Biggest swing towards remain now people are smelling the coffee

Well I think the rape/death threats that Gina Miller received and some of the rebel MPs last week who were all standing up for parliamentary sovereignty would beg to differ with you OTBC.

Is there anything more tedious than a whinging remoaner?

safariboot · 18/12/2017 05:01

Yes. An insufferably smug leaver.

ACertainRatio · 18/12/2017 05:17

OTBC that's not 'playing with he rape card', pretty obtuse of you to claim that. People who try to uphold parliamentary sovereignty are being threatened with rape/hanging. Who is playing the rape card?

ACertainRatio · 18/12/2017 05:19

Also, taking the piss out of Leavers isn't libel.

Humpsfor20yards · 18/12/2017 06:34

Christ. You're playing the rape card

Wtf?

allegretto · 18/12/2017 07:47

@ohthisbloodycomputer Newsjack is written by listeners. Why don't you submit a sketch if you're so worried about it?

Humpsfor20yards · 18/12/2017 07:56

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but you're not a high ranking civil servant or a brain surgeon are you? You are a poster on Mumsnet.

Oh by the way, I actually was a civil servant and part of my job was advising the government on EU law and on Brexit

Ha ha ha.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 18/12/2017 08:09

@ACertainRatio

It is playing the rape card actually.

We were talking about whether or not it was fair to make massive generalisations about 17 million people who voted to change our system of government. First @pissoffneighbour claimed to know what issues they all really care about, and which ones they only pretend to care about (like sovereignty). That's an amazing pre-judgment to make over 17 million you've never met.

When she/he was unable to substantiate that (how can anyone know the true intentions of 17 million people?) they decided to raise the stakes and bring up the subject of rape threats. Again, wholly unsubstantiated. But of course, highly emotive.

I'd call that playing the rape card.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 18/12/2017 08:14

@Humpsfor20yards

Oh by the way, I actually was a civil servant and part of my job was advising the government on EU law and on Brexit

Another unsubstantiated claim which doesn't ring true.

The poster certainly doesn't have the demeanour or vocabulary of a high ranking government advisor. They don't go around insulting people who ask them questions. So I take this claim with a pinch of salt.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 18/12/2017 08:24

@allegretto

Newsjack is written by listeners. Why don't you submit a sketch if you're so worried about it?

Newsjack takes some jokes from the public, but it's edited by bigots. Such as the 'comic' who admitted she knew 'sod all' about the EU, then did a 5 minute rant based on the false premise that leave voters (all 17 million) are all racists.

That sort of prejudice is every bit as awful as Bernard Manning's bigotry.

At least Manning had the excuse of coming from an under privileged background and living through challenging times.

The Newsjack hosts are all white middle class products of ring fenced Home Counties comfort.

They should be thankful for the easy lives they have had, rather than feeling sorry for themselves because the voters don't seem to share their priorities.

It's depressing how stupid and narrow minded they are, so I don't bother listening to Radio 4 'comedy' any more, as it's full of twats with names like Marcus Brigstocke treating us to their very narrow world views, which are entirely shaped by their cosy existence at university and the BBC.

allegretto · 18/12/2017 08:30

The poster certainly doesn't have the demeanour or vocabulary of a high ranking government advisor.

That sort of prejudice is every bit as awful as Bernard Manning's bigotry.

Seems like Radio 4 editors aren't the only ones who are prejudiced!

snash12 · 18/12/2017 08:33

Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen

JacquesHammer · 18/12/2017 08:36

Also, @JaquesHammer has spotted my Y Chromosome, which I tried to cover up under some flowery prose

Why? Do all women talk in "flowery prose"?

You were frightfully obvious.

LakieLady · 18/12/2017 08:40

The ballot paper question was very clear and those that bothered to vote did

It may have been clear, but as there was no information as to the form that Brexit might take, it was like signing a blank cheque. There was a huge amount of misinformation from both sides, and a total lack of any meaningful suggestions as to how things like Euratom and the NI/ROI border issue might be resolved.

I think it would be perfectly appropriate for there to be a second referendum once the terms and nature of Brexit are known. Let the people express their will once they're in possession of the facts.

makeourfuture · 18/12/2017 08:42

A quick word.

No one has to prove that God does not exist.

It is up to leave to make a strong case. It is the unknown. Referring back to before can be used but the strength of that argument is suspect.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 18/12/2017 08:51

@JacquesHammer

That was a joke.

The other poster didn't think I am obviously male.

Also, why should it matter what chromosomes I have when I'm posting.

I don't advertise my XY pairings, as it invites certain types to gang up on me, based on their prejudices. Which is where the conversation will now be headed. Which is good in a way, as I've got work to do.

Must admit I have no idea of the gender of any poster here. Bit disappointed how, given the freedom of anonymity, so many people use it to dish out spite and instant judgement, rather than being honest about themselves. Nobody will judge you - at least they shouldn't -
and likewise your judegements of other people are meaningless as nobody knows enough about you.

Surely that's the perfect environment in which people could have an honest debate. Instead we get posters claiming to be senior government advisors - when they display none of the symptoms - and others that make false accusations of racism, then even rape!

Good grief. What are they hoping to achieve by this? How will that persuade anyone to re-think their attitude?

Anyway, I've got work I need to do now. I wish this had been more productive and inspiring. But it hasn't. it's been a massive disappointment.

Still Brexit continues apace, and none of you have been able to charm anyone into re-thinking their approach, because you resorted to the usual emotional blackmail tactics. Which only confirms the suspicion that yours is a vote based on emotions rather than evidence and facts.

LakieLady · 18/12/2017 08:53

*Why would you want to stay though?

I still don't get it. What is the benefit for staying?*

Tariff-free access to the biggest trading bloc in the world, stringent environmental, consumer and employment protection regulations, investment for scientific and medical research, peace in Northern Ireland, the UK being a huge player in the financial services sector, the right to work in any member state, saving loads of money on wine every time you cross the channel ...

and many, many more.

LoveInTokyo · 18/12/2017 08:55

Ha, I really don't care whether you think I'm lying or not.

It's just that when you said "it's not like you're a high ranking civil servant with in depth knowledge about the EU who we should listen to", it was just gloriously ironic because the example you picked (of something that I am not) was so very close to what my last job actually was.

Bit of a tea on screen moment for me over here.

Can't argue with that. Again, Cameron is to blame. (Stupid pig fucking cockwomble.)

Humpsfor20yards · 18/12/2017 09:00

You were talking about the 17 millions leavers being subject to generalizations. Perfectly relevant to bring up remainers being subject to death and rape threats.

(Its funny that generalisations seem to upset you, given your stupid generalisation about Mumsnetters not being much other than Mumsnetters)

You don't get to decide what we talk about here.
'Playing the rape card' makes you sound like a misogynistic twat.

JacquesHammer · 18/12/2017 09:01

Also, why should it matter what chromosomes I have when I'm posting

Stop trying to create a drama. It doesn't matter.

I said I knew because of my experience in male heavy industry.

I could give you a check list as to why your post screams "male" but you wouldn't like it.

Suffice to say it doesn't matter at all. But I've obviously hit a nerve, which is interesting

JacquesHammer · 18/12/2017 09:03

Which only confirms the suspicion that yours is a vote based on emotions rather than evidence and facts

Yup you're right. How good of you with your "Y chromosome" to help us out here. How foolish to think that we could know about fact rather than emotion.

Hmm
