Okay not her racism, sexism and anti gay views. But there is so much explicit sex and nakedness on TV now, I do wish there was someone in the public eye speaking out against it.

glamorous Yes true, her misogyny was obvious.

It isn't reasonable to expect that because you don't agree with something it shouldn't be on television

Sometimes it is reasonable.

Justanotherlurker · 18/01/2018 16:12

John Lydon has done anything worse than swear on TV

He got a ban from the BBC when he was hinting about Jimmy Saville, albeit he did say he wish he could kill him.

tiredbutFESTIVE · 18/01/2018 16:12

Chimney reck-on?

tiredbutFESTIVE · 18/01/2018 16:13

CHINNY reck-on ffs

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 16:22

I don't care if people don't agree with me that we should not have explicit sex or nudity on TV.

Then why start a thread on AIBU? Do you just like starting goady arguments that you have no intention of seeing from another point of view, or at least come up with a compelling argument for your own opinion instead of dismissing others?

Sorry for the double post, MN website froze when I pressed ‘post’.

Parky04 · 18/01/2018 16:25

Read it wrong thought we were discussing Amy Winehouse!! I suppose they were similar!!

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 16:30

Edmund Well done selectively quoting.

If I am honest I expected most people to agree with me and am surprised they haven't

KenForPM · 18/01/2018 16:30

HmmHmm OP clearly isn’t going to listen. Pps attempt to explain but she just sticks her fingers in her ears going “blah blah blah!!!” HmmHmm
Like it or not OP sex and nudity is part and parcel of life. Nobody is forcing you to watch it, there are plenty of shows without sex or nudity. Stop whinging.

Graphista · 18/01/2018 16:30

The point I was making (as you WELL know) is that the people making the art viewed men as erotic as well as women so your earlier 'argument' that art depicting nude male form wasn't erotic was nonsense!

And stop being so condescending - just because people don't agree with you doesn't mean they're wrong OR stupid! Angry

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 16:33

Edmund Well done selectively quoting.*

It wasn’t selective, it was a very telling quote to your attitude. Further proven with the second part of your post here. Why on Earth would you assume/expect most would agree with you on this matter?

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 16:34

And I said that Greek art of men was not made for erotic reasons. Yes some people may have got off on it, but that was not its purpose.

No, you're not alone. I think there is too much general shite on television anyway but the idea of a programme about choosing someone based on their naked bodies is abhorrent. There is far too much televised sex for no reason, tits for no reason, rape for no reason.

Crunchy if you take up the Mary Whitehouse mantel, I will be behind you all the way.

If I am honest I expected most people to agree with me and am surprised they haven't which, tbf, was MW's (the joyless funsucking prude) general ethos. Professional busybody and as op herself said, a racist, homophobic, nasty woman. I'm an adult, I choose what to watch on tv or films.
But I'm loving chimney reckon.

1 I wasn't just referring to Greek art Confused

2 how can you POSSIBLY know the intent? Experts who've studied such like for years can't agree - you're very arrogant.

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 17:01

FlippityDip Thank you, but I really don't think I could deal with the inevitable abuse.

Apologies for the three posts....no idea what happened there.

Want2bSupermum · 18/01/2018 17:03

My uncle worked for the BBC in the late 70s and early 80s. He told my Dad there was some seriously shady things going on. My dad said that he is shocked that my uncle wasn't lying. My uncle passed in the early 90s and before passing wrote a letter to be used as evidence against these people when it all comes out because the Police refused to take a statement. In that letter he said that Mary Whitehouse was promoted by the BBC to detract from the perpetrators who were the ones inflicting real damage on young children, particularly young boys. For that reason alone I don't miss Mary Whitehouse.
