Dp and I have a love affair with Whitby. When dp proposed my engagement ring was whitby jet. I have earrings and necklaces to match. It means a lot to me.

Anyway, it’s our babysitters 18th soon, she’s lovely and we get on well. I want to get her a present But I’m rubbish at presents so Iv left it to dp. He’s bought her a whitby jet cross necklace. She’s quite gothic so I know she will love it.

But I’m so upset. I can’t pin point why but I feel really upset.

Having read the original post several times, and paying particular attention to the second paragraph, I'm surprised it took till the 3rd page before someone posted Goth/Whitby/black/cross.

FYI if she likes gothic stuff Regal Rose and Indigo Lune is good for pretty jewellery of that vein.

SevenShades · 13/01/2018 14:19

You are being silly op. Dp is from Whitby, Whitby jet is indeed lovely, I have some too, but so does every other woman who lives in Whitby and the surrounding area! If the babysitter is gothic then it was an excellent gift choice considering Whitby’s gothic connections. Your dp sounds extremely thoughtful imo

I love amber. Dp has been giving me amber jewellery for years, and when dd grew up she started borrowing some. I had to stop myself being irrationally jeLous when he bought her some of her own for her birthday......

SilverySurfer · 13/01/2018 16:46

I think YABU. If you were the only person who wore jet jewellery then you may be entitled to be upset, however, you're not. I have jet jewellery that's older than you - should I be pissed off you now have some? Of course not.

Jet is perfect for a goth and I think you need to get over it.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2018 17:07
Hmm
VladmirsPoutine · 13/01/2018 17:09

Silvery I think you might need to log off MN for a bit and cool down Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2018 17:12

Wine for Silvery.

another one who doesn't understand the actual issue!

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2018 17:24

I think if people don't get it by now they are never going to TBH.

BertrandRussell · 13/01/2018 17:25

Dp and I are not the only people to have ever listened to Ain't Nobody by Chaka Kahn- but we would both be a bit pissed off to see the other one dancing to it with anyone else.......

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2018 17:33

Excellent tune Bertrand.Isn't there an ad on the TV at the moment that has completely murdered it? Angry

BertrandRussell · 13/01/2018 17:37

If there is, Sparkling- I refuse to acknowledge the fact

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2018 17:39

Don't watch this

JacquesHammer · 13/01/2018 17:40

IT isn't quite the same as a specific song though. Whitby jet is only the raw material.

If the OP had special pieces of jewellery that her husband had bought copies of, then I can see how that would be uncomfortable.

VladmirsPoutine · 13/01/2018 17:42

I'm amazed we made all this way through the thread without someone suggesting that she may have turned his head! Grin

shakeyourcaboose · 14/01/2018 07:33

@sparklingbrook I have to mute my TV at the breathyness of that ad!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 14/01/2018 14:23

I get why you are upset, even if you aren’t that sure about it. But I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it because it isn’t needed. You say your husband doesn’t get it then maybe try to explain why to him? He seems thoughtful and you said yourself she will like it and isn’t that the point of gift giving? Giving something the person will enjoy.

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2018 14:24

YY it is all very breathy and ethereal isn't it shake? It's a package holiday FGS. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2018 14:43

I don't know anyone who likes the advert!!

Louiselouie0890 · 14/01/2018 16:42

I might be old fashioned but I think only partners (excluding parents kids etc.) Q give/recieve jewellery.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/01/2018 16:57

You're old fashioned Louiselouie. Loads of jewellery given amongst my friends and family.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/01/2018 17:00

I’d feel exactly the same OP Sad

Shame he’s not listening to you and trying to understand why you’re upset.
