Sitting on an aircraft. Not taken off. The woman behind me keeps putting her foot up on my arm rest and knocking my elbow.

I've just elbowed her off.
In for a long flight.

I would have been tempted to accidently drop a hot drink over her foot. Some people are disgusting.

Can't say I recall ever being on a plane where the seats reclined so far you could be in the lap of the person behind. It's possible that maybe when I was young on a short haul flight it was possible but nobody did. But long haul and as an adult I've flown with a range of airlines and they only recline a small way. And airline staff don't allow you to during take off/ landing, or when meals are served. So not buying any tales about people reclining into laps as soon as they board and preventing the person behind eating/ moving etc.

I'm tall too, and balls should I pay for extra leg room, it's not something I can change. I find it easier to sit when it's reclined cos I just slide down. Or bend my legs into the aisle.

Adnerb95 · 06/01/2018 07:57

Impressed by PP who can sleep on flights even with reclined seats! Don't think I've ever managed more than a few minutes and a very painful back/neck the following day ... Confused

Simple rule -

Short haul, don't recline

Long haul, but not at mealtime, ABSOLUTELY recline - and if you are tall, I'm afraid you DO need to book extra leg room, sorry.

CherryMaDeara · 06/01/2018 12:58

I haven't read all the messages, but I reckon you should stroke her toe slowly, whispering loudly, "so pretty...."

Haha Muchkin!

CherryMaDeara · 06/01/2018 13:00

Agreed thehogfather

I've never seen a seat reckine that much. I spect some porky pies on this thread.

You've obviously not been on some of the flights I've been on!

Regarding the foot, I'd just ask her. If she does it again, summon the flight attendant. Some people have no understanding of reasonable behaviour.

GingerLDN · 07/01/2018 00:44

Wow impressive. I’ve only ever flown on planes where the seats reclined the tiniest amounts but lots of stories here about seats being almost horizontal! I thought only first class did beds... Wink

PurplePoppySeed · 07/01/2018 15:47

@Adnerb95 as I said before it's almost impossible to book extra leg room these days - have you tried?

You actually have to work out which carrier to fly with and then what they offer, it's a PITA and like I said before I don't mind paying extra, but there are many out there that can't afford to, nor should they have to.

Will you tell all the fat people they have to book at least 2 seats then - why should you have to sit next to them spilling over on to your seat?

Adnerb95 · 07/01/2018 18:12

@purple
People cannot help being tall and there are all sorts of things that we cannot help- so for example, I cannot help the fact that I have a very bad back which really complains after sitting in an airline seat for just an hour.
Should the airline have to cater especially for me? Of course not.

And the airlines I have travelled with, including budget airlines, all have some kind of Premier/Traveller Plus facility which gives you more legroom. I'm sorry if you have not found this but maybe you need to change airlines? Smile

Thehogfather · 07/01/2018 20:22

Tell you what adner, I'll pay extra just as soon as everyone heavier than me has to pay extra like you do for excess baggage weight. Till then I won't suggest they should voluntarily pay more than me to fly. (Unless we're talking two seats type when they should, exactly as I should if I chose to spread my limbs over the adjacent passenger)

Adnerb95 · 07/01/2018 20:55

thehog
I'm not suggesting anyone pays extra unless they want to, but you cannot expect other passengers on a long haul flight to be unable to recline their seats simply because it impinges on your comfort, if that is what you are suggesting.

It may impinge on my comfort for a mother and crying, new baby to be next to me. That's just tough.

Thehogfather · 07/01/2018 21:15

adner I'm a recliner myself so certainly wouldn't object to anyone else doing.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 08/01/2018 09:46

I’m not sure why people don’t have leg room. I was flying last night and my partner is 6ft 2” and had leg room, there was also a man in front of us who was huge like probably 7ft and he seemed fine. My partner has ridiculously long legs that are basically half his body and he doesn’t struggle. So what planes are people on that a 5ft 9” woman has her knees up against the seat? I don’t recline by the way, but someone else reclining doesn’t affect me. If I was on a long flight I would recline though. Anyone objecting would get told to kindly do one because there is no rule saying you cannot recline.
