Everyone obviously thinks what they are telling you is true but sometimes their sources or opinions are not factually correct.

What is the most ridiculous or bizzare fact/opinion you have seen ?

Generally it is bizarre that people talking absolute bollocks about things they know nothing about are actually taken seriously.....

Or maybe I don’t know what I am talking about Smile.

SuziePink · 21/12/2017 10:31

People thinking they know my situation better than I do and I should go into excruciating detail you prove that's not the case. Being bullied on my own thread at a very difficult time for me. (My 'favourite' was someone telling me I'd been dumped over and over again when I was about 3 months pg)

Being invited to just the reception of a wedding is highly insulting.

Partners should either be able to do what they want or the OP should LTB if they don't do the washing up/take the bins out etc.

Everyone has the same amount of money.

The OP should do nothing about their neighbour/co-worker doing something illegal (wrongly claiming benefits, falsifying expenses or time sheets etc).

thenightsky · 21/12/2017 11:38

That Marilyn Munroe was a size 16.

I once saw a collection of her clothes and they were tiny... about a 6 I'd guess.

SuziePink · 21/12/2017 11:55

That all trans women are men who just want to get into women's changing rooms and toilets, rape women, and if you disagree you cannot be a feminist.

If you want to bring up your child vegetarian then you're mad/abusive etc and they will be undernourished. What about protein? They can't choose their diet for themselves therefore they must eat meat!

derxa · 21/12/2017 12:17

That all trans women are men That sadly is true.

AgnesSkinner · 21/12/2017 12:19

That Marilyn Munroe was a size 16.

You can thank the “lovely” Liz Hurley for that “fact”, as she called Monroe “very big”. They actually have pretty much the same stats, although Hurley is a couple of inches taller.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 21/12/2017 12:25

That anyone who doesn't think / do / have / spend / parent / live exactly like you do is weird and / or lying.
That everyone lives in London or SE England and nowhere else exists.
That staying at home with your kids can't be fulfilling or make you happy.
That all teenagers are horrible.

MaisyPops · 21/12/2017 12:49

AgnesSkinner
Wasn't Marilyn Monroe a 16 by clothing sizes at that time? Yet the same measurements today in modern sizing would be like a 10/12.

I only ever hear the 'MM was a 16' trotted out when there's any discussion about clothing size/weight as proof that it's fine to be overweight or used as proof that vanity sizing exists (which also quite an unpopular statement according to some)of

expatinscotland · 21/12/2017 13:03

'And that really small wedding presents are the norm in mn. Wish it was where I live. You'd generally spend about €150 for a friend, more on family.'

I have a genuine question about this. Obviously you are not in the UK if you are using Euros, but what do low-income people do? What if you really cannot afford to hand over such huge whack as a wedding gift? Do you decline the invitation? What if you cannot afford a big wedding? Do you just not get married?

crunchymint · 21/12/2017 13:12

That is a lot for a wedding gift. I suspect though that it depends the social circles you move in.

lostincumbria · 21/12/2017 13:13

I know someone called Aaron. He pronounces his name Aron.

I know someone else called Aaron. He pronounces his name Air-on.

I say their names how they want, not how I prefer.

It's the same with Shaun. You say it to sound like shorn, because that's his name. You don't say it the you would prefer.

Same as Thierry Henry, innit?

derxa · 21/12/2017 13:19

Same as Thierry Henry, innit? We call him Terry Henry.

SuziePink · 21/12/2017 13:28

People misquoting other people derxa

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/12/2017 13:36

I suspect the '150 euro for a friend, more for family' poster is in Ireland, because it is always cited how much people expect to give as a wedding gift there and I too wonder what happens if that amount is unaffordable, or someone simply decides they don't want to hand over such huge sums to attend a wedding as I'm sure that not attending would be seen as a bigger insult, especially if it is close friends/family wedding.

But I've also seen that it is expected that you send money even if you don't attend, but if you really can't afford it, you don't have to send money.

Does that mean that Irish AIBU is full of brides asking 'AIBU to think that DSiss just tight not skint because she gave us nothing/only gave us 50 euro for our wedding/didn't attend our wedding because she said she couldn't afford it'

KenForPM · 21/12/2017 13:56

Oh yes, ALL teenagers are horrible. There was a thread a while ago saying “if you think babies/toddlers are bad wait for teens!!” where the OP’s 17 year old DS came home drunk and vomiting everywhere, with the implication that ALL teenagers did/do this. No. They. Don’t. Neither me nor my brother did. I have ASD and didn’t have many friends at school so I’m already slightly different to my peers anyway, but my brother is definitely NT and didn’t do it. From the sounds of it not many of his friends did either, they had one friend who used to get drunk and be sick and they’d joke about it, but that was the one friend.
It’s a tired and lazy stereotype that’s actually quite insulting.

StripySocksAndDocs · 21/12/2017 14:03

I'm in Ireland. I give 100 to family. Never been an issue. I've a friend who thinks 'you can't give less than €200 to family' it's an entirely self impossed belief.

I've been to weddings were I gave low cost presents or nothing. I was badly off and told by the couple theyd prefer nothing than me feeling I couldn't afford to go.

That passports must universally have six months validity left on them to be able to travel.

Not true, UK citizens can travel to Europe and the US, plus probably many other countries with a passport that is only valid for the planned duration of travel.

CurryWorst · 21/12/2017 14:32

That all trans women are men who just want to get into women's changing rooms and toilets, rape women, and if you disagree you cannot be a feminist

If that is what you have gathered you haven't understood a single word. Which is sad for you.

AgnesSkinner · 21/12/2017 15:00

MaisyPops

Possibly, but even back then she was a US size 12 top and a size 8 trousers (with 35-22-35 measurements).

I still like to point out the hypocrisy of La Hurley given the similarity of their measurements though ...

SuziePink · 21/12/2017 15:01

CurryWorst WTAF? MN is full of trans bashing. I have understood perfectly thank you. Cheers for demonstrating some of the patronising behaviour I have come to associate with MN.

sinceyouask · 21/12/2017 15:24

MN is infamous for trans bashing. It's really not worth getting into this with curry or anyone else, Suzie, it never goes well and it will derail a perfectly nice thread.

SuziePink · 21/12/2017 15:30

sinceyouask yeah, I know. It is kind of nice to have some of the so-called facts demonstrated on this thread!
