As above (at the risk of sounding tin foil hat) and if we're not, what the hell is going on in the world, what's causing it?

"I might want to put such a shocking theory to the test". Maybe they have? And again, we'll never know now, will we?

Well, I have good reason to think that they haven't put the flat earth theory to the test by flying somewhere in an aeroplane/walking over the horizon, because I myself have performed such tests enough times to reach a confident conclusion that the surface of the earth is indeed curved.

So yes, I do know that the earth is not flat. There are some things we will never know, but that isn't one of them!

Vitalogy · 24/01/2018 15:38

Have you heard the theory that Avril Lavigne died and was replaced by her own body double? I've not heard that one, what about the Stephen Hawking one.

Falmer · 24/01/2018 15:39

squishy so you were becoming a flat earther and went to test it? Grin (Joke)

Flat Earth - so much evidence to support this. Like I said check out that video.

Dear God. There's probably more evidence to the existence of God than for a Flat Earth.

squishysquirmy · 24/01/2018 15:49
Grin No, the aim of the flights/walks etc was not to put that theory to the test, but I am still confident that the earth is curved, having witnessed it's curvature for myself! There are some theories which are more difficult to prove for ourselves i such an obvious way, which is why I do tend to take flat earthers less seriously than those who have conspiracies which are harder to prove/disprove with our own eyes.

I mean, its one thing to be so hyper paranoid as to distrust the governments, the schools, the scientists, the media, etc etc but to not even trust the way the horizon moves?

eg, I have seen experiments performed which mimic the way contrails are formed at high altitudes and low temperatures but I know that not everyone has.
But anyone and everyone can see the evidence of the curved earth for themselves!

Its like someone claiming that gravity is a conspiracy. I would not give that opinion much of a hearing either.

Didn't know Finland doesn't exist? Strange that, because dd's just been thereHmm Does anyone have a link please? I'll show dd.

There was a whole thread on MN about the missing Finland and I saw something on FB. Hilarious stuff, really.

Lweji · 24/01/2018 15:53

I mean, its one thing to be so hyper paranoid as to distrust the governments, the schools, the scientists, the media, etc etc

The idea that scientists engage in conspiracies is really quite amusing.
We simply don't have the time for that stuff. Not with all the grant application, reports, teaching, congresses, paper writing, etc that we have to do.
Not to mention how competitive we are. We're more likely to tear each other to pieces with competing theories than get together in shady offices to cobble up any random conspiracy.

Lweji · 24/01/2018 15:55

Better than missing Finland is that a piece of Australia belongs to North America.

True story.

www.smh.com.au/technology/sci-tech/new-research-suggests-australia-and-north-america-were-once-neighbours-20180119-h0lbbm.html

Reality is so much more interesting than conspiracy theories.

Falmer · 24/01/2018 15:56

blackberry, you never quite get me. Obviously I've always questioned, I'm talking about the "alternative" views.

I know Lweji.

I mean that I sort of hold conspiracy theories on a scale of daftness, with the routine use of Chemtrails being very, very, very daft and a flat earth being way, way down the far end of the scale, past lizard queen Liz, missing Finland and mermaids reading our thoughts that it can't be seen (ironically, as it has passed over the daft horizon).

whooptifeckindo · 24/01/2018 16:16

Op, enjoy daft ness - it should bring you a few smiles in tough times. But don't get sucked in because that way unhappiness lies. And there's enough real life unhappiness.

You are funny blackberry yep, she had a very stressful job, her nerves were shattered. She's gone travelling, don't know what she's going to live on when she comes back! She's now in Spain. Think she said it was 3 flights to get from finland to portugal. Stop being so sceptical! There's no risk of your brain falling out is there, it's not open at all. But at least you've stopped diagnosing me as mentally ill so that's something.

Three flights to Portugal and now in Spain? That sounds very far fetched. How did she get to Spain? Hmm
I blame te noihydc. You can't get a bigger conspiracy than that.

Falmer · 24/01/2018 16:59

Yep blackberry unbelievable, isn't it, that a young woman with no children has gone travelling with her hard earned cash? They started off in Iceland, then finland, then portugal and now spain. Her favourite place was portugal because apparently smoking weed is allowed! Of course, the sunshine helps.

Finland to Portugal is often three flights to be fair.

Finland -> Narnia -> Neverneverland -> Portugal
