I was just wondering how long you and/or your DP/DH/DW spend each day commuting to and from work if you don't work from home.

Also, how do you travel to get there?

I work from home most of the time, but if I go into work it's 25 mins walk to the station, 45 mins on the train and another 20 mins walk at the other end.

I don't drive to the station because it's too expensive and not enough spaces anyway and it's better to walk. I sometimes cycle.

A 40 min walk sounds fine - and I'd definitely consider cycling in good weather.

londonrach · 17/01/2018 07:50

Before dd over 1 hour by train getting there at 8.30. Involves two or three trains

ProfYaffle · 17/01/2018 07:50

Me; 45 mins if I get the train, 60 - 90 minutes drive/park and ride

dh: 45 mins on train.

LearnFromThePast · 17/01/2018 07:51

15 mins walk and then a 30 minute train. Reverse on the way home

londonrach · 17/01/2018 07:51

Now i have a 5 min drive or if its good light a 15 walk across a racecourse

Eolian · 17/01/2018 07:51

Dh: 5 minutes by car
Me: Varies (I work at 5 different schools. Nearest is less than 2 mins on foot, furthest is 30 muns by car.)

falang · 17/01/2018 07:52

A journey that should take 10 mins by car takes between 40-45 mins in rush hour each way.

ZivaDiva · 17/01/2018 07:53

Me- 45-1 hour by car depending on time of day/traffic
DH- 25 min walk, 45 min train, 15 min tube/30 min walk depending on need to be in early. If not in a rush he walks.

EggsonHeads · 17/01/2018 07:54

It depends on where we are going. For me to London is 1hour 30 mins for the full journey including car, train, tube and walk. My husband it may be 15 mins to local office, an hour and a quarter to London office or driving/flying all over the place to meet with clients.

Flisspaps · 17/01/2018 07:54

7 minutes for me by car

Ragwort · 17/01/2018 07:56

Me - 10 minutes by car (including parking and very short walk), 25 minutes if I walk the whole way; which I should do more often if I wasn't shopping, running errands etc after work.

DH - self employed so completely varies - today will be a 7 hour drive home through snow Sad.

tried20names · 17/01/2018 07:58

DH and I both have 1.5 hr commute each way - 60 mins on train and 15 min walk either side

OccasionalNachos · 17/01/2018 08:00

45 minutes bus or 25 minutes bike. Or 15 mins walk to station & 10 mins on train. DH is a 5 minute drive Envy

fia101 · 17/01/2018 08:00

1hr 45 each way - drive train walk = have better ways to spend that time

passthepotatoes · 17/01/2018 08:01

Thank you everyone for your input, appreciate you taking the trouble to reply.

I do currently walk 20 mins so it's doubling it. I do enjoy it and as someone say it's a head clearing sometimes.

Might invest in a bike and do a bit of both.

1.5 hours door to door each way. Car, train, tube.

Unless there is a delay. Like there is at the moment......

Hortonlovesahoo · 17/01/2018 08:04

Mine depends on the site.
Without traffic: site A: 50 mins. Site B: 70mins driving

With traffic: site A: 1hr 30. Site B: 2hrs minimum.

It was rare that I had it without traffic.
This was before DD and one reason I chose not to go back

LongWeek · 17/01/2018 08:04

Me: about 3 minutes drive
DH: about 3/3.5 hour drive so he lives away at his work location Monday-Thursday.

EmmalinaC · 17/01/2018 08:04

According to the timetable it should be 58 minutes from door to door, from suburbs into London, approx 18 miles.

But thanks to fucking Southern Rail it can take anything up to two hours. It sends me into a rage most days.

Your commute sounds lovely, even the extended version 😀

Shoxfordian · 17/01/2018 08:06

About an hour 30 mins when in office
Bus 20-30 mins
Train into london 30 mins
Tube 10 mins
Bus 10 mins

0 mins today as working from home

Allergictoironing · 17/01/2018 08:09

In years gone by, 1h 45m - 2h each way by car, train & tube.

Now 5-7 mins by car Grin.

misshannah · 17/01/2018 08:10

DP: 15 minute walk/ 5 minute drive on lazy days

Me: 26.5miles each way = 35minutes at 7am and 35-40 minutes at 5.30pm

PiffleandWiffle · 17/01/2018 08:13

90 minutes each way on motorcycle.

0 mins when WFH

SallyOMalley · 17/01/2018 08:16

Me: 15 mins cycle or 40 mins walk (depending on weather!)
Dh: 15 mins cycle followed by 1hour train and 5 mins walk

INeedToEat · 17/01/2018 08:18

30 second walk
5 minutes on a bus
10 minutes on a train
2 minutes walk the other end

With train waiting times about 20 minutes all in - which is approximately the same amount of time it took by car (lost my drivers licence 4 months ago due to illness - it sucks).
