The Broadway cast addressed Pence when he went to see it (during the curtain calls) & it caused huge controversy with Trump teeeting how awful it was & theatre should be a safe place.

I'm very keen to see it and got to London or surrounding area shows at least once a month. I don't really like hip hop but I've also never seen a theatre production I didn't enjoy at least a bit.

I don't ever pay more than max £35 or so for a ticket though so I think I'll be waiting years to see this one!

It's a bit of a vicious circle with hype and prices and popularity, I think - same with Cursed Child (also haven't seen due to price and the effort involved in finding tickets). Is it so difficult and expensive to see because it's better than everything else or just because everyone's hyped about it??

It's hard to imagine it being better than, say, Les Mis, Blood Brothers or West Side Story (or even, on the other side of the MT genre, We Will Rock You and Footloose). I've seen all those at least twice for around £15 - £40 and the quality was outstanding. So I wouldn't consider silly money for Hamilton. It will have to come down to the budgets of the average theatre going plebs like me eventually! Grin

@Lizzie nothing like that! It's not at all offensive. There were kids in the audience when we went.

What's the cheapest way to get tickets?
Although I appreciate they won't be that cheap...

I agree that I've not been to anything live that I've not enjoyed in some way. I'd jump at a ticket for We Will Rock You - my era totally.

I'm pencilling in Hamilton for 2022!

Thanks Lyra, Im going to look into buying tickets.

The only way to get tickets is through ticketmaster or the lottery. When they release new tickets they'll be available from £35

LizzieSiddal it’s rated parental advisory for explicit content: a few swear words, lyrics about violence, revelations of adultery and some innuendo.

DH bought me tickets for Christmas - and we saw the (very small and primitive) Alexander Hamilton museum when we visited St. Kitts and Nevis over the holiday. Can't wait!

DS bought us tickets for Book of Mormon, so I was disappointed to see your comments Lizzie - although DS has seen it and thought it was a great show. It's good for us to see different productions though - I find there's normally something I like about a show, even if it's just the end! Grin

JeNeSuis if you buy tickets on the day next time they are released (next block is for July 2018 onwards) then they really are pretty cheap, I managed to get multiple tickets for about £35. Next price tier up is about £52.
It’s only £200 at the moment because tickets have been on sale for over a year and so these are the only ones left that no-one wants to pay for!

I absolutely love Book of Mormon. Nobody is laughing at women being circumcised in that show. Or at AIDs. Nobody in the show is saying that these things are normal.

Gladiola That all sounds fine. I just hated the whole “will we genitally mutilate all the women in the village” cliff hanger, in “The Book Of Morman”.

For Hamilton we paid about £70 a ticket for row J tickets in the centre of the stalls, so I can’t imagine how some people are paying £200 a pop.

I didn’t think they were looking.

As I said I know I must be odd, as everyone else loves it. I just dont want to hear about it on a “comedy” night out.

We paid £200 because on the day it went on sale the choose your own seat wasn't working & kept throwing me out of Ticketmaster so I had to use the best available function. Dh has vertigo & although there were stalls seats at lower prices I couldn't risk being allocated seats high up.

thatstoast · 17/01/2018 09:57

We paid £90 for seats in the stalls. I didn't think that was excessive as I usually pay £50-60 for similar seats in the Wales Millennium Centre for other musicals. This is new, they've renovated the theatre and obviously its in London not in Cardiff.

My main issue is the Train to London costs £70 and probably not going to be as entertaining!

I'm basically spending all my money on musicals this year.

Lala land

I loved Lala Land! Though it bears a striking resemblence to:

Les Demoiselles de Rochefort

Sorry no comparison on quality Makeourfuture. You need to get your eye in. I recommend a lot of Fred and Ginger

Next you'll tell me you rate John McDonnell as an economic sage..

We paid £57 per ticket. ( or £59 can't remember off hand) cheapest tickets in US are £200 ish. A friend in London has gone 7 times and my US pen friend is coming over twice to see it. If I lived closer I would want to go multiple times. My then 14 yr old DD got me in to it as they studied it at her theatre school. Don't really think that the bad language is too much of an issue in the context of the story.

If it's any consolation, I really loved Book of Mormon. It deliberately pushes the boundaries of taste and acceptability and there was one moment in particular that I found difficult. However, it's not just gratuitous, it's all there to make a point.

It's incredibly funny, the music is so smart and the ending is actually very uplifting and celebrates genuine decency.

My sister and her DH went to see it at the weekend and loved it.

I might get tickets some time but will wait for a little while.
