Dp and I have a love affair with Whitby. When dp proposed my engagement ring was whitby jet. I have earrings and necklaces to match. It means a lot to me.

Anyway, it’s our babysitters 18th soon, she’s lovely and we get on well. I want to get her a present But I’m rubbish at presents so Iv left it to dp. He’s bought her a whitby jet cross necklace. She’s quite gothic so I know she will love it.

But I’m so upset. I can’t pin point why but I feel really upset.

Poor bugger, he's going to spend the rest of his life walking on eggshells.

bfgdreamtree · 13/01/2018 12:48

Thats a horrible thing to say, as well as unwarranted.

Why do people have to be so mean? Do you feel good now?

MadMags · 13/01/2018 12:52

What a ridiculous thing to say.

He’s going to be walking on eggshells for the rest of his life?

Do you really think that or did you think it was oh so hilarious? Not sure which is worse, tbh...

greenmagpie · 13/01/2018 12:52

deranged mermaid is this you?

Settle this argument please.
PinkyBlunder · 13/01/2018 12:52

Now who’s being OTT bluelady Hmm

You do know it’s normal to have irrational feelings and you should be able to express them to your partner in a mature adult relationship? It’s actually healthy to express your feelings and not hide them, no matter how stupid they may seem or feel.

I'm afraid I really think it.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/01/2018 12:58

Agree with Bluelady.op being hypertouchy about anything perceived to be theirs means the dp will potentially have to scrutinise every purchase to be sure not to cause loss of intimacy,or share a special thing that was for 2 between 3.

Triskaidekaphilia · 13/01/2018 12:58

I think emotionally it must feel like DH giving something significant to the two of you to someone else. Try to remember that it is a gift from both of you, something reflecting the couple that gave it to her, it's actually quite sweet. Maybe that will help?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 13/01/2018 12:59

I'm sorry I don't get why you are upset about it. I am sorry you are upset, but personally I don't get why.

I had an ex that just lumped 'women's presents' into one category, he would have probably done what your DH has done.

Not ‘anything’. Just Whitby jet.

MadMags · 13/01/2018 13:01

Again with the wild extrapolations!

OP writes about one incident and all of sudden her DH has to scrutinize every purchase ever!

Ah, this place. It’s fucking batshit. 😂😂

derangedmermaid · 13/01/2018 13:02

I had a brilliant Swanson meme but I can't post it Angry

diddl · 13/01/2018 13:02

I should just imagine that he though black jewelery would be appropriate.

Can see why it hurt though.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/01/2018 13:03

Posters repeatedly typing WHITBY. JET.for emphasis doesn’t make me suddenly change my mind
Well seeing you’ve repeatedly said WHITBY JET I retract my previous posts
Don’t think so

derangedmermaid · 13/01/2018 13:05

WHITBY JET THO...

Nanny0gg · 13/01/2018 13:06

Oh wonderful. This is not going to comfort the OP. What are you suggesting, exactly?

I am suggesting that he has gone for the easy option as he knows his wife thinks they're wonderful presents,he knows where to get them, they're black so they must be gothic and he hasn't thought it through that it's a very generous present for a babysitter.

I am not suggesting anything else.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/01/2018 13:06

Yes, did I mention it’s WHITBY .JET
Not Whitby scampi, jetty or cliffs
WHITBY. JET

derangedmermaid · 13/01/2018 13:07

My dog was called jet. Sad

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 13/01/2018 13:25

We had a cat called Jet. It's a shame as i think it would be nice name for a potential DS.

LyraPotter · 13/01/2018 13:28

I can see why you're upset but I doubt he meant any harm - he's probably just lacking in imagination and that's the best he could come up with. I would explain your feelings and then let it go.
