What is going on in this country?

If you are registered as a female with your GP you are being offered screenings...even if you don't possess the organ.

I reject gender. I don't identify as a woman, or identify as female. I don't agree with gender norms; I don't believe that boys should like blue and maths, and girls should like pink and barbies. It's irreleveant to my life.

However, I AM a woman (no identifying here). Not a cis-woman. An adult human female. Full fucking stop.

cis as applied to women doesn't have roots in Latin. It's a term used in for molecular structures - using it to describe women is incredibly insulting and I would ask you to stop.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 02:22

Also, I know of at least two pubs full of men who refuse point blank to have prostate exam because of the gay connotations, so don't even start that shite.

You know 2 pubs full of men who are homophobic? Nice.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 02:23

@Marxy "Cisgender has its origin in the Latin-derived prefix cis-, meaning "on this side of", which means the opposite of trans-, meaning "across from" or "on the other side of". This usage can be seen in the cis–trans distinction in chemistry, the cis–trans or complementation test in genetics, in Ciscaucasia (from the Russian perspective), in the ancient Roman term Cisalpine Gaul (i.e., "Gaul on this side of the Alps"), and more recently, Cisjordan, as distinguished from Transjordan."

Just from wikipedia, but it's very easy to research. Never heard of the Cisalpine Gaul?

Beansonapost · 15/01/2018 02:24

@Maryz thank you.

Where does it stop?

When does this become dangerous?

Who will be missing out on life saving treatment because the form they filled in states one thing, when biologically they are something else?

And we cannot deny some illness are gender specific...

@derangedmermaid get a life. That's not my business. Whatever method of feeding you chose is your business. Breast/bottle. But facts are a man can't breastfeed.

OP posts:
stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 02:24

Individual women being unable to breastfeed doesn't alter the fact that only women, as a sex, can breastfeed.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 02:24

it's true. It's been reported that smear tests are down in the last few years - and me, personally, I put it off for nearly 4 years due to anxiety. (came back all clear, but afterwards I was even more anxious due to the impending results - what if it's bad news?!) It's very, very common. No one likes it, so it's easy to say... next year!

Wow, I don't know why but this kind of..upsets me?! I know other peoples health is not really anything to do with me but so many people will be getting ill when it could have been stopped sooner.

Though I have been guilty of putting mine off for a few months just because, well because its not a pleasant thought.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/01/2018 02:24

Condepedie
Are you saying that people, who don’t want transwomen with fully functioning penises coming into their safe spaces - some of whom MRA’s have openly admitted are rapists - are themselves TERFs?

Maryz · 15/01/2018 02:25

I support transwomen too. But not at the expense of women. And not at the expense of their own health.

Filling in the incorrect biological sex on a medical form is a stupid thing to do, and should not be allowed - many diseases - heart attacks being a well-known example, but there are many - present differently in men and women. "Living as a woman" (have we had an explanation of what that means yet?) doesn't make a male suddenly present with female symptoms. To suggest that is ridiculous and dangerous.

Gacapa · 15/01/2018 02:25

@condepetie Out of interest, what's the solution for a person with such severe anorexia that they try to kill themselves, because they believe they are trapped in a fat body?

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 02:25

Not homophobic. Not prejudiced at all
Just straight and of the opinion that straight men don't have fingers up arses. Ever. In the one pub it branched to testicular checks as well.

Old men die of stubbornness. Theres a reason that's literally the tag line for prostate cancer...

PerspicaciaTick · 15/01/2018 02:27

When you tell me I am cisgender, you are telling me that I conform to, maybe even embrace, all the fucked up stereotypes and social conventions which make up my gender. I don't and I have no idea why you think I should just because I am not trans.

Maryz · 15/01/2018 02:27

condepetie, I'm not opposite to trans (which is also a made up usage of a Latin term).

There is a word to describe what I am. I'm a woman.

Stop mis-naming what I am. It's insulting. Not quite literal violence Hmm, but it's making me very angry.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 02:28

Strange that posters trip over themselves not to use the wrong terminology or pronouns for transgender people but think it is fine to label women 'cis' against their wishes.

Maryz · 15/01/2018 02:29

yy PerspicaciaTick.

