Saw the matinee this afternoon and honestly think it was the si god greatest cultural experience of my entire life and now all I want to do is talk about it forever Grin

AlexanderHamilton, I didn't notice the 'bullet' when we saw the show but now you've said it, I know exactly which cast member it was so I must have subconsciously taken it in. The more I think about Lin Manuel Miranda, the more I realise that he is an absolute blimming genius.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 17/01/2018 11:02

Yes yes yes - I saw it in December and it was amazing. LMM was there and got a huge ovation. Cheering after all the songs but super-quiet when the cast were singing.

King George and Jefferson absolutely top performances for comedy but other moments were still heart-breaking with Hurricane, Burn and Blow It All Away.

Loved Burr - seeing it performed brought out his dilemma and then the whole staging made the few bits that I hadn't picked up on the soundtrack make sense.

It would be really hard to pick a favourite bit but Yorktown was gobsmackingly awesome.

wtffgs · 17/01/2018 11:06

Posted too soon. I am not paying stupid money to watch this. Someone will eventually make a movie or record it for youtube. Also, I am not American and care nothing about their founding fathers

What a bizarre attitude Confused Are you only interested in British history? Fair enough, you don't want to go. Musicals aren't for everyone.

I was given tickets as a birthday present and can't wait.

Pom I loved Wicked - what an awesome weekend!! Grin

Blow Us All Away

HRTpatch · 17/01/2018 11:16

I saw In the Heights 11 times.
Off to NY for a week this year so hope to see some good musicals which havenr transferred here yet.
Dd is off to Hamilton in a couple of weeks.

tkband3 · 17/01/2018 11:19

My three DDs have been obsessed with Hamilton for ages, but I'd not managed to get tickets...I liked the Hamilton Facebook page and just before Christmas, saw a 30 minute old post saying that they'd just released more tickets for July! Got straight on the website - didn't even try to get cheap seats, and got tickets straight away.

Gave them to the DDs on Christmas Day - well printed off credit card sized things of the main image and the date we're going...two of them cried they were so excited Grin. Not going till July, but we're all very excited.

(On a side note, I went to see The Girl from the North Country last night - it was absolutely amazing, fantastic music (and I'm not a Bob Dylan fan/aficionado)...highly recommend it.)

peachgreen · 17/01/2018 11:19

@HRTpatch Ooh what are you seeing? I want to see Waitress and Come From Away. V jealous that you saw In The Heights.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 17/01/2018 11:20

Burr was absolutely INCREDIBLE.

AlexanderHamilton · 17/01/2018 11:21

I'd love to see Come From Away.

choirmumoftwo · 17/01/2018 11:21

Taking DD on Saturday for her Christmas present, she's beyond excited having gorged on the soundtrack for months! Hiphop and R&B are not my usual taste but I adore live theatre and am happy to go with it.

RockNRollNerd · 17/01/2018 12:28

I had a discussion with DH about the subject matter when I downloaded the soundtrack yonks ago and said I would be registering for tickets - made the same comment about Les Mis and how a musical about the wife of a 1950s South American dictator doesn’t sound that compelling either...

We’re all off to see it in May and I’m very much looking forward to it. DS is coming (he’s 12). I’m fine with the language and content whereas he’s only allowed to listen to Hello and All American Prophet from Book of Mormon Grin

LyraPotter · 17/01/2018 13:41

That article about the Bullet was amazing! I didn't consciously notice at the time but it makes so much sense now.

YANBU. We saw it at new year and I haven’t had a single song in my head from anything apart from Hamilton yet. I don’t know how long it will be.

HRTpatch · 17/01/2018 13:44

peach
Yes Waitress and Dear Evan Hansen on the list.

Bluebell878275 · 17/01/2018 14:07

My 14yr SD would LOVE to see this - I don't know how anyone is able to afford the tickets though!!! They were hundreds last time I checked!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 17/01/2018 15:34

The only available tickets atm are 200 quid because that’s what’s left over when the reasonable ones are taken bluebell, but when a new release comes out there will be cheaper stuff to be had. I got tickets for 37.50 in the last release.

Failing that you can always keep checking for returns - as time goes on there’ll be some because if people book six months in advance then sometimes they’ll have to cancel - and playing the lottery.

SilverySurfer · 17/01/2018 16:31

I see it's described as a sung and rapped-through musical so think I will give it a miss.

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 16:36

I haven't heard of it apart from on here but I can't say it appeals at all

Colabottle10 · 17/01/2018 16:46

Have loved it since before Broadway. Beyond excited to see last Thursdays matinee.

Honestly, it is a work of art. After the first 3 songs you look around and everyone’s face is basically saying ‘we are seeing something incredible).

Take tissues. The second act is a blubfest.

Long story short an American lady I met in the queue gave me a Ham ($10 bill) and I went to stage door and got the cast to sign it. I’m constantly checking for tickets to go back.

I was in stalls, J32. Excellent view. Someone I was sat next to said she’d got tickets at the top right at he back and the view was great. A fraction of the cost.

Download the Hamilton app and enter the daily lottery for a £10 ticket.

Colabottle10 · 17/01/2018 16:53

Those that say the music style doesn’t appeal, don’t let that put you off. The shining light of this musical is the ensemble. The choreography is excellent.

Get on YouTube and watch a couple of scenes and songs.

Fightthebear · 17/01/2018 16:58

It’s also really funny. Great bit of theatre.

LyraPotter · 17/01/2018 17:02

While I totally appreciate that it won't be for everyone I can say that I have never been a rap or hip hop fan, but I found the music just astonishing - it goes far beyond the genre!

AlexanderHamilton · 17/01/2018 18:29

I'd listened to my kids playing the soundtrack a few times but it was only when I watched a bootleg online that I really appreciated it.

JustDanceAddict · 17/01/2018 18:36

Hamilton and Mormon are both great shows. Very different from each other obviously. Don’t see Mormon if easily offended though!!
