Because I'm 45 and still regular and getting a bit tired of it now. :( I'm not wishing away time or anything but it frigging makes me feel like crap.

When is the average? What was it like for you?

  1. Have had awful time since. Never had a single problem with periods in my life. Wish I still had them and all the associated hormones
PurplePumpkinHead · 30/12/2017 20:14

Started 10/11 - now 46 and still every 23 days for 3 days. As above, really bored with it all now!

PantPlot · 30/12/2017 20:14

I haven't had a period since an ablation when I was 38. I'm now 43 and wondering about it all.

One thing I have noticed over the last 8 months or so is that my internal thermostat seems to have reset. From being a cold blooded beast all my life, I'm getting warmer and bloody warmer.

goose1964 · 30/12/2017 20:18

I was 51, only had occasional hot flushes beforehand

Missingthesea · 30/12/2017 20:23

I was - wait for it - nearly 61 Shock

Symptoms have been minimal though, just hot flushes, and those haven't been very bad.

BrownTurkey · 30/12/2017 20:25

Take solace in the fact that your hormones are still helping protect your bones - average age of Meno is 51 I believe. Virtually any horrible fatigue or symptoms you get from now on are probably peri Meno or Meno related though ho hum

Bumply · 30/12/2017 20:25

Last period at 53
I was regular up to my 50s then the timings went a bit off and sometimes they were heavier than I'd ever had. Then they petered out with the odd one taking me by surprise.
I didn't have too much in the way of menopausal symptoms. I went through a sweating at night stage in late 40s, but that seemed to go away.

Lizzie48 · 30/12/2017 20:27

I had a real problem with bleeding for a few years, very debilitating, and finally I was offered a D&C, which stopped my bleeding aged 44, 4 years ago. It was such a relief, as it had been a very relaxing ride before that.

BrownTurkey · 30/12/2017 20:27

Mine was 45, 5 years post partial hysterectomy ( which tends to make it earlier on average).

StoatofDisarray · 30/12/2017 20:28

I started on 1 January 1980, and I had my last period on 1 December 2017. I am 50 years old.

StoatofDisarray · 30/12/2017 20:30

First of December 2016! Looks like senility is setting in already!

Timmytoo · 30/12/2017 20:30

I started at 15 almost 16 and still
Going like clockwork at 37. I don't really get any pain and they're only a bit heavy on the 2nd & 3rd day. Haven't had kids yet, don't really want any but don't want my periods to stop either as I will feel old then.

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/12/2017 20:34

I'm 48 and they're still every 26 days. No hot flushes a such, but sweating and overheating much more as I get older.

Fecking hormones. Xmas Blush

mimibunz · 30/12/2017 20:38

48, am 50 now. Some hot flushes and aching joints but I’m glad to be done with periods!

BattleaxeGalactica · 30/12/2017 20:41

Elsiemoon - I'm glad you're OK now and thanks for your post. It's a very valid point that all PM bleeding from spotting upwards should be medically checked. I had scans/ further checks for PM spotting a few years back. Thankfully all clear but totally necessary.

ginorwine · 30/12/2017 21:06

Started at 13
Heavy periods most of life made me feel sick
Regular 28 day with terrible terrible pmt from ovulation to period made life hell - terrible moods very sore breasts
Then aged 50 periods just stopped no build up , no flooding . Think they were a bit shorter . Then I had a period a year later ! Just one !
About a month of minimal
Hot flushes . That's it .
Mother had same experience .
I feel completely normal . Gp said I had hormone sensitivity to either progesterone or eostrogen and that pregnancy wd be straightforward and cure the moods for the duration of pregnancy as well as menapause wd be good . Correct on both . I think
My experience was hereditary .
Maybe check yr history ?
The only difference if I'm quite dotty but then I always was a bit it's just worse !

Flaky · 30/12/2017 21:21

I'm 46 and mine are bang on time every month. 3 days of flooding (have to wear 2 pairs of leggings in bed or sheets like a murder scene) and feeling disgusting as tampons won't stay in Blush, then 2 light days. Always had very light periods until I had DC5 7 years ago.

Decided not to go ahead with hysterectomy when offered 2 years ago but re thinking now hearing it goes on for some well into their 50's!

hopsalong · 30/12/2017 21:27

Thanks for this thread. I hadn’t realised how late the menopause is. Just had my first period after DC2 and have just turned 39 and now that I don’t want any more children it all feels a bit ... pointless... (in addition to the increasingly terrible and ragey PMS). Was half wondering if some of my recent symptoms (hair falling out, cystitis, painful sex) were to do with the beginnings of the menopoause but think they may just have been the result of breastfeeding (which I am still doing a little bit at eight months). Well, will see. But props to all of you who are still dealing with periods over the age of 50!

Did you find that the psychological aspects of PMS got worse in the last decade or so of your periods? I don’t have water retention, headaches or bad cramps, but my mood is completely out of control now during ovulation and two or three days before period starts. The thought of another ten years or more of this fills me with gloom.

MsHarry · 30/12/2017 21:32

It is good to hear some easyish menopauses though as all you hear are horror stories.

loveyouradvice · 30/12/2017 21:34

56..... and had one two weeks ago, but was the first in six months - until that I was regular every 4 weeks.... think Im unusual though....

loveyouradvice · 30/12/2017 21:36

so meant that Im a statistical outlier like Limey - like that term! Im coming up for 57 and not stopped yet....

MsHarry · 30/12/2017 21:37

I think it's 2 years without a period before it's classed as over menopause by doctors.

AlpacaPicnic · 30/12/2017 22:20

I started by the time I was 12 and was instantly regular. Had depo injections for a few years in early twenties which stopped them altogether and then when I stopped the injections it took at least a year for my periods to return and they were lighter and shorter.

I was 40 in September and they have been getting a bit irregular... normal in June, had a six month gap between June and December where I'd have a day of light bleeding then nothing for a couple of months. Then December was a right doozy!
It's about of a relief to hear about other women who seem to have stopped around the same age.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/12/2017 22:38

I’m 52 and until a few months ago, was as regular as clockwork. Now nothing for three months. Hoping this is it, but won’t hold my breath. No hot flushes, but starting to cultivate a lovely beard. Xmas Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/12/2017 22:41

Last period at 51, a couple of years ago.

I sailed through the menopause with only a couple of annoying symptoms. Don't miss periods at all.
