£10 secret Santa

A pair of thermal socks and a box of chocolates.

What would you think of this?

Why on earth would chocolate Brussels sprouts be inedible? They are just milk chocolate in sprout wrappers.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 20/12/2017 20:19

..feeling a bit better about my choc brussel sprout purchase now! Argh Secret Santa isn't supposed to be this stressful is it.

JessieMcJessie · 20/12/2017 20:19

“A £10 box of rubbish Thornton’s chocolates”

See, I think Thornton’s choice are better quality than a lot of others like Milk Tray etc and 10 quid is quite a reasonable amount to spend on chocks.

Growingboys · 20/12/2017 20:20

I would love that

cleofatra · 20/12/2017 20:21

OMG I'd love thermal socks!

missiondecision · 20/12/2017 20:22

Warm feet whilst eating chocolate, what’s the isshhooo??

user21 · 20/12/2017 20:22

Overthinking it

Do we know what the OP bought yet?

howthelightgetsin · 20/12/2017 20:29

I’m not 100% sure if Laurie is joking or not ...

We don’t do Secret Santa at work THANK GOD. If we did I would would socks or chocolate or wine. Generic.

YeahRightOk · 20/12/2017 20:31

I got that for my 21st. From a thoughtless bint of a friend. Several grievances later, I dropped her.

JennyBlueWren · 20/12/2017 20:33

I got this as my Secret Santa today! Quite happy. Although even more pleased that my recipient was really pleased with their gift.

SemolinaSilkpaws · 20/12/2017 20:48

Another one who would like socks, thermal or otherwise.

I gave them once to a male staff member and embroidered his name on one in sequins and put the other inside with a miniature of whiskey. He seemed thrilled.

Much rather have something a bit bland than something offensive.

user21 · 20/12/2017 21:00

Coincidence? JennyBlueWren

ReanimatedSGB · 20/12/2017 23:13

Well, I got a bottle of perfectly decent red wine, which is fine by me. Though I slightly suspect that the person who was supposed to be my Secret Santa was either off sick or didn't bother, and lovely office manager, who had organised it, had been one of those who are sufficiently on the ball to lay in two or three generic but acceptable gifts in case anyone was left out.

(Though there was one person who labelled the gift they had bought as 'To Secret From Santa' which made us all laugh.)

ClaryFray · 22/12/2017 15:17

@MammaAgata he is a fitness buff and full of himself.

safariboot · 22/12/2017 15:33

Nice enough.

It's inevitable with secret Santas that sometimes the giver will know the recipient very well, and sometimes they won't, and the gifts will reflect this.

My work did the "write a wishlist" thing this year, but that instead creates the issue when you get a list and everything on it is more expensive than the supposed budget.

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2017 15:40

Nothing brings out latent snobbery like a Secret Santa!

froshiechipandbrickie · 22/12/2017 21:01

Bertrand yup, I got fuzzy socks and (probably home or handmade) cat slippers. Apparently a terrible gift according to some people. But I personally happen to love it 😊

User11011 · 22/12/2017 21:12

I hate work secret Santa. Always feel a bit pressured into doing it, always get someone I barely know, I always receive the cheapest thing in the Boots 3 for 2. One year 2 bottles of Dove shower gel.
This year was the worst though. Everyone got their gifts and I didn't get one. There was one present left where the tag had fallen off. Opened it: carnival body paint. I looked confused - then colleague A came over and said that was meant for Colleague B who had put it on her wishlist. Turns out 2 people bought for Colleague B by mistake! So I basically spent £10 on someone I don't know and didn't even get the cheapest Boots 3 for 2 in return this year!

Thermal socks are the holy grail of socks.I love mine
