I was just wondering how long you and/or your DP/DH/DW spend each day commuting to and from work if you don't work from home.

Also, how do you travel to get there?

Dp 5 mins by car. 7 mins if he gets a coffee on route.
Me 20 mins by car, plus 5 mins to drop ds at childcare.

notacooldad · 17/01/2018 14:18

I am 12 mins by car. I would prefer to cycle but I am an essential car user.
It takes DP approx 30 minutes if going straight to the office.

Felford · 17/01/2018 14:25

10 minute bike ride to the station followed by a 50 minutes on the train on the way in.

On the way home 25 minutes on the train followed by a 10 minute bike ride.

I take the slow train in the morning (unless running late!) as it's empty when it gets to my station so I get a seat and some time to myself to watch a show on netflix or read. I get on where the train starts on the way home so get a seat no problem anyway.

For DH it's either 20-25 minutes by car, or if he's visiting one of his construction sites it's 2-5 hours by plane :-)

ThePants999 · 17/01/2018 15:20

25-40 minutes by car.

FrenchJunebug · 17/01/2018 15:33

25 minutes by bike each way.

hattiehollow · 17/01/2018 15:44

Honeybooboo123 · 17/01/2018 15:54

45 minute drive then 10 minute walk. Dh 10 minute drive

TriJo · 17/01/2018 15:57

10-15 minute walk to nursery to drop off my DS, then 10 minute bus followed by 10 minute train.

BowiesJumper · 17/01/2018 15:59

1hr 15 mins each way on tube & bus (plus dropping off at nursery on the way)
Husband is a 30-40min drive each way.

AhJaysus · 17/01/2018 16:06

12 mins in the car each way.

nippey · 17/01/2018 16:07

Mine is about an hour, traffic dependant!

10 minutes by car to nursery
5 min walk to station
30 min Train Journey
10 min Tube journey
5 min walk to work

SunnyL · 17/01/2018 16:08

Me: 4 mins if I drove but generally it's 15 mins by bike or 30 mins walk across fields and through a nature reserve

DH: 25 mins unless it's rush hour and then it's up to 1 hr

MagicWillHappen · 17/01/2018 16:09

4 minute drive for me, 15 minute walk for dh.

We're moving soon though, somewhere that will be a 25 minute drive to work for both of us. It feels like a long commute to us and will take some getting used to. I hate the thought of spending 45-50 minutes a day driving...some of the commutes on here make me shudder, going an hour or two each way - how do you get time to do anything other than work?!

BestIsWest · 17/01/2018 16:10

Until recently 2 hours each way (car/train/walk).
Now 15 minutes by car.

I really miss that hour to myself on the train in the morning with coffee and a book.

Don’t miss the journey home though.

Bonesinthechocolate · 17/01/2018 16:11

me: 20 min drive to station, then 1 hour on the train, then 10 minutes on the tram, then 2 min walk to the office.

Home again is 2 min walk to the station from the office then 55 min train home.

DH: 20 minute walk to work from door to door.

HicDraconis · 17/01/2018 16:26

I used to have a 2h each way commute. Left home at 0545 to get to work for 0745, left work at 1830 to be home for around 2030. Barely saw my children or DH, it was miserable.

I now have a 10 minute drive or 15min cycle (just over 4km each way) - would never go back.

kalosrosea · 17/01/2018 16:29

40 minute walk to drop off daughter and get back to bus stop then 1hr ten to get to uni then do it all again on the way back

Chipshopninja · 17/01/2018 16:41

25 minutes by car

Alicetherabbit · 17/01/2018 16:50

Car for fifteen minutes, train for an hour then 10 minute walk. At least the train gives me time to catch up on mumsnet Smile

NotAPuffin · 17/01/2018 16:53

We used to do 2-3 hours by car each way, depending on the traffic. We have moved house and now it's 3 minutes by car Grin

SillyLittleBiscuit · 17/01/2018 16:53

7 min walk to tube, 22 mins on tube and a 30 second walk the other end.

fairiedemon · 17/01/2018 16:58

2 hours each way. 40 min walk to train station, 40 mins on tha train, 30 mins in the tube and 10 mins to the office.

safariboot · 17/01/2018 16:58

5 minute walk to head office, or 20-30 minute drive (5 miles) to the other branch.

A 40 minute walk sounds fine if you work predictable hours. But if you're in a job where you can be called in at short notice, I think you'd get your boss asking why you didn't drive or cycle.

LittleFeileFooFoo · 17/01/2018 17:12

30 minor drive each way, unless doing the child drop off our there is traffic.
