Why would anyone do this?

Name changed for this thread.

I’ve just had FB message from a complete stranger who maintains she has been having an affair with my husband. She hasn’t, the message was full of totally incorrect details including dates and times when I know he was with me.

They had connected on linked-in but have never met. Why would somebody do this, particularly on NYE?

OP posts:

Sorry you've had such a hard time on here OP. MN really deserves it's Viper's Nest nickname sometimes.

Hope you manage to sort things out.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 02/01/2018 18:07

You don't hear what you want to hear so you flounce? Confused

RedDogsBeg · 02/01/2018 18:32

Yeah, that's right Lola you just keep sticking the boot in, not a smidgeon of empathy for the OP even though the Police are now involved in this situation, although seeing your attitude you are probably going to come back and accuse the OP of lying about that just for good measure.

extinctspecies · 02/01/2018 18:36

The OP presumably has to leave because of the police involvement.

CalpolandCoke · 02/01/2018 18:41

Hate to say it but I'm with frog. Sorry if it's not what you want to hear OP but I think something is amiss. I dunno what or how big an issue it is but it feels odd.

My friend's marriage ended after she kept receiving anonymous letters through the post saying that her husband had cheated. Went on for a few months, bloke said it was a crazy ex employee with a grudge as lots of redundancies has been made. It was an affair. It waa the tip of the iceberg.

I'd be on edge and doing my own detective work but that's just me.

Purple567895678956789 · 02/01/2018 18:44

OP couldn’t agree more - I never admit to anyone in real life that I use mn when I’m bored on my breaks working from home / up late for work, because people often flinch when this site comes up.

I read a thread last night (now removed) where grown adults were saying “off to bed dear / are you 12 / dickhead / get electrode therapy and benzo’s / cockmunt”.

Sometimes reading the responses is like eastenders and i think that’s what people want. It’s utterly pathetic - useful for information about local things / holidays etc but in general many of the threads turn into jeremy kyle scripts.

If I needed advice about a relationship i wouldn’t dream of asking for it here - it’s unhinged and creepy as a forum in that respect in my opinion and really very toxic individuals gain a voice here.

ShiftyMcGifty · 02/01/2018 18:50

“You don't hear what you want to hear”

Hmm perfect description of 90% if posters on here. It’s an affair! It’s an affair! I knew someone who knew someone who something slightly similar happened to and it was an affair therefore it’s an affair!! And how dare you don’t listen to a bunch of randoms who don’t know you when they assure you your spouse is lying and they knooooow

Should nominate this for classics - most ridiculous thread ever.

OP, you should just make up a bunch of shite and string along these drama lammas

Gemini69 · 02/01/2018 18:58

this is beyond weird... why would the Police care about a LinkedIn Message ... Hmm

RedDogsBeg · 02/01/2018 19:07

CalpolandCoke did you read the OP's update about Police involvement?

Gemini69 I would imagine the Police are involved because it has escalated way beyond just a LinkedIn message. The OP won't update as to how it has (1) because the Police will have advised her not to and (2) why should she satisfy the curiosity of people on here after the type of comments she received from some posters.

Spot on Shifty.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2018 19:08

Because the police should acre about either

a) attempted identity theft/ fraud/ scamming

or

b) stalking

Confused
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/01/2018 19:09

Gemini Little thing called the Protection from Harrassment Act.

Sorry you seem to have attracted some twats on here OP.

Gemini69 · 02/01/2018 19:11

now that's very interesting.. why would a complete Stranger do that then Hmm

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 02/01/2018 19:12

Why would the police care about one random message?! Very odd from the op.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 02/01/2018 19:13

It’s not harassment to send one email
Or stalking
In fact no laws have been broken here

TheDowagerCuntess · 02/01/2018 19:17

Good luck OP, I hope you're able to get to the bottom of it.

Piggywaspushed · 02/01/2018 19:18

I'd be enormously surprised if we knew all the facts now!

OldEnglishSheepDog · 02/01/2018 19:19

Jesus let it go! The OP has understandably decided not to feed the hysteria of this thread with further details.

PurpleMinionMummy · 02/01/2018 19:20

Police? That escalated quickly then Confused

gillybeanz · 02/01/2018 19:32

Just wondering what Police can do.
It's not nice to send such a message, but she could be telling the truth.
Even if she isn't what law has been broken?
Can harrassment be just one text?

RedDogsBeg · 02/01/2018 19:33

Rainbows not it's not so we can surmise that more has happened since the one message on Facebook, or are you just determined to believe that the OP is making it all up? But then again according to people on here why would anyone make anything up, it has to be true, with the notable exception of the OP and her husband of course who must be lying.

If you don't know why after several people have offered explanations Gemini69 you never will.

Hygge · 02/01/2018 19:53

I hope you're okay OP and this gets sorted out for you and your husband.

I thought she might be drunk and sending a stupid spiteful message to a stranger and she'd regret it in the morning, but it sounds worse than that now.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/01/2018 19:53

Harassment requires two acts, but the police can issue an harassment warning notice after just one act. A warning isn't an official sanction, but it can serve as a first step towards further proceedings.

DivisionBelle · 02/01/2018 19:59

Gillybeanz, and others.

It would seem likely, would it not, that if police are now involved SOMETHING ELSE HAS HAPPENED.

And that for reasons explained by RedDogsBeg, the OP has decided not to fill in tne details.

Could be anything: the Woman On Linked In is actually a hairy handed dog walker with an obsessive crush on the Op and was trying to split her from her DH, and has blown his cover by poking his dick through the letterbox, Dognapping, Identity Theft, Dodgy gangster activity on a Korean Potato Farm... anything!

gillybeanz · 02/01/2018 20:08

I don't know, I was asking about what the OP had said, not what they hadn't.

RedDogsBeg · 02/01/2018 20:12

Did you read the OP's posts gillybeanz? You'll find what she said in them.
