What good news about Brexit do you think there is which is not being reported, Lime?

VladmirsPoutine · 17/12/2017 18:41

You know what, I think perhaps maybe we should leave the EU just so that the impending shit show really becomes a reality and people can have a rethink.

Someone tell me why brexit will be such a disaster?
Various posters on this thread including me have gone through the tangible aspects of Brexit which you must have just over-looked because it was you that even asked the question earlier on in the thread prompting the responses. If you can't even read the responses to the question that you posed on a parenting forum I wonder whether you're fit to have a democratic vote.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 18:43

I agree Vladimir, except that it's not really my place to say anymore because I've got the hell out and won't personally have to live through it.

Lime19 · 17/12/2017 18:54

For aggressive and horrible response I referenced earlier, I give you Vladimir above.

I'm not "fit to vote" Hmm

Lime19 · 17/12/2017 18:57

Still not sure how it will make us poorer culturally... do with citizens here not have the right to stay here? I'm not sure what you mean?

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 17/12/2017 18:57

We can't have a revote now. I am a remainer but you cannot have a democracy where you vote and vote until you get the result you want.
I don't think there should have been a vote. I don't think the majority was enough. But now it has been accepted I think brexit is a certainty sadly.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:00

Well some people will probably not have the opportunity to participate in culturally enriching experiences such as the Erasmus programme, and they won't be able to do what I did in my youth, i.e. rock up in a foreign capital and look for a job as an au pair without having to worry about a visa. And if 18-25 year olds visit Paris (and I think other European cities as well) they will no longer get into all the museums and galleries for free.

But I agree the cultural loss will not affect everyone because not everyone is interested in culture. You can lead a horse to water, etc...

OhThisbloodyComputer · 17/12/2017 19:01

I notice that Remainers have a very impressive MTTPA rating.

(That's the mean time to personal abuse)

It must be all that culture and superior reasoning skills.

Lime19 · 17/12/2017 19:04

I kind of like the idea of visas though. I assume it will limit certain people's stay and allow more control which surely can only be a good thing?

We are still part of Europe and if I wanted to go to Paris I can. I might just need to fill out more paperwork. It doesn't seem too disasterous to me.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:07

Well it wasn't a good thing for the American girl whose job I took over because she had to leave the country. And they aren't a great thing for people who happen to fall in love with someone from another country (another culturally enriching experience) and then find that they aren't allowed to live in the same place.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 17/12/2017 19:08

That's an ironic generalisation ohthisbloodycomputer. I'm a remainer. I think brexit will and must go ahead. I don't resort to personal abuse.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/12/2017 19:12

Lime19 Because you clearly have zero idea of even the most basic functions and machinations of the EU. It's quite clear from reading your posts that you know absolutely nothing about the EU. Whether or not that's something to be proud was up until June 2016 of little relevance to everyone else, but yet here we are.

Lime19 · 17/12/2017 19:13

but isn't that how it works in other countries? Australia and USA... I can't just rock up there and take an office job. They have rules that seem to work well. Australia wants people that support themselves or that will work in an area with a shortage. Of course you can apply for a permanent visa and become a citizen etc so there are ways. It seems fair to me!

The issue is that so many people want to come to uk to live, to work, to use our great healthcare! How many uk people leave annually to move to less popular eu countries? I'd be interested to know those figures.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:16

Yes well don't worry Lime, once the Brexiters have got their way and fucked up the economy, dismantled the health service and stripped down our employment rights nobody in their right mind will want to come and live here, work here or use our health service, so it looks like you'll get what you wanted, eh?

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:18

By the way, the healthcare system is better in France and in lots of other EU countries too!

ihatetosay · 17/12/2017 19:18

why dont you just shut up about this - the decision was made and it will happen whatever all the experts on here say about it not being binding etc.

PaintingByNumbers · 17/12/2017 19:19

Sadly, as our economy tanks and we rush to leave, you are going to find the need for a visa works against, not for, you

My only wish now is that brexit voters be forbidden from emigrating so they can enjoy the luxury of reliving a 1970s style economic collapse.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:25

Ah yes, "put and shut up" - because that's what we do in a healthy democracy which is supposedly the envy of the world, isn't it?

Hmm

We British are so myopic about our own greatness and own competence compared to the rest of the world. We think we have the best healthcare and the best democracy and the best his and the best that which is why everyone wants to come and live beee and we need to close the borders.

Meanwhile, everyone else just thinks we're arrogant dickeads who need to get over ourselves.

JacquesHammer · 17/12/2017 19:27

why dont you just shut up about this - the decision was made and it will happen whatever all the experts on here say about it not being binding etc

It's hardly "expertise" to understand the basic tenets of the democratic system

Lime19 · 17/12/2017 19:28

Tell me the figures then? How many people leave uk vs how many people come here?

We certainly won't have the best healthcare in Europe if we let everyone come and use it. That's why it took an hour to book a gp appointment the other day. Too many people for system.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/12/2017 19:29

One of the most peculiar things about Leavers are their questions. 'How will it be a disaster' 'What's so good about the EU anyway' 'XYZ seems to manage' and so on and so forth.
Questions which they could have answered themselves with a bit of research. You know, that whole thing about being an informed citizen.
It seems they pose seemingly rhetorical questions on the one hand but struggle to display any knowledge of the issue on the other, or even the ability to express an opinion that is grounded in fact. I am by no means a source of knowledge on the EU and luckily because of my background I won't have to really suffer the fall out of Brexit but some of the opinions expressed by Leavers even on this thread would be laughable if it weren't such a serious issue at stake. But here we are... it was after all the will of the people.

Battleax · 17/12/2017 19:29

Ah yes, "put and shut up" - because that's what we do in a healthy democracy which is supposedly the envy of the world, isn't it?

The phrase is "put up OR shut up" and you could argue that it was David Cameron's challenge to the UK populace via the (entirely democratic) referendum. It backfired on him magnificently but he had his answer. Blame Cameron.

LoveInTokyo · 17/12/2017 19:33

I absolutely do blame Cameron.

The hard Brexiters in the Tory party really don't give a shit about the economy or the NHS or housing or any of the things that matter to ordinary people. They're quite happy to drive us all off a cliff, as long as they get what they want.

Cameron should have put his foot down and stood up to them but instead he gambled with the country's future to save his own career and lost.

There are no benefits I'm afraid. The best we can hope for now is damage limitation.
