I was just wondering how long you and/or your DP/DH/DW spend each day commuting to and from work if you don't work from home.

Also, how do you travel to get there?

Me: 12 minute drive each way
DH: 7 minute drive each way (or 20 minute cycle)

For me having a short commute is a major priority when choosing where to live / work

juddyrockingcloggs · 17/01/2018 08:21

Me - 5 minutes drive
DH - who works for the same company but is on site a lot could be driving for up to 5 hours to get to site.

coffeeforone · 17/01/2018 08:21

Mine is about 90 mins in total - 20 min walk, then 45-50 min train, 20 min bus.

DH drives 20 mins

1 hour there

Train and bus

1.5 hours home

2 buses, walk to pick DS up from the childminder and then walk home

I don’t enjoy it Confused

RottenTomatoes959 · 17/01/2018 08:24

20 minute train and then ten minute by the Luas

Foodisforfuel · 17/01/2018 08:25

I would love to walk to work! Even a 40 min walk.

I have an hour commute - ten mins walk either side of a 40 min train journey. The worst bit is getting a train because they’re unreliable (southern bloody trains!). I get stressed as you never know what will go wrong.

TheWhisperingSky · 17/01/2018 08:51

1hr4 mins there, 1hr 12 mins back. Bus train bus. Once a week office, work from home rest of week. Did a 2 hr each way train, train bus and swore I'd never commute so far away again. 1hr is my limit!

meandmytinfoilhat · 17/01/2018 08:59

15 minutes by car.

Tiddlywinks63 · 17/01/2018 09:09

Was anything up to 2.5hrs each way by car, no public transport option sadly.
Thank goodness I no longer work!

PhyllisWig · 17/01/2018 09:10

2 days a week it's an hour drive then 10 minutes train.

The other 2 days it's anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour plus there and 25 minutes back (morning traffic is awful, it's only 15 miles)

1 day I wfh

thisismadness77 · 17/01/2018 09:12

2 hours each way, drive, train, tube.
DH is 20 min drive.

Gaelach · 17/01/2018 09:16

YANBU. 15 minute drive each way.

Mrsknackered · 17/01/2018 09:19

DP an hour by car, more if there is traffic. I walk, 45 minutes. But I'm only in 2 days a week

MelanieSmooter · 17/01/2018 09:31

I’m incredibly lucky that I work in a school in the village I live in. It takes 5 minutes in the car, but unfortunately I’m unable to walk due to health issues as it would take me upwards of 45 minutes (school run to do too). I’d also then not be able to work for a week because of the pain. 🙄

DH works 30 mins drive away, but it’s less than 10 miles.

LongtimeLurkerNowPokemonHunter · 17/01/2018 09:40

Possibly outing

10 min walk, 25 min train, 20 min boat, 20 min walk. 1h15 total
Might get a car this end bring it down a bit eventually

GameOldBirdz · 17/01/2018 09:41

DH: Heading southbound: 15-minute walk to train station, 1 hour train, 15 minute walk to work

Me: Heading northbound: 15 minute walk to train station, 45 minute train, 15 minute walk to work.

elQuintoConyo · 17/01/2018 09:43

25 minutes bus door-to-door even though it isn't far away. 10 minutes by car and a beautiful route, but impossible to walk as there aren't any pavements for the first half of it Confused other half works from home.

midnightmisssuki · 17/01/2018 09:45

38 mins on a good day - walk 8 minutes-20 mins train-10 mins walk.

Longer if trains are delayed cancelled.

Sunshines80 · 17/01/2018 09:57

3 hours each way by train

BiddyPop · 17/01/2018 10:31

10 minutes drive to train station.

Could have up to 15 minutes wait for train if I time it wrong.
Train journey roughly 25 minutes.
10 minute walk to office.

En route home, the walk to station is cut to roughly 7 minutes (I am always late leaving work!).
Less waiting unless I have totally messed up.
Same train time, but car is easier getting home as left turns rather than right turns across traffic, although 1 road has delays not present in the mornings.

So overall, roughly 1 hour each way.

DH either leaves home at 4.30am to drive to airport and fly to the UK on a flight between 6 and 7 (depends on destination), getting to office for 10ish mostly; or else he's working in the office locally here, which is a 15 minute walk or 10 minute drive (walking involves shortcuts through estates with no through driving roads).

snash12 · 17/01/2018 10:36

About an hour drive each way if i'm in the office

knowwhereyourheadis · 17/01/2018 10:36

10 min drive.

If I wanted to use pubic transport it would involve walk-train-bus-walk and take 1hr 45 minutes.

EastDulwichWife · 17/01/2018 10:47

3 hours a day, sometimes longer. 6 trains and 2 buses in total. I love it. Not.

bigsighall · 17/01/2018 10:54

Jealous of some of these commutes!
Mine 1 hour either way which I thought was a quick commute until I read this thread!!

OH 2 hours either way by train (which I know is miserable coz I did it for years too)
