Saw the matinee this afternoon and honestly think it was the si god greatest cultural experience of my entire life and now all I want to do is talk about it forever Grin

DD and I have seats right near the front on Thursday Grin
She is beyond excited!

thatstoast · 16/01/2018 23:12

Going in March. So excited!

LyraPotter · 16/01/2018 23:12

You will LOVE IT! I had unbelievably high expectations and it exceeded them. Have the most amazing time and enjoy every minute!

YANBU - saw it a week ago and it was incredible. Just wish I could go again! Goosebumps all the way through

steff13 · 17/01/2018 03:13

I'm so jealous! It's not coming to Ohio until next spring. I'm thinking of taking my kids to see it in Chicago. We know all the songs by heart.

steff13 · 17/01/2018 03:15

In Yorktown when they say, "We won! We won! We won!" Tears. Every time.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 17/01/2018 04:00

I have deliberately not listened to the soundtrack or researched anything about it, so I can see it "fresh" so to speak. I was resigned to taking DD (the tickets were her birthday and Xmas presents for 2016 and 17) and was of the mind that I would be bored/hate it because of the "hip hop RnB Jazz" labels, but I have seen nothing but rave reviews, and everyone in the world seems to think it's fab so I have high hopes that I will be blown away Grin
DD is just past herself - it's been over a year since I bought the tickets and she can't believe it is actually TIME TO GO Grin
We're going to see Wicked on Friday too, to make a proper trip of our time in London, and meeting a dear friend for lunch so all in all it should be a fab couple of days.
I have promised DD that we will wait by the stage door afterwards for autographs (do people still do that? and do the performers co-operate?) and that she can have "merch" and a programme, and she is planning on writing it all up for her GCSE drama coursework.
I honestly have never seen her so enthusiastic about anything since she was small Grin it's like my sullen, eye-rolling teen has been replaced with an Angel! If only it would last afterwards Grin Grin

LyraPotter · 17/01/2018 06:44

@Pombear that's so lovely! It's amazing how much it has inspired young people, it's amazing to see. It sounds like you have a wonderful weekend planned!

When we left there were definitely people waiting at the stage door for autographs. We didn't hang around so I don't know if the cast were cooperative but it looked like it was set up for it so I expect they were.

I wasn't particularly a fan of hip hop etc myself but was still absolutely entranced by the music, hopefully it will be the same for you!

Haven't a clue what or who Hamilton is.

A movie? A band? A new religion?

user1471517900 · 17/01/2018 06:48

speak out - they're a football team in the SPL.

LyraPotter · 17/01/2018 06:49

It's a musical Smile about Alexander Hamilton, the American founding father. The music is largely RnB / hip hop inspired. It sounds mental but was the best piece of theatre I've ever seen.

OP posts:
pollyhampton · 17/01/2018 06:50

I would love to see LMM as Hamilton, he is such an amazing performer!

Speakout - Its a musical about Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of America. Sounds dull but is amazing, Google it!

speakout · 17/01/2018 06:52

Football team? Political leader? Hip Hop?

I'm none the wiser.

JassyRadlett · 17/01/2018 06:55

I’m going on Monday. Absolutely cannot wait.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 17/01/2018 06:58

Not going until March. I must admit I’m not hugely enthusiastic (I’m very fussy about musicals) but DD is ecstatic and at least the seats were reasonably affordable.

LyraPotter · 17/01/2018 06:58

@speakout the football bit was a joke because Hamilton is also a town in Scotland with a football team Grin

But other than that yes - it's a hip hop musical about Alexander Hamilton, who was the first ever Secretary of the Treasury in America. He had an incredible and controversial life and the musical is about that.

We're going In February (in New York!) can't wait!
Surprised our 2 teenage DDs with the tickets for Christmas and haven't seen them so excited since telling them we were going to Disney 10 years ago!!

speakout · 17/01/2018 07:01

LyraPotter yes I know where Hamilton is- I live in Scotland.

Chimchar · 17/01/2018 07:04

My dd would sell her soul to go, but we just can't seem to get tickets (unless we pay £200 each for them). Plus it's a long way for us so would have to miss school and work to travel on some days, which makes it more difficult.

We've entered the lottery ticket draw every day, but had no luck. She is having such an awful, dreadful time at the moment, I would love to take her.

She's learned all the songs, and bangs on about it CONSTANTLY!

Glad it's living up to its hype. Smile

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 17/01/2018 07:04

I HAVE TICKETS FOR TUESDAY

I can't believe it's finally come around. I've got hugely pregnant since we bought them as well Grin

Trashboat · 17/01/2018 07:05

I WANT TO GO AND SEE THIS SO BAD. Dd and I are always listening to the soundtrack. Hopefully it will tour as we cant afford to travel to London to watch it 😢

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2018 07:10

I’ve only heard about it due to the hype on here.
Sounds very very expensive just for theatre tickets and as it’s only in London at the moment I don’t think I will bother.
Glad you enjoyed it though OP

BigGreenOlives · 17/01/2018 07:11

I took DD after Christmas. I suggest you either listen to the soundtrack or read up (ideally both) before you go as there is so much historical information in the raps and you’ll miss out if you go in uninformed.

makeourfuture · 17/01/2018 07:11

Oceans rise, empires fall,
We have seen each other through it all.
And when push comes to shove,
I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love!
