Caked in makeup

Why do some women plaster it on like there's no tomorrow, on the school run, everyday without fail. Not just subtle but full on caked in the stuff. AIBU to think why?

OP posts:

If I could ask a question about this.

Do people think 'made up' faces look better than natural faces?

I don't wear make up so know this must colour my opinion but I think people look a lot worse with it. It's such an odd idea in the first place, to do colouring in on your face.

finnmcool · 16/12/2017 23:05

I wear heavy foundation to cover the scars I got after I was beaten and raped.
I couldn't give a fuck what some judgemental twat with nothing else in their brain thinks about my makeup choices Grin

Maybe it's just that people who don't wear make-up are better looking? Afterall, I say people look much better (to me) without it but I wouldn't have seen them without make-up, I find it hard to believe they'd look worse without it.

rightknockered · 16/12/2017 23:09

I wear make up every day if I'm leaving the house, school run, supermarket, etc. Sometimes to hide another sleepless night, sometimes just because I want to. I don't leave the house without tidying up my hair and wearing clean presentable clothes either.
Don't get why it's a problem.

user1492877024 · 16/12/2017 23:09

Why are you bothered by it? Why do some women where no make up on the school run without fail? Does it really matter?

Arscal · 16/12/2017 23:10

KenDodd I think it depends on the face! I think my face looks better with makeup so I wear makeup when I want to look better.

ProseccoMamam · 16/12/2017 23:19

Maybe they haven't learnt how to do make up properly

Maybe they're trying to cover up bad skin

Maybe they don't want strangers on the Internet pointing out insecurities

It's just something you don't comment on really isn't it, the same as you wouldn't start a thread pointing out someone's disability or someone's dress sense or scars/spots/braces. It's nice to be nice OP, the person in question probably doesn't give a flying fuck about your opinion on her make up anyway

TooManyPaws · 16/12/2017 23:20

Just remembered - I have had a scar on my face since I was about 8 months old where my lower lip was ripped off and sewn back on. I've never thought to hide it as it only goes down my chin but it's one reason I never wear more than lip gloss ever due to the distortion of my lip. There's a birthmark on my nose and again I really can't be arsed, though I do occasionally put some foundation and powder just on the open acne sores to help dry them up.

I like to play with makeup if I go out, same way as I play with clothes. Do I want to be a Goth tonight, a hippy, a classic Hollywood queen? Just another mask to put on.

clumsyduck · 16/12/2017 23:22

Because if I don't people assume I have been struck down with some kind of plague Grin

No seriously my make up is very natural looking I'd love to be able to do that really glam look but I'm rubbish at doing make up I couldn't be bothered every morning though no way !

I guess some people just like it and it's their thing

PodgeBod · 16/12/2017 23:22

I sent this to my sister earlier OP it might help you as well Grin

People are misunderstanding the OP. She's not asking why do women wear makeup - she wears makeup herself. She's asking why some women are 'caked' in it i.e. they put a very thick layer on.
I wonder myself too and I suppose it can only be that they think it looks good. I know someone who does this and I personally don't like the way she looks close up, but she actually looks great in photos. Thick makeup can look bad close up and in natural daylight, but good on TV and in photos.

This is an interesting point. I wonder if a heavier makeup look (especially in young women) is influenced by the ubiquity of selfies for social media? I have definitely noticed that the kind of discreet makeup I'd consider normal for me doesn't really show up in photographs.

DonkeyOaty · 16/12/2017 23:24

Well thanks very much. Now I want cake Angry

clumsyduck · 16/12/2017 23:24

Agree with that bit of fun

On nights out when I see the pics I don't look like I'm wearing make up at all but I deffo am !

pinyata · 16/12/2017 23:24

I have PCOS and I wear a full face of make up whenever I leave the house because I use a full coverage foundation to hide male pattern hair growth.

When I wear a full coverage foundation I need to put on a full face because it looks odd if not.

tiddliewinkiewoo · 16/12/2017 23:26

I LOVE my make up - I wouldn't put the rubbish out without it - would be like I was was 'naked'. Shock

I don't have low self esteem - I know I'm attractive. I just love make up and I look lush without it but moreso with :) I use concealer (my skin is flawless) foundation, powder, blusher, eyeshadow, brow pencil, lipstick, lip pencil etc - just about everything!

The only people I've found IRL (not MN) that criticise another's appearance whether it be 'caked' in make up or not is - to be blunt- less attractive people.

Tors33 · 16/12/2017 23:27

It's a confidence thing like wearing sunglasses when u got a hangover women get judged with or without makeup I'd rather be judged with makeup on rather than no makeup

WorraLiberty · 16/12/2017 23:28

People are misunderstanding the OP. She's not asking why do women wear makeup - she wears makeup herself. She's asking why some women are 'caked' in it i.e. they put a very thick layer on.

I assume it's because they want to? Confused

One person's OTT is another person's understated and that goes for just about anything.

ladystarkers · 16/12/2017 23:29

Hmm why do some women wear none?

WorraLiberty · 16/12/2017 23:32

I admit I haven't read the full thread but has anyone blamed men yet?

You know, I mean rather than the seemingly constant interest/criticism from women, towards women , that seems to be prevalent right across the internet from chat forums, to blogs, to online newspapers/magazines?

Italiangreyhound · 16/12/2017 23:33

finnmcool I'm so sorry to hear this. Thanks

rightknockered · 16/12/2017 23:34

There is a school mum who regularly comments on my clothes and make up, how thin I look, and how many pairs of shoes/boots I must own. Some people have nothing better to think about than other peoples' business

rightknockered · 16/12/2017 23:36

Was thinking the same thing Worra

haveacupoftea · 16/12/2017 23:36

It's just the trend at the moment.

Tors33 · 16/12/2017 23:39

I've got plenty ov mates who cake it on n it's still confidence thy had bad skin in school thru bad acne they was bullied thru it n carried it to adulthood
