Why are MEN being offered Cervical Cancer Screening...

What is going on in this country?

If you are registered as a female with your GP you are being offered screenings...even if you don't possess the organ.

Oh FFS!! Because the NHS has loads of money to piss up the wall on cervix screening for non existent cervixes (sp?) Angry

LadyDeadpool · 15/01/2018 00:44

It's automated for anyone registered female with the GP if a transman still has cervical/womb tissue they're still at risk so need screening. Simple.

HelenaDove · 15/01/2018 00:44

Eh?

LadyDeadpool · 15/01/2018 00:46

It's explained in the leaflet that they automatically invite anyone registered as female to have a smear test it also says if you don't have a cervix you don't need to make an appointment if you are a FTM transman and haven't had a full hysterectomy you still need to be screened.

There is absolutely nothing to be outraged about.

HelenaDove · 15/01/2018 00:46

YY Deadpool Agreed But i dont think thats what the OP meant.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 15/01/2018 00:46

No lady, these are men who identify as women being offered screening!

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 00:48

Women who 'identity'as men aren't getting invited to appointments.

That's pretty outrageous.

LineysRunt · 15/01/2018 00:50

Does that mean these people-born-male might miss out on male screening and health programmes, though? Isn't that incredibly unhelpful for them, if they only features on 'female' databases?

Yip

LineysRunt · 15/01/2018 00:53

Cancer is no respecter of gender feelz.

Born female? Get your cervix checked. Born male? Watch that prostate. NHS - these are sexually differentiated diseases.

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 00:54

it really does no one any good if it ignores biology and says we only look at what you say you are.

prostate cancer doesn't affect women.

cervical cancer doesn't affect men.

Because it would be more expensive to program the computer to weed out trans patients. (Probably impossible: not sure there is a "trans" box to tick on the NHS records.)

Highly unlikely that any men now living as women would take up the offer of screening as they know it will be a waste of time as no sample can be taken.

Next boring trans thread please!!!

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 00:57

Because it's a tick box computer program.

Chill out.

ReefAndRiz · 15/01/2018 00:57

Are trans men being screened?

VladmirsPoutine · 15/01/2018 00:58

Shark = jumped.

AlmondPearls · 15/01/2018 00:58

"Women who identify as men are not being routinely offered potentially life saving NHS screening for breast and cervical cancer, amid fears it might offend them it is claimed.

However men living as women are being invited for cervical smear tests even though they do not have a cervix."

What the fuck has happened to us.

mailTo · 15/01/2018 00:59

Clickbait. It's simply because you're registered as a woman.

FTM get the same automatic letters in NZ regarding prostate checks.

We really do need a trans sub-forum. Pleeeeeeeease.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:00

Oh because sending a fucking letter out costs so much money.

It's a tick box. Anyone registered as female gets the letter. No transgender women are going for a smear, no nurses are poking around their genitals. Trust me, they know their genitals. It's nothing, it's just how the NHS system works.

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 01:01

you won't have a trans box... you'll register as male or female...at least that's the assumption.

so its more feasible to waste resources and time making a screening appointment for someone with a non-existent organ?

How will this affect the statistics about women getting screenings etc.

MNHQ will not allow this in case it infringes upon the rights of tedious bores

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:01

I would argue the issue is that transgender men who have chosen to not undergo surgery, or are still on the waiting lists, are still at risk and may not be sent the reminder letter.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:03

Yeah the terfs have already taken over the feminism subforum and are intrenched into AIBU, they don't need another one, you're so right

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 01:03

and time making a screening appointment for someone with a non-existent organ?

Well unless I'm missing something I doubt anyone without a cervix will attend..

How will this affect the statistics about women getting screenings etc.

A. It won't, it's literally an automated letter generator.
B. The NHS have been sending these letters out to women who have had their wombs removed for decades too.

I don't get the outrage.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:04

@beansonapost They are not making appointments. They are sending a reminder letter.

I am a cisgender woman. Every few years I get a smear test reminder letter. Then I call the surgery to make my appointment.

A transgender women will not make an appointment. There is literally no issue here. No wasted appointments.

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 01:05

As I said I don't think it does either group any good if this is to be the approach.

@condepetie I agree and surely there will be more people slipping through the gaps.

what about the gender fluid? what will their GP registration tick box be?