Where's the definition of "living as a woman"?

This is really pissing me off. Putting on some makeup and taking female hormones isn't "living as a woman".

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 02:30

Also, completely got lost in the gender war from commenting the first thought that popped into my head which was adults know they have cervixes and prostates. If they don't get that checked because of a letter then that's their responsibility and not the fault of a trans community.

Where's all the self preservation in this?

condepetie · 15/01/2018 02:31

@Vicxy It is the thing like "it won't happen to me!" That's how I felt, and I'm very glad I overcame my anxiety to do it.

@Mummyoflittledragon What are you talking about? MRAs have admitted are rapists? What do MRAs have to do with transwomen? MRAs are a tiny, ridiculous, stupid little community on Reddit - if anything they're saying is about transwomen, it's trolling. And yes, I'd be fine in a changing room with a transwoman, but all the preop transwomen I know don't want to be in rooms with cis women, so would use a cubicle.

@Gacapa Hospital treatment until they're well. Are you saying a transgender woman can be treated in the hospital until they're no longer transgender?

@derangedmermaid "straight men don't have fingers up arses"
hahaha have you ever actually met a man?

condepetie · 15/01/2018 02:32

Ooooh this thread was so good for so long. I'm going to bed. PM me with any other questions about trans women being women, that's fine.

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 02:34

@condepetie oh don't, my kids dad loved a finger or two.

Not in public though. Two weeks after my horrific almost life ending birth of a ten pound son I had to frog March him to the doctor about a lump on his nuts. She was beautiful and anyone should have been grateful for her cupping their balls. He came out and said it was the worst experience of his life...

This is why we live longer. Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 15/01/2018 02:34

To be honest, I really don't care if someone makes the informed decision to opt out of cancer screening and no longer wishes to receive letters about it. I can understand that it may be distressing to receive regular reminders that your body still, after everything you've been through, doesn't match the body you feel you should have. I can even understand why you might choose to accept the risk to your long term health if that distress is a greater risk to your immediate well-being.

Just so long as nobody is accidentally slipping through the gaps and missing out on screening that they do need and would participate in if reminded to do so.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 02:34

Clearly not everyone will get checks without reminders otherwise they wouldn't need the policy in the first place. I've also seen some pretty dubious grasp of biology from some TRAs including that they now 'wee out of their vaginas just like women do', the penis is a female sex organ and the current teenage boy in the women's officer post claiming he can get pregnant so I wouldn't take anything for granted about an individual's ability to manage their health especially when there are so many cheerleaders surrounding them telling them they are literally women and biology is irrelevant.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 02:34

@Maryz "made up" yeah, okay, it was made up by all those... historians... and psychologists and scientists who obviously know far less than you do. Grow the fuck up.

derangedmermaid · 15/01/2018 02:36

@stitchglitched I had a colleague who didn't know there were separate holes for wee and sex. I had to draw a diagram.

condepetie · 15/01/2018 02:37

@stitchglitch Are you talking about Lily Madigan, the teenage woman in the woman's officer post? Either show your work or stop bullying a teenager, you're a grown-ass woman who should know better.

Once again, going to bed, stop dragging me back!

Booboobooboo84 · 15/01/2018 02:37

OP I think you have to trust in people’s ability to provide care for themselves which is something that the government nannies us over way to much. We all know how often we should have smears why should the government waste its money and resources reminding us. Likewise with prostrate checks, breast screening.

I happen to think it would be a good thing to amend the nhs database so that people don’t skip through the gap. Maybe at sign in people opt in for reminders. Which would give those women with out cervixes/cervices? The option to opt out of the reminder. But that would cost a lot of money which is better spent elsewhere.

I don’t like how you keep insisting on referring to m2f trans people as men. They identify as women and it won’t hurt you to refer to them as such. It’s easy to fall into the hyperbole of the trans are coming to take women’s rights away and the vast vast vast vast majority are not. So please don’t degrade those who aren’t just to sensationalise your point.

stitchglitched · 15/01/2018 02:38

Well there you go. Some adults don't understand biology, some may have other challenges that impact their ability to manage their health. That is why accurate invitations to screening are important.
