Why are MEN being offered Cervical Cancer Screening...

What is going on in this country?

If you are registered as a female with your GP you are being offered screenings...even if you don't possess the organ.

Also I am not transexclutionary at all. I just care about the rights of female people and do think that female people are oppressed due to their biology, not due to a feeling in their head.

I am also actually 'a-gender' so classed as 'transgender' myself.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:34

There are plenty of transwomen who prefer to describe themselves as transsexual.

Most transsexual people distance themselves from the umbrella term of 'transgender'.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:36

@Vicxy I'm actually quite interested as to where your information is coming from. I'm a cisgender lesbian who dresses mostly nonfeminine, but enjoys wearing a dress and makeup now and then. Where do I fit in? Am I transgender, because I'm nonfeminine?

I don't think that what you're saying is true. Many of my friends are trans women. They span the gamut from hyper-femme to butch as fuck. I also have many straight cis women friends who not remotely feminine.

I feel like you're trolling, because what you're saying is so ridiculous.

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 01:37

@derangedmermaid

They will be sending them out to anyone registered as female at their GP ...whether or not you have or had a cervix.

Perhaps you should spend more time READING the articles..before accusing me of being jealous. Why would I be jealous?!

How petty would I have to be to be jealous of someone having the opportunity to have cancer screenings... breast/cervical/prostate.

My questions are simple... if its based solely on what you mark on a piece of paper who/what/where/how will the gaps be filled?

and yes essentially they will be offering men cervical screenings...

Yes, you come under the transgender umbrella

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:38

I do apologise if I offended any transpeople - in my experience and my group of friends, people prefer transgender over transsexual. I'm sorry.

mailTo · 15/01/2018 01:39

"and yes essentially they will be offering men cervical screenings..."

Why do you care? Besides a fraction of a penny on ink and paper, there are no wasted resources.

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 01:39

@Beansonapost I said I don't get why you're pissed. Not jealous. Now who should be reading properly...

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:40

@Vicxy Oh I see, a comic from tumblr gets to tell me my identity.

I don't think anyone can tell another person how they should identify. I do not identify as trans. I identify as cis. That doesn't mean I don't wholeheartedly support transgender people.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:41

@Viczy also "cisgender" is right there bouncing off the umbrella. So. Your point?

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:41

Encompasses any individual who crosses over or challenges their societies traditional gender roles or expressions.

Or stonewalls own definition - ^In the broadest sense, transgender encompasses anyone whose identity or behaviour falls outside of stereotypical gender norms. That includes people who do not self identify astransgender, but who are perceived as such by others and thus are subject to the same prejudice, discrimination and physical violence as those who actually identify with any of these categories

Its all here.. www.stonewall.org.uk/sites/default/files/transgender_booklet_2004.pdf

I'm waiting for the first reported woman to have prostate cancer.....

Well fuck it! That's every woman who has held a screwdriver and any bloke who might like embroidery.

Oh, hang on.....

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:45

@Vicxy you've managed to turn this from the OP's question to a debate about "who is transgender". The booklet you linked is from 2004 and cites no sources more recent than 2002. Anyone who is cisgender does not fall under the umbrella, and that is for the individual to know.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:45

And thats why I use transsexual. I don't class myself as transgender, but I do come under the definition given I do not have a gender identity at all (I dont feel 'like a woman', I feel like me) which makes me technically 'a-gender' so if even I come under it, its too wide a term tbh.

Thats why many transsexual people use transsexual too.

I love how I am made out to be transexclutionary also when my primary concern about this story is that transmen will not get their notices about their health checkups due to this sillyness. Very odd.

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 01:46

I don't care really send as many letters as you wish.

But I think many people still believe the NHS is a sustainable model. but thats another thing entirely ... everything adds up...even the cost of ink and paper.

It would be more useful to send the letter to a mtF to have a prostate exam than it is to send a letter advising him to make an appointment for a cervical screening. simply because that person ticked a box stating they are female...and that is the only thing the system needs to see to generate that letter.

Yes, it was totally me who turned the convo to the ridiculous transgender term that encompasses the entire worls..

(we call them transgender people now, by the way)

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:47

entire world even

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:49

@Vicxy I did mention trans men earlier in the thread.

Some of your posts are about mine, and I already apologised for saying that people prefer transgender - in my circle, that's how it is, and I was not aware that others prefer transsexual. That's my bad.

Your posts about TERFs made me defensive, and I still disagree with those posts and the websites there.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:50

The booklet you linked is from 2004 and cites no sources more recent than 2002.

Stonewalls current terms

www.stonewall.org.uk/help-advice/glossary-terms

Trans – an umbrella term to describe people whose gender is not the same as, or does not sit comfortably with, the sex they were assigned at birth. Trans people may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including (but not limited to) Transgender, Transsexual, Gender-queer (GQ), Gender-fluid, Non-binary, Gender-variant, Crossdresser, Genderless, Agender, Nongender, Third gender, Two-spirit, Bi-gender, Trans man, Trans woman,Trans masculine, Trans feminine and Neutrois.

Pretty much exactly the same as that booklet. Look up transmasculine, gender queer, the lot of the terms. They cover all people. 'Cis' is a weird term as it assumes you 'identify' with the sex stereotypes imposed on you.

But...I will be accused of derailing again though I am answering someone elses post no doubt Grin

condepetie · 15/01/2018 01:51

Cis people do not get to speak for trans people. I am cisgender.

In my experience, people use transsexual as an outdated term, and sometimes as a slur.

In my experience, the trans people I have met and interacted with and am friends with, use transgender as their general term.

@Vicxy, I do apologise - I shouldn't have assumed.

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 01:52

I'm sure I had the "boys can be girls and girls can be boys, now stop arguing and eat your bloody weetabix" chat when the kids were small. Hmm

Anyway, I will make sure i tell my friend who attempted suicide several times and ended up in a secure unit before being told she could live as the gender she wanted, that she has to be a man again because the NHS needs to save its ink...

Im sure the cost of keeping her/him alive each time she/he tries to end himself is waaaaay cheaper... Hmm

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 01:52

Your posts about TERFs made me defensive, and I still disagree with those posts and the websites there.

Made you defensive? Terf is a slur, its used as a slur.

Transmen will lose out with this. Transwomen also if they are registered as female so will not get reminders for prostate checks and such. Its a very bad idea to have people listed as the opposite sex in a medical setting. God knows who made that decision but its stupid.

Gingernaut · 15/01/2018 01:53

Sorry for the Daily Fail link but I've found some men who do embroidery....

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5090297/City-trader-quits-finance-ethical-fashion-brand.html

I do science. And embroidery. I like practical clothes with pockets. I like trousers not skirts or dresses.

Am I a transman? I'm gender confused.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 01:53

So feminists are TERFs because they believe transwomen are men even though this entire thread is everyone agreeing that transwomen need different health screening to women on account of being men?
