To miss Mary Whitehouse?

Okay not her racism, sexism and anti gay views. But there is so much explicit sex and nakedness on TV now, I do wish there was someone in the public eye speaking out against it.

The naked dating show is fine. It's sick shit like Law and Order SVU and the endless shows with dead naked women all over the place that are the problem.

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 14:10

Do we really want to be saying to young people that this kind of thing is acceptable?

What - being naked? Having sex? These are both normal and healthy parts of adulthood, why shouldn’t they be represented in film and tv?

DreamyMcDreamy · 18/01/2018 14:11

Do we really want to be saying to young people that this kind of thing is acceptable? And why the need for explicit sex scenes? It is rarely necessary.

I agree. Not much on telly is actually child friendly anymore.

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 14:13

No, poor children. Not like there are several child-dedicated channels out there Hmm.

Choosing a date on the basis of their penis

To miss Mary Whitehouse?

No.

Am I really alone in thinking this kind of thing is not okay?

Probably Yes. Unless of course you are forcibly made to watch naked dating shows? Hmm

I rarely if ever see sexual or naked stuff on tv primarily because I'm a reasonably intelligent adult fully capable of deciding the type of programmes I want to watch. In fact I can't remember the last time I saw sex or nakedness on tv.

I am anti the nanny state - if you want a nanny, hire one.

FissionChips · 18/01/2018 14:13

As long as it’s shown after the watershed I don’t care, I just don’t watch.

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:13

I think this is why Strictly and Bake Off do so well. Because they are gentle family entertainment.

numbereightyone · 18/01/2018 14:14

There is a sense that if you don't like nudity and sex on TV that you are unsophisticated. I think that the opposite is true.

cantucciniamaretto · 18/01/2018 14:15

I agree. Not much on telly is actually child friendly anymore

Almost everything is.

Mxyzptlk · 18/01/2018 14:15

Isn't bake off full of innuendo? (I don't watch it tho)

petbear · 18/01/2018 14:16

No. Don't miss her at all.

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:17

Yes some innuendo, but not explicit sex scenes

OP posts:
crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:17

Although explicit rape scenes are the worst

OP posts:
Grohlidays · 18/01/2018 14:18

Er, no. Cannot see a problem with 'explicit sex' (the phrase sounds a bit pearl-clutchy to be honest) or nudity. I agree that the idea of picking a date based on pube topiary is a bit alien to me, but you get a greater range of bodies on show than anywhere else on tv. I think it should be required viewing for KS3.

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2018 14:18

Why don't you speak out then crunchy?

I think there's less nudity on TV than when I was a child and it was considered fine to ogle women.

The dating show is on fairly late and you don't have to watch it. I've never seen it.

hellsbellsmelons · 18/01/2018 14:19

Well I watched 'Naked Attraction' for the 1st time a week or so ago.
I was amazed at how 'unsexual' (if that's a word) it actually was.
It was actually quite refreshing to see people choosing based on a naked body rather than face and clothes and fakery, etc....
And it made me feel a hell of a lot better about my C-section tummy.
I think it gives are far better body image to others.
They don't look like models (perfect size 8) or porn stars.
Willies are all odd and most women do have a tummy and cellulite.
Far more realistic than other dating shows.

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 14:20

I think this is why Strictly and Bake Off do so well. Because they are gentle family entertainment.

Ok now I know you’re taking the piss. Bake Off - the one full of innuendo? And strictly, where the women are all dressed up in tight, revealing clothing? One year one young girl’s boobs actually fell out live on pre-watershed tv...

Ghanagirl · 18/01/2018 14:24

I’ve never heard of “Naked dating show”
OP you could always read I’ve just finished “Everything Everything” which is fab or try watching Sarah Lancashire in “Kiri” also good, and so far she’s kept her clothes on.

Unfinishedkitchen · 18/01/2018 14:24

Nakedness and sex is normal. I’ve got far more issues with the normalisation of violence. Ever other American movie poster seems to depict someone holding a gun.

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:25

Innuendo has always been part of British culture.
No I genuinely wish there were no explicit sex scenes on TV and no nakedness except for sex education programmes.

OP posts:
crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:27

I watched Kiri last night, fabulous programme.
The only semi naked scene I liked was the shower scene in No Offence, but that was making a point and was fabulous.

OP posts:
Alwaysinmyheart · 18/01/2018 14:28

Well there’s always Ann Widdecombe, she’s doing a pretty good Mary Whitehouse impersonation on CBB at the moment!

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/01/2018 14:30

Innuendo has always been part of British culture.

So was sex and nakedness at one point. In fact it was only quite recently in our history (the Victorian era) where we became so conservative. If we look at Europe, some of the worlds best culture has come from sex and nudity.

crunchymint · 18/01/2018 14:32

Can you give me an example of the worlds best culture that has come from sex and nudity?
