AIBU to refuse to use my free delivery to buy dd (17) a top that I hate?

DD would pay me back, but I hate it. It's cut basically down to the navel. I'm not going to stop her buying it or wearing it, she's 17, if she wants to she can. But I have annual free delivery from the online shop she wants to order it from, and if I don't order and she wants it, she'll have to pay nearly as much as the top costs just for delivery.

So AIBU not to order it for her? I don't really want wear her going out on New Year wearing something that looks like it's a bit risque for Kim Kardashian. Sure, if she wants to wear it she can.

But I don't see why I have to faciliate it!

It's interesting op that it seemsnsomehow better that you used to lie to your mum about your gold mini (as did I!). Isn't it better that your dd shows you what she wants to wear.
It wouldn't be my choice. And it would look a million times better with skinny jeans (channelling khloe rather than kim) but it's not nearly as awful as it could be. And she's 17 and we all wear stupid stuff at that age!

KarmaStar · 29/12/2017 21:58

Buy it OP,she can go to the shops and buy a more revealing one anyway, plus if you give way on this one you're in a better position if you want to lay down some laws about the evening itself....😊

SaturndayNight · 29/12/2017 22:00

Can we see it? Go on, post a link.

pauldacresmellsoffarts · 29/12/2017 22:01

RottenTomatoes959 - you've persuaded me!

NoNoCharlieRascal - aw, that is so sweet! I'll try to be like your mother in future!

So fellow posters, thank you for the virtual poll. Shall tell dd that I shall buy her horrid top!

Almostthere15, true, I should feel glad she tells me. I'm obviously not that intolerant... :)

It just looks and sounds so cold. I am now sufficiently old enough to not dream of leaving the house without a coat, hat and scarf. Fair play to her, she’s 17. I was a Riot Grrrl in those days and dressed angrily.

pauldacresmellsoffarts · 29/12/2017 22:07

Draylon, my views too. Though she is going to a party with friends who I largely trust. She's not wearing this down the pub or into Trafalgar Square.

Graphista · 29/12/2017 22:08

Gotta say I agree with wolfie.

It's really not that revealing I've seen much worse, I've a 16 almost 17 year old and her friends frequently dress here at weekends.

Not only have I seen much more revealing I've worn it - in the 80's and 90's, handkerchief tops anyone? Sheer bodies with wonderbra underneath?

Unclench op and get her it, she's almost an adult she can wear what she wants.

pauldacresmellsoffarts · 29/12/2017 22:08

PrinceMichael, me too. I crave heat over pretty much everything else including food, money and sex these days.

Wild horses wouldn't get me out of the house in that top.

That is still victim blaming, surely?? Placing the blame squarely on the girls, for what they wear. Boys/men need to learn to, err, control themselves.

KenForPM · 29/12/2017 22:10

(Directed at Draylon btw)

JanetStWalker · 29/12/2017 22:10

Draylon said it best.

Redcrayons · 29/12/2017 22:11

Eek, it's a bit 'look at my tits'.
When I had the figure for that sort of thing, I wouldn't have had the confidence to wear it. Now I've the confidence, I'm too old and saggy.

Send her links to a couple of nice cardies to keep the chill off. Grin

Just do it for her. We all wore stuff like that, or the equivalent, when we were 17

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 29/12/2017 22:15

She’s 17. If you can’t wear a top cut to your navel at 17 when can you? Get her the top.

Graphista · 29/12/2017 22:16

Draylon speak for yourself that isn't how I dressed at 17. I wore sheer bodies, micro minus, 4" stilletoes (how the fuck I walked in them I don't know Grin), crop tops, wonderbras... Hell sonetimes just a bra! (Madonna to blame for that)

Voice0fReason · 29/12/2017 22:19

I definitely wore less than that when I was 17!
Wearing a low cut top doesn't put you at greater risk of harm

KenForPM · 29/12/2017 22:20

Jesus Draylon what the hell?? “Shouts available”?? That is victim blaming pure and simple. How about telling men and boys to control themselves FFS?? Or are you going to say they can’t help it???

Order the top for her - it's just churlish not to.
