To hate the dog

gta · 02/01/2018 11:38

We have a 10 week old puppy . I am 8 weeks pregnant with the most horrendous morning day and night sickness and my sense of smell through the roof.
The dog is NOT house trained and seems to be going backwards rather than improving. He is shitting and pissing EVERYWHERE. Pooing in his own bed. Eating his own poo. Vomiting his poo up. Weeing in his own bed. His bed is washed multiple times a day, new beds have been bought.
I can't cope . I am crying everyday with it all it's disgusting. I dread waking up in the morning feeling sick, being sick and then cleaning up all the piss and shit he's left all over the kitchen floor . I can't stand him being near me . I'm at a complete loss st what to do but I'm absolutely miserable and hate living in my house with him. Please help Sad

Take him the fuck back round the corner, then. Or do you know the breeder isn't reputable?

Nannyplumbrocks · 02/01/2018 13:16

Rebecca you have clearly never suffered through hyperemesis

Glumglowworm · 02/01/2018 13:16

So he’s not from a puppy farm. A breader who lives round the corner can still be dodgy as fuck. As indicated by selling an overpriced, too young puppy as a surprise gift just before Christmas.

Please stop bleating and find a bread specific rescue who can take the puppy immediately

Aturkeyisnotjustforchristmas · 02/01/2018 13:16

Why on earth do people get dogs when they clearly haven't a clue about dogs?

I love dogs and I feel really sorry that they get lumbered with such ignorant owners.

NeilPetark · 02/01/2018 13:17

So you can’t cope with it and your DP won’t ‘let’ you take it back. So what are you going to do? Because you can’t continue as you are and meanwhile your poor pup is being neglected.

DumbledoresApprentice · 02/01/2018 13:17

Your DP is out of line. If you’re too unwell to train the puppy and he’s at work then the problems are only going to get worse. The dog needs to be rehomed, ideally through a breed rescue. The longer you leave it the more unfair it is on the puppy as it will get harder to rehome and to retrain as it gets older. Your circumstances have changed since you got the dog and it’s not right for your family now. It’s normal for a 10wk puppy not to be housetrained but if you’re not well enough to housetrain it and obedience train it then you’ll end up with an uncontrollable adult dog that toilets indoors. You don’t want that with a newborn.

gta · 02/01/2018 13:17

He is on James wellbeloved twice a day at 9 and 5 , because he was doing so much mess in the night so we brought his feeding time forward, not made a blind bit of difference . It is hard to train him because he does it all when we're out or in the night or he will do it in his bed and hide it/eat it

Cross post - finally you've said what breed.

French bulldogs are notoriously difficult to train. Have you spoken to the breeder for advice?

KurriKurri · 02/01/2018 13:17

Can you talk to the breeder without you DP being around ? - ask him/her if s/he thinks the dog would be better going elsewhere. Then you could tell your 'D' P that the breeder has decided you are not well enough to look after the dog.

A french bulldog will be easy to rehome, they are very in vogue.
Is the dog a pedigree - do you have all his papers, - is he registered?
Do you have a vet cert saying he has been microchipped (they have to be chipped before they leave the breeder)

Norland · 02/01/2018 13:18

Why are posters referring to this being the OP's first dog?

OP wrote gta Sun 11-Jun-17 12:14:39
I collected my dogs shit and may or may not have wiped it on someone's car door and front door handle.... so OP clearly has had dogs previously.

So OP, as others have said in this thread;

  • get a puppy cage.
  • restrict the puppy to one room in the house and the garden
  • ensure you have a stair-gate if you have stairs, such it can't get upstairs.
  • consider if you, as a smearer of dog-shit on people's cars are really suitable to being a dog-owner.
  • don't post in AIBU if you genuinely want help with a dog, given there is a forum on here called the Doghouse, if you want advice on the dog.
  • don't post in AIBU but consider posting in the Pregnancy forum for advice on what to do about your enhance sense of smell.

You might also want to name the breed - when you post in The Doghouse - so you can get advice on what cage to buy; how much the puppy cost (so people can judge if it was expensive)

And finally, you might want to check all the various re-homing-of-pets organisations, that exist, to offer advice on how you could sell this puppy, recouping some of the money paid by your partner (dunno why so many peeps are referring to your 'husband' perhaps they didn't read the thread) from a prospective owner and don't get another dog, until you've had your second child and are practising birth control.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/01/2018 13:18

Have you bothered taking him to a vet to get him checked out?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/01/2018 13:18

puppy was allowed to leave at 7 weeks.

This is too young. Your puppy should stay with his mother until at least 8 weeks - some breeders prefer not to let them go until 10 weeks.

This is an frightened little baby who needs a lot more time and attention that your family seems able to offer him And this will get much worse when you new baby arrives.

Please re-home.

