To feel my husbands family are a bit racist

I think racist is probably the wrong word I’m looking for.

I met dh when he’d already been living in England for almost a decade and now we are expecting our first child the attitude is very much that it’s time for him to come ‘home’ now Hmm They constantly slag England off, the traffic, the high price of houses. Whenever we are there they stop at houses and shout ‘how much would this set you back in England eh’ and we say £200,000 or whatever and they shout triumphantly how much cheaper it is there! Neither of us like visiting because it’s a faff either flying and hiring a car or expensive ferry trips and they won’t come to us. Plus it’s tense the whole time due to them complaining about England and the schools or trying to shove food on us.

What is worrying me though is I have no support at all and have struggled in this pregnancy. Dh has been making ‘well maybe we could think about’ noises. I would struggle to get work over there and so really my support would be his family, I’d rather not!

I don’t know why I’m posting but there was an argument last night and it’s just been annoying me today.

Monday - you've got the wrong poster -read back

pallisers · 11/01/2018 15:28

I think Monday is confusing mags with bobsharedalink who is the londonderry poster who seems to have inexplicably missed 800 years of Irish history.

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:32

@MondayTuesdayWednesday it’s Mags and she’s not the confused one. Have you read any of her posts?

MondayTuesdayWednesday · 11/01/2018 15:37

@madmags I'm so sorry! I was confused as you quoted the original poster.

To clarify, my posts were to @bobsharedalink

MadMags · 11/01/2018 15:39

No worries!

@bobsharedalink you brought your politics into it by using Londonderry, it’s pretty clear.

And my issue was in the origin of potato jokes. If you think it’s because Irish people love potatoes I’m afraid it’s you who is ignorant. The comment about bombings was off too.

But then, being NORTHERN Irish, you have every right to tell Irish people what they should be happy being called by the English don’t you.

And your stereotypes listed are also offensive. So I guess you’re just out to cause a fuss. Well done.

MadMags · 11/01/2018 15:45

You’re embarrassingly uneducated for one who professes to know the history of Ireland.

Go read a book, there’s a dear.

You’ve no business calling yourself Irish. Incidentally, you could’ve kept your British passport. Trust me when I say we would have been more than happy to let you sail off into the non-EU sunset with your overlords.

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:48

@MadMags Scotland wanted to stay too!

MadMags · 11/01/2018 15:50

We’ll take Scotland! Wink

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:52

I wish you could!!! Unfortunately we’re considered about as relevant as Ireland by Westminster, and they only got into bed with the sodding DUP because it suited them. Not one fuck given about NI until then.
Proposals about borders really showed up the ignorance though.

MadMags · 11/01/2018 15:56

I can’t describe the disgust I felt watching in unfold, so I can’t imagine how awful it is to live in Scotland or NI and to live with the consequences.

It’s interesting to see our Taoiseach suddenly interested in a united Ireland, I must say.

Either way, I think we’re in for a rocky ride unfortunately.

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:57

@MadMags I was horrified, utterly horrified. I cried, I’m actually afraid for what comes next.
I also think that within possibly my lifetime, or my childrens’ we’ll see a united Ireland and independent Scotland.

DullAndOld · 11/01/2018 15:57

" I can’t imagine how awful it is to live in Scotland or NI and to live with the consequences. "

what about us in England eh? Grin

MadMags · 11/01/2018 15:58

Nah, @Dull, we’re too busy blaming the English and Welsh for it! Grin

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:59

England voted to leave though, as did Wales (why doesn’t wales capitalise automatically??? It’s a country!)

Scotland and NI voted to leave and have no choice in it.
Remainers who want to move up here are more than welcome though Grin

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:59

@MadMags Grin

@bobsharedalink fairly sure that Mags was joking about taking Scotland. Also fairly sure that Mags is Irish.

And don’t fucking get all uppity about people disagreeing with the absolute shite things you say and then imply that my country is a haven for sectarianism! Incidentally most of the issues are caused by NI orangemen but that’s another thread.

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 16:04

Think you're entitled to it or think there was a clear cut wish to stay in the 55%?

Remind me again what the NO campaign’s biggest stick to beat the YES campaign with was? Oh aye, STAYING IN THE EU WAS ONLY POSSIBLE WITH A NO VOTE. How did that work out then eh?

MadMags · 11/01/2018 16:05

You’re the one that can’t read a username properly, but I’m the idiot. HmmGrin

I am aware that you can choose an Irish passport. I said you don’t deserve one, and you don’t.

Mercifully other posters on the thread seem to be able to grasp the concept of a joke so I won’t even acknowledge your utter shite about Scotland.

DullAndOld · 11/01/2018 16:05

My area of Wales was very pro European.
Still 'blame the Welsh' if it makes you feel better..:)

pallisers · 11/01/2018 16:05

I'll tell you what @bobsharedalink you are a side indictment of whatever education system produced you.

pallisers · 11/01/2018 16:05

and you still haven't explained how Britain occupying Ireland "isn't a fact"

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 16:05

@DullAndOld I think that Wales gets a rough deal too if it’s any consolation. Smile
