We should reconvene on Monday to compare our sets 😂

MrsJakeLovell · 23/12/2017 21:39

Well, I won't be able to join in with comparing sets.

Bloody Lego used Yodel who had the package for 2 days without it going out to the courier, tried to deliver without a text or call today, left a card - we can't collect from depot or arrange redelivery until Wednesday.

I'm going to have a disappointed child Monday morning...so disappointed that Lego would use the universally recognised pile to poo that is Yodel

MrsJakeLovell · 23/12/2017 21:40

It was the cinema btw

ijustwannadance · 23/12/2017 22:22

The cinema is about to be retired too.

MrsJakeLovell · 23/12/2017 22:32

Yes, the imminent retirement was what pushed my son to the cinema over the detectives office! FOMO!

twitchypalm · 23/12/2017 22:34

Lego is awesome our whole family is mad on it. This will be the first christmas without a set on christmas day for us to build. But that is because we all agreed to get the new death star when they release more as we all really want that set.

Shoppingwithmother · 23/12/2017 22:39

That’s tragic MrsJake - I hope it comes soon.

I know Yodel can be crap but I have got to know our Yodel man quite well over the last month, just with various Lego deliveries and he is very good!

I’d love to join in with the Lego display, but my Ninjago City I don’t think will get built until children start back at school.....just imagining that first day...no fighting to deal with and opening that first back - the set weighs nearly a stone!!!

Doesn’t mean I will have a Lego free Xmas of course - I have a Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon to “help” with...

bananafish81 · 23/12/2017 23:01

A friend in the US had an entire city street on his kitchen table. He's in his 40s. I have SUCH envy. It is a thing of beauty

OP maybe the solution to your house/Lego dilemma?

here

Sugarcoma · 23/12/2017 23:28

I got the Disney castle for my birthday last year. It’s beautiful with lots of charming details and sits in our kitchen now. I then went and bought some extra Disney minifigs to populate it with.

I love LEGO.

foreverHoldYourPiece · 24/12/2017 09:19

I've bought DH the Lego Technic Porsche and Caterham. He's going to be delighted.

Go for it.

SilverySurfer · 24/12/2017 17:02

OMG bananafish that photograph is incredible! I don't know where to begin - maybe the carousel or maybe the fishing shack or maybe the camper van.

I've read they are bringing out Harry Potter Lego sets next year. Is this the first time? With all the HP interest still happening am I right to assume that they will be a good investment?

ButtMuncher · 24/12/2017 17:13

I fucking LOVE Lego and I'm a 33 year old mother of one. My DP also loves Lego. I reckon we've got about £2000 in total in our house Blush DP got the Ghostbusters firehouse last year Grin

Snugglepumpkin · 24/12/2017 18:58

I've been an AFOL for years mostly for the modular buildings (creator expert line) but picked up that ideas fishing set as well while I'm waiting for the Diner to be released Jan 1st.
I love the modulars, but the Fishing shop is something else again plus really nicely built on all sides so can be displayed alone.
Most of the other modulars are designed to link to others so have quite ugly sides.

Would also recommend the ninjago city model or the Temple of Airjitzu which is retiring soon.

Winter village line is cute as well, we have it under the tree now I've modded the train to have an engine.

Don't buy lego as an investment unless you can afford to lose it as you never know which bits will go up in price.
One year one of the freebies that came with orders was a tiny gingerbread house, it was selling for £90 this year (worth perhaps £5-10). A similar freebie set from another year only sells for £15.

WhatWot · 24/12/2017 19:05

I would, if it makes you happy go for it :)

LRL2017 · 24/12/2017 19:14

Go for it! Me and my husband love lego. Can't wait to buy it for our little girl. We got her one of the mini Christmas sets this year to keep for when she is old enough and going to do the same every year :)

ijustwannadance · 24/12/2017 19:33

If they bring out new Harry Potter sets or one big set it depends how much is produced and how limited it's release is to know if it's worth investing in.

They missed a trick by only releasing fantastic beasts for dimensions and not proper sets.

The older modulars and winter village sets were limited in prodution and time they were available, hence high asking prices now. Current modular sets have at least a 2 year production run and don't increase that much in value.

Things like the large £150 batman tumbler that dissapeared quickly will make more on the secondary market.

Just look at the simpsons house. Been out for years and they still haven't retired it.

The fact they have re-released the Taj mahal might pave the way to other re released prompted by keeping the afols spending on the more expensive sets.

WeirdCatLady · 24/12/2017 19:40

My Aunt was a miserly old bag. When she died my Dad gave me some money from her estate. She hated spending money.

I BOUGHT A LEGO DEATH STAR!

Best. Thing. Ever. It now lives on top of my freezer in the kitchen where I gaze at it fondly every day.

Contented sigh.

I’m also getting Lego for Christmas 😍

YesThisIsMe · 24/12/2017 19:43

Bloody hell is the gingerbread house going for 90quid? I love that model but it’s teeny. Mind you of course mine’s been opened and made.

MrsJakeLovell · 24/12/2017 19:44

I thought I'd let you know that at 0745 this morning there was a knock on the door and the Yodel delivery man presented us with a parcel.

I take back everything I said, wrote and thought!!! Looking forward to seeing DS face in the morning.

Nadolig Llawen I chi gyd xxx

ijustwannadance · 24/12/2017 19:48

There are no special parts on the little gingerbread house though so could buy the bits to make it on brickowl/bricklink much much cheaper.

glitterglitters · 24/12/2017 20:04

Is it bad to be wishing my children's younger years away so I can play with Lego?

ButchyRestingFace · 24/12/2017 20:14

I have never heard about lego for grown ups before this thread.

In my naive curiosity, I gamely punched ”adult lego” into a Google search engine.

😲😳🤢😵😬🤯😱

Definitely not what I was expecting.

Bonkersblond · 24/12/2017 20:22

Go for it and keep the box, build it for display and then if you are lucky enough you may be able to sell for 3x what you paid for it in a few years, so think of it as an investment, happened to us with Lego of the Caribbean, The Black Pearl.

notgivingin789 · 24/12/2017 20:34

Just searched " The lego death star". It's around £369.00 pounds ?!!!!! (faints). Why is Lego so expensive ?!!
