Because I'm 45 and still regular and getting a bit tired of it now. :( I'm not wishing away time or anything but it frigging makes me feel like crap.

When is the average? What was it like for you?

OP posts:
Growuphelen · 30/12/2017 19:28

Started menopausal symptoms at 49; vaginal dryness, loss of libido, irregular bleeding. Last period was at age 52.

Pebbles16 · 30/12/2017 19:39

I'm 48. No periods for 4 years. Hot flushes hair loss. Brain fuzz. According to dr, still too young. Take sage which helps a little

thecatneuterer · 30/12/2017 19:43
  1. My periods just stopped. That was it. All totally normal and then nothing. And no mood swings, no hot flushes - no symptoms whatsoever. The only difference is my eyelashes aren't as thick as they used to be.
Bratsandtwats · 30/12/2017 19:44

Oh yes, my libido crashed a few years ago and is only just starting to come back. Also, the horrendous insomnia. Only recently am I seeing any improvement in that.

MoorMummy · 30/12/2017 19:45

I’m 47 (nearly ) and it’s hard to say whether mine are in the wane, as I have a coil so periods are v light, though fairly regular still. Do get hot sweats on occasion at night, though my thyroid is under active and I wonder whether that’s anything to do with it? I’m very fit and do lots of exercise and I’ve never felt better.

I’m surprised to see so people mention 40’s, as I though meno was more in your 50’s?

Nubbled · 30/12/2017 19:46

I'm 51, I started noticing changes 2 years ago. Had a period that lasted 11 days, then straight down to 2 days.
Hot flushes are bastards, I've lost any desire for food :(
I once had rage so bad my poor husband thought Id been possessed .
And to add to the mix, I've a lot of female cancer in my family, so no HRT for me.

LineysRunner · 30/12/2017 19:47

I'm nearly 57. Still having periods. I am what's known as a statistical outlier.

HRTpatch · 30/12/2017 19:48

I was still having them at 50 when I went on HRT.
I'm assuming they've stopped....am 57 and still on HRT

Nubbled · 30/12/2017 19:49

Bloody hell Lineys, every month I prey its the last, its not like Im getting any benefits from being fertile.

Nubbled · 30/12/2017 19:50

*pray

Noofly · 30/12/2017 19:51

I’m 49. Still going like clockwork. Can’t wait for them to finish.

Knittedfairies · 30/12/2017 19:51
OrlandaFuriosa · 30/12/2017 19:52

Hazel, noooo

Nearly 58 here, then in December the full works, as if I’d been 16 again...oh god..

“ You’re lucky, less chance of osteoporosis..” Xmas Hmm

fleshmarketclose · 30/12/2017 19:52

Started at 11 finished at 48 regular as clockwork every 27 days, hot flushes for three months then nothing and no symptoms since. Feel exactly the same as I did before menopause, amazed really as was expecting an horrendous time.

phoenix1973 · 30/12/2017 19:58

Started aged 10.
Im 44 now and they're still regular as clockwork.
But my anxiety, which has always been a problem, now has a stranglehold on me. Im getting hairier, my hair is getting finer, my abdo is getting bigger despite running 2.6 miles 5 days a week.
Dont like periods but not sure if the alternative is any better.

Ragwort · 30/12/2017 19:58

48 ish (I think, can't really remember) - no symptoms at all, periods just stopped, one hot flush (which I only realised was a hot flush afterwards Grin). No emotional changes.

I think I am exceptionally lucky (or have odd hormones) as I never ever experienced period problems, would never know if was ovulating although I understand some women experience a 'feeling' that they are ovulating.

I have a close friend who is still getting regular heavy periods at 60 with no sign of the menopause at all.

phoenix1973 · 30/12/2017 19:59

Both mum and nan had hysterectomy so i have no idea what natural age meno to expect.

LineysRunner · 30/12/2017 20:00

@Nubbled oh it gets better. Two recent hormone tests indicate I'm still proper fertile and still will be at 57.

Started periods at 13.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 30/12/2017 20:01

I started at 16. Was quite late. I had two children at 28 and 34, and was sterilised at 35.

At 44 my periods had been heavier or lighter for a year or so, and I was starting with hot flushes. Then my periods started to miss. This went on for two years or so with the hot flushes, palpitations and irregular periods. At 46 I had my last period almost two years ago.

Am now 48 and coming up to two years without periods, but I still get hot flushes. Not as frequently or as extreme, but I still get them. My sleep still isnt great and I can't nap anymore. I had some anxiety but that is now better.

It's a fucking joy isn't it?

In some odd ways I actually missed my periods at first - having that monthly thing going on and noticing changes at different times of the month - it was like watching seasons change. I've got used to it now and have almost forgotten what it was like! 😊

Imsorrynow · 30/12/2017 20:03

Oh dear OP, I’m 58.
On HRT (patches) - still not ‘over it’.

Unicorn81 · 30/12/2017 20:03

The best thing i ever did was start on a pill called cerazete, no period for 5 years and none of the emotional ups and downs. I dont need it for contraception as partner infertile following cancer treatment and simply take it to save going through that every month. Stopped the migraines associatd with them too

toconclude · 30/12/2017 20:04

Last year, I was 55. But everyone is different.

ProperLavs · 30/12/2017 20:07

mine started at about 11/12. I'm 50 now and am still pretty regular, anything between 24-28 days. No change in bleeding.
I recently went to the dr and asked her to try hot because I was always so bloody tired and agitated and was not sleeping well, no hot flushes though. she was reluctant because my periods are regular.

I initially thought the first was great, especially during the oestrogen only phase, but I couldn't cope with the progesterone weeks. It was like having raging pmt for 2 weeks and the most horrendous pain about a week before my period and during. I stopped taking them after a couple of months and am better for it. That's not to say I won't try agin if I need too.
I am guessing they will stop in the next couple of years, but judging by the stories on here you never can tell.

Nubbled · 30/12/2017 20:07

LineysRunner, oh bugger.

Mother nature is a bitch.

mydietstartsmonday · 30/12/2017 20:09

44 with 2 years of menopause systems and 12 months of HRT.
Now 52 with 8 years of being period free - fantastic.
Embrace the menopause I say.
