AIBU to think this chancer (with a horrible makeup) is just an entitled, freeloading brat?

VLogger asking for a free hotel room and gets a beautiful reply from hotel owner.

She totally played up to the Millenial stereotype by blaming people not involved in her beef- 30+ year olds.
She got out-played by a 30+ year old anyway.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/01/2018 18:56

Just who do those ridiculous airheads think they are?

RoseWhiteTips · 21/01/2018 18:58

The hotel guy was right. He only made her feel the embarrassment she already is. She should be used to it.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 18:59

The Hotel and its owner has its own social media reputation to uphold. He wants to be considered funny in a nasty way and has cemented that reputation with this stunt.
I don't believe that she's the first vlogger to do this to him.

LadyBunnysWig · 21/01/2018 18:59

Companies do it. It’s advertisement.

Yes companies do it... when they want to. When they decide to use bloggers to gain an interest or reach a new market. It is up to the business owner to offer their product for free, not for some nobody to decide they deserve free shit while they have a romantic getaway.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 19:03

She calls herself a fitness vlogger but didn't even pretend that there was a fitness reason why her followers would be interested in the Hotel.

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 19:06

In other news, imagine being 22 and behaving like that. At that age I had a post graduate qualification.

Ooh, get you! you must be real clever then. Hmm

caroline161 · 21/01/2018 19:08

What's wrong with her eyes? Confused

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 19:10

What's wrong with her eyes?

SURGERY. Do people really not read any of the thread and just pile in for a kicking?

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 19:11

Also wanted to add that many teens and children don't buy into the possibility that their favourite YouTubers give positive reviews because it's a freebie or they get commision on sales or something. They see their idol and assume that they are good people who'd never con them. Elle admits that a freebie will mean automatic positive review.
I know there was a lot of chat about beauty bloggers and vloggers not always disclosing paid for content.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/01/2018 19:13

I think this deserves as many airings as possible.

Dear Social Influencer (I know your name but apparently it’s not important to use names),

Thank you for your email looking for free accommodation in return for exposure. It takes a lot of balls to send an email like that, if not much self-respect and dignity.

If I let you stay here in return for a feature in your video, who is going to pay the staff who look after you? Who is going to pay the housekeepers who clean your room? The waiters who serve you breakfast? The receptionist who checks you in? Who is going to pay for the light and heat you use during your stay? The laundering of your bed sheets? The water rates? Maybe I should tell my staff they will be featured in your video in lieu of receiving payment for work carried out while you’re in residence?

Lucky for us, we too have a significant social media following. We have 186k followers on our two Facebook pages, an estimated 80k on our Snapchat, 32k on Instagram and a paltry 12k on our Twitter, but Jesus Christ, I would never in a million years ask anyone for anything for free. I also blog a bit (www.paulvstenson.com), which as far as I’m aware is another way of saying “write stuff on the internet”. The above stats do not make me any better than anyone else or afford me the right to not pay for something everyone else has to pay for.

In future, I’d advise you to offer to pay your way like everyone else, and if the hotel in question believes your coverage will help them, maybe they’ll give you a complimentary upgrade to a suite. This would show more self-respect on your part and, let’s face it, it would be less embarrassing for you. Here is a little video I produced which you may learn from: bit.ly/2mKTDTD

Best regards,

Paul Stenson

P.S. The answer is no.

An excellent response to this incredibly stupid request. How dare she?

Letsmaketheworldbetter · 21/01/2018 19:13

Once again she’s not the only vlogger who does this

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 19:16

Exactly, she did absolutely nothing wrong apart from make a crap pitch.
HE did.
Interesting to see which posters never left the school playground - clear bullies always have been bullies and always will be.

caroline161 · 21/01/2018 19:16

Sorry, read through the thread but couldn't see any mention of her eyes. Wasn't piling in for a kicking, just wondered if anyone knew what was wrong with her eyes, they look sore.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 19:25

She had an operation on her eyes.

LadyBunnysWig · 21/01/2018 19:26

HE did.

But she did! It's wrong to demand freebies for personal gain and we should be teaching our children that rewards are earned. It's cheeky to approach a business that has shown no interest in you or your unrelated blog. It's even cheekier to do no research on the hotel first or at least use the managers name in the email.

What he did was also wrong but it doesn't make what she did right.

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 19:30

You might not like it or agree with it, but it IS a perfectly legitimate job and people pitch to others all the time in the .

they all do it.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 19:30

Once again she’s not the only vlogger who does this

but it's not possible for us to know every vlogger who does try to blag a 5 day freebie because it's valentines.
Has anybody offered her the free accomodation as the usual script for these stunts requires?

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 21/01/2018 19:32

lots of jobs involve cold calling.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/01/2018 19:44

He did nothing wrong except furnish her with a reality check. Those of you who think HE was in the wrong have got a skewed view of the world. WeirdHmm

The first two are worthwhile uses of time; the other two are not.

LadyBunnysWig · 21/01/2018 19:56

No she certainly isn't the only blogger who does this... that's the problem. We get inundated with requests for freebies on a daily basis. Sometimes we have to deal with abuse for saying no or bad reviews written because we've said no. Tbf, her email was so cheeky I'm not surprised she was the straw that broke the camels back.

Also, the hotel was going to gain nothing from this 'collaboration'. If she was an actual travel blogger who had a following of people who were interested in visiting new cities and who had disposable income, then it would be more understanding. Her blog heavily focuses on health and beauty. Her followers are typically younger females eg students, many of whom won't have the funds to necessarily visit the hotel. Because of the nature of her blog they probably also wouldn't be interested in the hotel and her vlog and pics would have been based on her, not the hotel.

And finally, the time she was proposing to stay will be a busy weekend for the hotel. Any blogger worth their salt would know you make these requests (if you're cheeky enough) at off peak times as you're not taking the place of an actual paying guest and therefore revenue for the hotel.

It's another form of media. There's the print media, and then there's online media.
You'd have to be spectacularly stupid to discount an entire platform and audience just because it's not the "old fashioned" way.

Bloggers and Vloggers are usually freelancers. 😂 Is it the quality or lack of training that puts you off Vloggers and Bloggers? I am 40 bit have watched good quality online reviews of products, films etc

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 21:01

Exactly! Grin
Really interesting how it's perceived as print freelancers - worthwhile, online media freelancers - not.
It's the same thing!
Strange how some are so sniffy towards vlogs and blogs, it's truly bizarre.
