Biggest swing towards remain now people are smelling the coffee

Yanbu. The referendum was a knife edge result, and there was far too much misinformation about the disadvantages of the EU. Why would we plunge the country into economic disaster and international political wilderness for that?

Humpsfor20yards · 17/12/2017 00:47

The funny thing is, even brexiteers know it's going to be shit. They still want it though, because well, you know, sovereignty or something.

oliveinacampervan · 17/12/2017 00:55

Many people I know who voted to remain, say they would vote for brexit now.

So this is a load of bollocks.

SoftlyCatchyMonkey1 · 17/12/2017 01:00

The Independant is a shit source

ButteredScone · 17/12/2017 01:04

Brexit will happen. The debate to have now is what kind of Brexit, how and when.

Rerun the referendum and the result will be the same but the campaigns will be even more divisive.

Thedriftofstars · 17/12/2017 01:05

Hilarious how every time this subject comes up people pop up with 'we voted to leave, it's democracy, get over it'.
Err no. That's not how democracy works, actually. It's an ongoing process. You don't just vote on something and that's the end of it forever. The world is in a constant state of flux, things change, as do people and their opinions. Genuinely find it amazing how many people don't seem to understand the basic tenets of democracy. Confused
And no, I'm not saying there should be another referendum. I just wanted to point out how ridiculous some people's understanding of 'democracy' is.

oliveinacampervan · 17/12/2017 01:14

@TheDriftOfStars

You are talking shit.

We voted to leave, WE ARE LEAVING.

There IS no 'ongoing process to leave or remain....' Only an ongoing process to LEAVE.

Sorry hun. Sad

Oh ffs Hmm shut up about a re-vote.

I voted remain but you know what I live in a democracy so I bloody deal with it.

crazycatguy · 17/12/2017 01:22

I campaigned for a Tory government in 2005 and didn't get one.

I continued to campaign for one. Was I a traitorous individual, clueless about democracy, trying to frustrate the will of the people?

VladmirsPoutine · 17/12/2017 01:22

@Thedriftofstars I'm with you on this. So much so that I often wonder if some people should flat out be denied the vote as they just don't or can't understand the basic tenets or machinations of democracy. But ironically we need more democracy so I don't advocate for that. I just seethe silently.

oliveinacampervan · 17/12/2017 01:22

Ooooh, but @syndneyy, democracy means people vote, and a result is given, and then the losing side whines and bitches and moans and throws spanners in the works to try and get the decision reversed, because getting the democratic will of the public reversed is democracy you know!!!

PMSL. Amazing how the remoaners will do ANYthing to get their own way.

Ain't gonna happen snowflakes.

Also fucking hilarious how the whinging snowflake remoaners try and kid themselves that the brexit voters 'didn't know what they were doing' when they voted to leave the EU.

They try and convince themselves of all kinds of wanky untrue bollocks to convince themselves they are right.

Upshot is, if the remoaners are unhappy at leaving the EU (And we ARE leaving!) they can always leave the UK, and go live in a country that is in the EU. You won't be missed.

PumpkinSquash · 17/12/2017 01:28

I voted Remain. FFS, though, give it a rest. You lost.
I'm not going down a road only one way of speaking is right. All entitled to our views.

I have actually left the UK to go and live in a country which is not leaving the EU.

It wasn't 100% because of Brexit (OH is from that country) but I am very glad to no longer be living in the UK.

I think people who say things like "remoaner" and "snowflake" and "you lost, get over it" are very immature. If that really is the level we have sunk to as a country then god help the UK.

Thedriftofstars · 17/12/2017 01:36

olive I was talking about democracy in general. Hun.

Thedriftofstars · 17/12/2017 01:38

Anyway Olive you're coming across as a bit angry and an unhinged snowflake. Are you ok, hun? Wink

Julie8008 · 17/12/2017 02:42

I dont remember the UK getting a vote on joining the modern EU? I certainly dont remember, one year later, another vote to check the the result.

I think all democratic decisions should be subject to reversal every 6 months. Possibly multiple referendums, 13 out of 25, to make sure we get the right result. Or is that until the EU gets the right result? Who is it that decides what the right result is?

Brokenbiscuit · 17/12/2017 04:12

I really don't understand why Brexiteerspeople object to the idea of a second referendum on the terms of Brexit, on the grounds that the first referendum was a democratic vote and that the "will of the people" must be respected.

If the will of the people hasn't changed, then surely it will be respected and Brexit will go ahead as planned. However, if "the people" decide on learning the likely terms of any Brexit deal that they would rather run screaming in the opposite direction, then surely that too should respected. It would be profoundly undemocratic to suggest otherwise.

The fact is, despite all of the PM's pronouncements that Brexit means Brexit, none of us were 100% sure when we voted exactly what Brexit was going to look like. For those who believe in democracy, surely there can be no objection to letting people have another say once a potential deal has been negotiated? Unless, of course, you're afraid that they might change their minds when they know what they're actually voting for...

MissionItsPossible · 17/12/2017 06:22

Get several grips and then get over it.

Andante57 · 17/12/2017 06:49

Polls have been wrong about just about everything recently - the last election, Trump, Brexit.
Polling organisations have had their day - they don't work any longer.

lasttimeround · 17/12/2017 06:57

I think a vote on the final deal would be sensible

LellyMcKelly · 17/12/2017 07:01

Hey Olive, if you knew what you you were voting for, can you tell the British Government, because they clearly haven’t got a clue.

I still can’t believe we are doing something this stupid. I still can’t find one Brexiter who will give me a sensible answer to the question, ‘how will we be better off after Brexit?’
