I was just wondering how long you and/or your DP/DH/DW spend each day commuting to and from work if you don't work from home.

Also, how do you travel to get there?

3 minute walk to work.

Do I win the thread?

Yura · 17/01/2018 20:28

10 min walk, either 30 min or 45 min train, and either 20 min or 30 min walk (I work in 2 different locations)

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/01/2018 20:31

I work from home regularly but when I go into the office I commute from just outside Birmingham to London. So about 20 mins to station, 1.5 hours on the train, and 40 mins on the bus at the other end to get there, then the reverse home.

Intelinside · 17/01/2018 20:36

4 to 4.5 hours a day by train/walk. If they run on time. #FuckYouSoutheastern

Intelinside · 17/01/2018 20:37

OH - 15 mins drive each way. Lucky bastard.

NotAChristmasCakePop · 17/01/2018 20:38

I walk downstairs Grin
DH currently works 2.5miles from home

Bouledeneige · 17/01/2018 20:39

On a good day 1 hour, bad day 1.5 hours, normal day 1hr 15mins.

Done it for 10 years but often out and about in different places.

Diplomum · 17/01/2018 20:39

Drive 10 mins to the station, 25 mins on the train, anywhere between 45 - 90 mins across London by bus. And back at night. 4 days per week, one day I work at home.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/01/2018 20:42

me - 7/8 mins by car in morning but do school pick up on way home so it's 20 minutes from work to school and then 15/20 home from school. I'm not counting the time sat in my car waiting.

DH - about 3 minutes if he takes the car - about 15/20 minutes walking.

khajiit13 · 17/01/2018 20:43

20 mins for me. 7 mins for OH but he almost always drops LO off which is in the other direction so more like 20 minutes

grinchymcgrinchface · 17/01/2018 20:44

1-1.5 hours drive for me and Dh 20 minute drive.

WhiskyChick · 17/01/2018 20:44

2 busses, 1.5 hours then a 30 minute walk each way

crackerjacket · 17/01/2018 20:47

Drop dcs at nursery, catch train to work, takes 45 mins. So an hour in total.

I don't usually collect them from nursery, DH does, so I catch the train then the shuttle bus home it''s around 50 mins.

5 mins walk to station from work.

CakeNinja · 17/01/2018 20:48

7 minute walk including dropping dc off at school (I work at the school next door!).
Dp - between a 10-30 minute drive depending on where he’s working that day.
I couldn’t be fucked with driving for hours a week, dead time. Understand lots of people have no choice, but I wouldn’t choose to do it.
My BIL has a minimum of a 4 hour commute every day.
That’s 20 hours per week absolute minimum of him being stuck on a train and in a tube. To go to a job he hates. He regularly spends 6 hours a day travelling. Poor (well rich!) bugger.

feelingdizzy · 17/01/2018 20:51

3 minute drive,or 15 mins walk.

maddening · 17/01/2018 21:04

Home to drop ds off by car 8 mins, school on to work 11 mins

Home (leaving work about 7pm) 10 mins

FitbitAddict · 17/01/2018 21:08

15 mins walk to station, 25 mins on train, up to 20 mins hanging around at station but only a few on a good day, 10 mins by next train, 10 minute walk. At the best, 1 hour 10 mins door to door.

If I'm on a course at the usual venue, I walk 45 minutes each way from the nearest station on my first train route. If I'm going to be sitting down all day, I relish the opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise, even when it means getting up earlier to have time to walk instead of getting the bus from that station to the venue.

yogaginrepeat · 17/01/2018 21:09

About one hour 15 mins by car each way (though home can be slightly quicker in just under an hour). Both of us as we work in same area. Sometimes take train instead - 10
min drive to station, 40 mins on train then 10 min walk.

BossyBitch · 17/01/2018 21:15

15mins walk - I'm telling myself it's time made up for my last job in London, which was more 2hrs (within the city).

AmberTopaz · 17/01/2018 21:19

Me - 35-50 mins drive depending on the traffic (occasionally longer)
DH - 15 min drive to station, 30 min train journey, 10 min walk - approx 1 hour in total

coffeeagogo · 17/01/2018 21:32

80 mins via bus and tube when everything is going well - when the wheels fall off the tube can be as much as 2.5hrs (like Tuesday evening....)

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 17/01/2018 21:37

35-ish minute drive.

I've just taken a new job which will be 45 minutes, more if there's an incident.

When I was looking for a job I told recruiters I'm happy to drive up to an hour. Public transport was an absolute no-no. I quite like a drive at the end of the day to wind down and sit in silence before I get home, but other people make public transport too unpleasant.

TroysMammy · 17/01/2018 21:42

10 minutes each way by car. It used to take me 7 minutes each way except the bloody council put speed bumps on the road to my home and I have to drive over 7 of the fuckers each time. There is no alternative route as on each road from the roundabout there are the same number of speed bumps. I'm trapped.

Grilledaubergines · 17/01/2018 21:43

10 minutes in the car.

wooster16 · 17/01/2018 21:52

25 minute walk
