Because I'm 45 and still regular and getting a bit tired of it now. :( I'm not wishing away time or anything but it frigging makes me feel like crap.

When is the average? What was it like for you?

My mum was 49 and had a terrible time for a year with menopause. Flooding periods that lasted weeks, bad cramps and migraines etc. Once they stopped at 50 she’s never felt better (although does get more tired and has to wee more in the night)

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 30/12/2017 16:04

Thanks Indigo. My periods are heavy since I had DC and make me feel quite sick. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Periods totally stopped just over 4 years ago (aged 46). However from age 41 to 46 they grew very irregular. Sometimes 200 days between them - they were not heavy though, but they never really were (except when I was 15/16). I suffered night and day sweats quite badly, and am more anxious than I used to be. I was initially on HRT tablets, now on patches. Otherwise feel exactly as I used to!

I'm 48 and still regular as clockwork 😲

imonaplane · 30/12/2017 16:17

Had my last period this year just after my 54th birthday. Menopause symptoms awful!

Gilead · 30/12/2017 16:17

Started at eleven, finished at 48. Went on HRT for a couple of years. Still get night sweats and am 59!

52FestiveRoad · 30/12/2017 16:19

49 and mine are all over the place. Never know when something will happen. I just wish it was all over, I don't want any more kids, just stop now!

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 30/12/2017 16:20

I think they affect me more now. I get up in the middle of the night feeling ill and so on. I never used to!

Just turned 50 and they're still going on in exactly the same way they always have. Roughly 29 day cycle, 99% pain free and lasts 5/6 days. I too am bored with it now!

I realise i've been lucky to have trouble free periods all my life. I was lucky too to successfully TTC DD4 mid 40s. So i can't complain i guess ...

(but i do)

myidentitymycrisis · 30/12/2017 16:23

erratic and heavy between 47 - 49. stopped just before 50th birthday. Amazing!

elliejjtiny · 30/12/2017 16:23

I'm 35 and my last 2 periods have been 5 days late after being regular as clockwork before. I'm kind of hoping this is the beginning of the end as I have finished having babies and my periods are so heavy that even on meds to reduce the flow I have to wear adult size nappies to prevent serious leakage. I'm so done with periods.

theymademejoin · 30/12/2017 16:24

Mine have become much more irregular (anything from 10 days to 60 days) since I hit 51 about a year and a half ago. They are much lighter than they used to be but still horrendously heavy by most people's standards.

Beyond one hot flash a year ago, I've had no other symptoms. However, the irregularity is an absolute pain as I need to ensure I'm prepared if I'm away.

HazelBite · 30/12/2017 16:24

My doctor put me on HRT aged 56 as my periods were horribly heavy and getting closer together. It regulated them and revolutionised my life I had to come off the HRT 7 years later because of surgery and whilst I was "off" it I didn't have any bleeding.

Aridane · 30/12/2017 16:26
  1. Got sporadic and lighter then stopped last year. That’s all
noeffingidea · 30/12/2017 16:26

I was 54. The latest I have heard of is 60 Shock.

Lucisky · 30/12/2017 16:27

Started at 12 and finished at 47. The last one really took me by surprise because it was six months since the one before and I'd chucked out all the tampax and pads. My periods had been haywire since I was 42.

Lalliella · 30/12/2017 16:28

51 and just getting symptoms. However I hardly ever have periods as I’ve had the Mirena coil now for several years. I would really recommend it OP, my periods were horrendous, I wish I’d had it years earlier.

poisonedbypen · 30/12/2017 16:28

Last period at just under 47, but in the two years before that it was 11 months between periods. Looking back flooding & irregular from 39 or 40. No problematic menopause symptoms though.

FuzzyCustard · 30/12/2017 16:29

My periods started getting odd (intervals and length) at 41 and stopped completely at 46. I am very glad to have seen the back of them! However I have had hot flushes for the past 14 years and I wish they'd go away as they make me feel quite ill.

I also has other symptoms like terribly itchy/skin crawly arms for 3 years and brain fog for about the same length of time. They have happily gone now.

Neither my mother nor my sister went through menopause until they were in their 50s, so the oft-quoted "you'll do the same as your mother" argument didn't work for me.

Babyroobs · 30/12/2017 16:29

I'm nearly 50 and still have one about every 4 months or so although very light.

kaitlinktm · 30/12/2017 16:29

Sometime in my early 40s - they just got less and less frequent so I couldn't say exactly when. I started the week I was eleven, so I always thought early start, early finish - but looking at some of the posts on here it looks as though I'm wrong.

I was never offered HRT and my menopause wasn't really bad - just felt a bit hot at night sometimes - but until I went on the pill in my late teens I had terrible period pains. This improved after having children.

I know they are a nuisance but I just feel I have aged more since they stopped (weight gain, thinning hair, skin not as good) so be careful what you wish for.

speakout · 30/12/2017 16:29
  1. No drama, no menopausal symptoms.
expatinscotland · 30/12/2017 16:30

I'm 47 in a couple of months and my periods are still regular but very light. They last about 3 days. Bliss! Long may this continue. I take black cohosh for sweating.

Whowhatwhy · 30/12/2017 16:32

I'm 42 and more regular now than ever before! I had a really difficult time ttc dd1 (ended up on Clomid) due to the huge gaps between periods and now that there will be no more babies I am totally regular. I'd happily never have another!