ExConstance · 02/01/2018 13:19

You will have no problems re homing a dog of that breed - despite the fact that they almost all have breathing problems due to being bred to look "cute". I cannot understand why a responsible breeder would let a puppy go at less than 7 weeks. I think there must be a back story to this. This puppy was too young to lean to be housetrained when you got him, he clearly understands there is something he is not getting right and is totally confused, that is why he is trying to eat his own poo ( though some breeds like PBGV are a bit prone to do that anyway) If you are going to keep him you need to get in some expert help to start again from day 1 with the housetraining, and it is a lot of effort. Some breeds are quicker on the uptake than others, I've heard of German Shepherd puppies only taking a couple of days to be trained during the day time, Dachshunds are notoriously slow. If you learn what to do and do it he will be trained, certainly during the day, quite soon. If you are seriously not interested in doing this properly then re home him now. Any reputable breeder would take him back.

PerfectlyDone · 02/01/2018 13:19

*The dog is a French bulldog.
He's not from a puppy farm the breeder lives round the corner from us *

Is the breeder kennel club approved?

Living round the corner from you does not make him not a puppy farmer.

Franchies belong, sadly, to a commonly farmed breed because they are fashionable just now and command top dollar.

Honestly, get him to a rescue, get better from your hyperemesis, have your baby and in years to come should you ever consider getting a dog again inform yourself before you do.

LouiseBrooks · 02/01/2018 13:19

What colour French bulldog? If he's a blue one they are not an approved colour and so she's not a registered breeder (also if she gave him to your DH when he was only 7 weeks old, that's too early.) . If he is pooing etc so much - and getting worse - have you taken him to the vet to see if he's ill? Has he had any innoculations yet? They should start at 8 weeks.

Get him checked at the vet then return him to the breeder or to an FB rehoming charity. Sod what your DH says. And don't ever get another dog.

DumbledoresApprentice · 02/01/2018 13:19

You’re leaving a 10 week old puppy alone whilst you go out? Don’t do that, it will be very distressed. How often during the night is your DP getting up to take the dog outside to go to the toilet?

BakedBeans47 · 02/01/2018 13:19

Why on earth do people get dogs when they clearly haven't a clue about dogs?

Indeed. I like dogs and we had a dog growing up but I know we would struggle to raise one with our lifestyle/working patterns. Threads like this make me feel confident we’re doing the right thing despite the occasional pangs of sadness and guilt as my sons would love a dog.

PerfectlyDone · 02/01/2018 13:20

French bulldog rescue

Please contact them.

Aturkeyisnotjustforchristmas · 02/01/2018 13:20

Please get this poor little puppy rehomed to someone who knows how to look after it.

Frequency · 02/01/2018 13:20

How are you training him?

Hiding/eating poop is not normal or good.

Please contact a breed rescue and give this pup a chance.

Also puppies need feeding more often than twice a day. He should be on four small meals a day and he should be taken outside hourly, fifteen minutes after eating, immediately upon waking from a nap and when he is sniffing/circling. He should also be taken outside during the night if he's messing at night. He should never be punished or scolded for messing in the house.

GeorgeW78 · 02/01/2018 13:20

A responsible breeder will want the puppy back and you should seriously consider it. The puppy needs and deserves lots of time, love & interaction and it doesn't sound like there's room for it in your life right now. I rehomed a 7 month old dog who had basically been ignored (hopefully not worse than that) and despite having experience it was really hard work, more than I'd imagined and I had done my homework as well as being checked out by the charity.
Please don't let your puppy end up like that. If you can't spare the time now it's unlikely you'll be able to spare it in 6 months time and your puppy will be even more hard work then. It'll be bigger, more boisterous, more stubborn, more frustrated, more work. It will be really hard in 6 months time for you (or the next owners if you give the dog up then) if you haven't put the work in now. Training at home, training classes, socialisation with people & other dogs all need to be done now before bad habits develop that can take years to resolve. You have to want to do it and enjoy it. If it's a chore, it's not for you.

HuskyMcClusky · 02/01/2018 13:21

The dog is a French bulldog.

Course it is.

caringcarer · 02/01/2018 13:21

I am not keen on dogs but I would have thought it would have been dog or baby. Clearly pregnancy (baby) can't go back so dog would. I have never had a dog but imagine they would be much like a baby constantly needing its nappy changed. Just a thought, could you be overfeeding the dog if it is pooping this much? Maybe the food you are giving it is not suiting it and giving it another brand might help.

HickDead · 02/01/2018 13:21

This thread is so desperately sad! Why people don’t do their homework before they pay out hundreds for an adorable puppy I’ll never know! Did you think that because it cost a fortune it would just come looking cute and no work would be required? My parents have a rescue springer spaniel that had had 7 different homes by the time it was 18 months and was rescued by a charity when they noticed it being given away free on gumtree, we all know what happens there! 5 years on she’s still not perfect and often incontinent at times but so loving and faithful.

With that mindset and set of circumstances, you are never going to do right by the dog. You need to act quickly before the dog develops real issues and the chances of rehoming are nil. There is a charity by me that will advertise for a new home on your behalf, the people are vetted and would receive the dog directly from you, is there something like that in your area?

WeAllHaveWings · 02/01/2018 13:21

Get the pup back to the breeder ASAP so he has the best possible chance of being rehomed to a suitable home. If your husband doesn’t agree just take the pup back yourself today while he is at work.

Puppies are hard work for the first year to 18 months, currently your home is just not suitable and it will cause behaviour problems in the pup you wont have the time needed daily to handle.
