AIBU to think this chancer (with a horrible makeup) is just an entitled, freeloading brat?

VLogger asking for a free hotel room and gets a beautiful reply from hotel owner.

Both people got lots of free advertising here.

But only because it's blown up in such a media storm. Had the hotel owner agreed to her request for a freebie, he would have been out of pocket to the tune of whatever costs he incurred in letting her stay for free. She has given him no indication whatsoever that her followers are of the appropriate demographic to be booking weekends at boutique hotels in Dublin with their boyfriends.

Had she been serious about her "business proposal" she would have gone about it in a businesslike manner. She didn't. She got called out on it. Then did the vlog equivalent of a DM sad face story. I would also be very interested to hear how much money she's actually making in a very crowded marketplace with very little in the terms of USP.

Boo hoo.

I was Watching this week on Monday night, a programme about 16 birthday parties. There was one girl who was turning 16 having a 'party' she was a vlogger, or instagrame addict, and she was planning this posh birthday party at a nice restaurant, with a lovely cake. Those who came to her party were strangers who were also vloggers, all on their phones instagraming, and sharing pictures of them pretending to have a good time. They were more concerned with their social media, than the party, that included the party girl. Nobody looked like they were really having fun, looked quite sad.

I bet in about 10 years time or whatever, when she has grown up a bit, she will look back and feel sad, that she did not have a nice party with her real friends who know her, and letting her hair down; instead of with strangers on their phones taking meaninless selfies pretending they are having a good time.

I agree K2, you live and learn. I suppose its the generation that want money the easy way, don't we all.

SingingSands · 19/01/2018 14:52

Goodness what a gasbag. She could have made her point in less than 3 minutes, instead of hysterically repeating herself for 17.

I’m feeling rather victimised myself now, what with being very far over 30 and obviously wanting to hold my child back from her dreams - my DD dreams of being a lawyer but how can I convince her this is not following her stardust and instead she should be vlogging and begging for free stuff?

ArcheryAnnie · 19/01/2018 15:13

Am laughing a bit at where she says that being featured in her vlog was "amazing" for Universal Orlando. Yeah, I'm sure that Universal needs her "exposure" to sell hotel rooms.

Also, the hotelier seems like a dick, but she'd have known that if she'd spent 30 seconds googling the hotel first.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 15:26

And sort out your fake eye colour contact lens, your eyes are bleeding!

RTFT. Apparently had eye surgery. Why the nastiness?

seething1234 · 19/01/2018 15:33

There's a pair of them in it. Am I right in thinking that restaurant owner is fond of putting up quite mean posts? It looks like she has conjunctivitis

TheEagle · 19/01/2018 15:37

That is an understatement; Google him or look at the White Moose Cafe FB page. He’s unpleasant in the extreme.

MadMags · 19/01/2018 15:39

He's a nasty, disablist, misogynistic, elitist, vile, bullying egomaniac.

So yeah, you'd be right in thinking he is fond of putting up quite mean posts.

kikisparks · 19/01/2018 15:48

This is almost certainly a publicity stunt. The white moose cafe (attached to hotel) previously banned vegans for publicity in the fail etc. Might both be in it together.

Member984815 · 19/01/2018 15:57

She should have researched the hotel better , the owner is huge on social media and has a massive following also in the last 2 weeks there has been a huge backlash against 'influencers ' in Ireland so she couldn't have picked a worse time for this

Idontevencareanymore · 19/01/2018 16:01

I see why he wasn't impressed.

She didn't take the effort to write his name, she's used a generic email that looks like it's gone out to any and every hotel in Dublin and surrounding area.
She's used universal as a selling point. Like hello, they don't need advertising let alone give away freebies to sell their product.
She's not disclosed the audience who would view and "book" based on her review. I doubt many teens would be able to book a boozy Dublin holiday, if her audience is 18+, that's more achievable.
Lastly as he pointed out, she's not going to slate it anyway! It could be minging and she'd put a silver lining on it.

The sympathy was lost on me though after hearing she asked for discount or complimentary stay. She didn't. At all. Finally the definition of bullying, is prolonged name calling. Over a period of time. This incident is just people being mean. It really diminishes the actual definition of bullying when people throw that around. No bullying here at all.

mishfish · 19/01/2018 16:04

I hate that I know this but she recently had lazy eye correction surgery which is why it’s red

PoorYorick · 19/01/2018 16:08

Is it?

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 16:15

Finally the definition of bullying, is prolonged name calling. Over a period of time.

So bullying is only ever bullying if it happens over a long time? Okayyyy Hmm

PoorYorick · 19/01/2018 16:27

bully
ˈbʊli/Submit
verb
gerund or present participle: bullying
use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force them to do something.

asprinklingofsugar · 19/01/2018 16:37

Also according to the Oxford English dictionary (online), the definition of cyberbullying , is: "The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature."

Elphame · 19/01/2018 16:41

I could only watch a few moments of this - I expect the hotel owner is sick to death of young wannbees with an inflated sense of their own worth trying to get free accommodation. I know I am.

DreamyMcDreamy · 19/01/2018 16:42

You only need to look at Twitter to see there's definitely been a lot of that. And those are only the ones we can see. We don't get to see the trolls that no doubt sent messages/comments to her.

GinUnicorn · 19/01/2018 16:46

As someone who gets around 4 emails a week from bloggers etc I can understand his frustration although I think it is a bit harsh to publish.

In terms of these offers they csn be pretty frustrating. For one thing the exposure is generally not worth much, not impartial if paid for and in a lot of cases not of a high standard.

I happily work with reputable bloggers. The difference being they wouldn't send a blagging email and understand the difference between collaboration and exploitation.

I will say this vlogger isn't overly bright saying those over 30 don't understand social media as I would immediately blacklist her on this alone. Us 30 somethings are the people who might hire her!

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/01/2018 17:06

Thing is Elphame the hotel owner an inflated sense of his own worth (and has also tried to get free accommodation according to a few reports on this thread).

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/01/2018 17:10

Well I messed up trying to quote Elphame post there didn't I!

battenbergbutterfly · 19/01/2018 17:10

She is so self absorbed. I'd make a point of avoiding like the plague anything she recommended.

Elphame · 19/01/2018 17:24

I wouldn't know stripey. I haven't bothered to look up the name of the hotel or the owner. It doesn't matter.

I have little time for vloggers and bloggers and the "journalists" who think that a mention in a rag is worth the cost to me of the heating/lighting/cleaning/rates/insurance/etc/etc that they incur. Not to mention the turning away of an actual paying customer.

It isn't.

(Funny that they never ask for a weekend in January.... it's always a peak date!)
