my tea and looking at my phone, it helps make me actually sit up, I have no willpower to just sit up for no reason lol

ApproachingATunnel · 22/01/2018 21:16

I’m lucky because naturally I’m an early bird. Unless I’m knackered I open my eyes, sit up and off I go...
Being like this has massively helpful with young kids I reckon, that’s why I’m still functioning.
My only advice is you need to go to bed earlier.

user1497997754 · 22/01/2018 21:16

Get up straight away and go to the bathroom and splash cold water on your face guaranteed to wake you up....my dad taught me this from a very young age works everytime

BonnieF · 22/01/2018 21:17

I get up with considerable difficulty. I am not a morning person. At all. Never have been, never will be.

For me, the only thing that works is to set my alarm to go off at the latest possible time, i.e. 0800, to allow me to get to work on time. I then get up pretty much immediately, because there is no alternative and if I don't, I will be late for work. The snooze button is the enemy. I never press it because if I did, I would oversleep.

At weekends I stay up late, until at least 0200, and then have a proper lie-in, which allows me to operate closer to my natural body clock.

foodiefil · 22/01/2018 21:18

I read something, maybe on here, about remembering that it's the worst you'll feel all day.

I also second just getting up and out of bed! When I was on an early shift at work and had to get up at 4 I just leapt up for fear of falling back asleep. Always felt fine after a few minutes

Els1e · 22/01/2018 21:18

My sunrise alarm. No irritating noise, which you instinctively want to stop. Just a gradual lighting up. I have the Lumie one but I have no idea if it is any better or worse than any of the others. I think there are some where you can select birdsong to go with the light. I would love that. The cat patting my face because he wants breakfast also helps.

FluffyWuffy100 · 22/01/2018 21:18

Getting enough sleep helps!

Sunrise alarm clock helps.

Opening the curtains or turning on bedside light helps.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 22/01/2018 21:20

You need to get out of bed, nonpoint in delaying the inevitable, you only made yourself stressed and harassed.

FluffyWuffy100 · 22/01/2018 21:20

If I’m really tired tho I seem to turn away from the sunrise alarm clock and stuff my head between the pillows to get away from the liggt

PositivelyPERF · 22/01/2018 21:21

Sunrise for all of us too. We’re all terrible night birds, then can’t get up. Though be careful where you put it. Too close to the bed and you turn around to face it then your eyes explode. Not really, but it felt like that! 😲 I put mine across the room. The light gradually increases and you wake up gently instead of the shock of an alarm going off.
