Caked in makeup

Why do some women plaster it on like there's no tomorrow, on the school run, everyday without fail. Not just subtle but full on caked in the stuff. AIBU to think why?

I luxuriate in my freedom to choose

Nicely put. I like living in a world where I get to do whatever I want with my face and body depending on how I feel of a morning or evening. Not much bothered what anyone thinks.

Frequency · 16/12/2017 21:05

Why do you cake makeup on for a night out? Caked on never looks good.

Invest in some makeup lessons. Most colleges offer short courses.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/12/2017 21:06

I think there's a wider point that is interesting about why such dramatic and OTT make up has become the norm for a large proportion of young women these days; false eyelashes, sharpie brows, heavy contouring etc.
Women can do whatever they want with make up as far as I'm concerned, but I must admit I am slightly saddened by the almost draggy look some women have going on. It feels like we've accepted that beautiful equals a sort of hypersexualised look that is almost exclusively what conforms to a lot of men's ideas of female beauty.

HintBean · 16/12/2017 21:07

@LadyOfTheCanyon yes yes yes.

Ijustlovefood · 16/12/2017 21:09

Ok I don't cake it on I just mean if I am going to do full makeup then it's usually on a night out

I personally only feel comfortable leaving the house with a full face on, I feel incredibly ugly and self conscious without it, it's my mask.

Don't judge people, you never know the backstory.

ForalltheSaints · 16/12/2017 21:11

I think it is something particular to the UK, as you do not see the same in the Netherlands or France, both of which I visit at least once a year.

Ijustlovefood · 16/12/2017 21:11

I'm not judging just wondering really as I just don't have the time or really can't be bothered to make the time

I'm what you would describe as "caked in makeup". I apply a full face every day because I love how it looks, I enjoy applying it and it makes me feel immeasurably more confident than going about my business bare faced. And I don't give a shit what anyone thinks about my outward appearance!

Lethaldrizzle · 16/12/2017 21:12

I've always thought lots of make-up was a sign of insecurity

BestZebbie · 16/12/2017 21:14

I think if you are into makeup it must be very easy to a) watch lots of you tube that makes you think that wearing 15 products at once is the basic standard for a finished face and b) know advanced techniques that require five different products each rather than just one.

EleanorXx · 16/12/2017 21:15

Why does it matter?

alltalknobaby · 16/12/2017 21:16

"I'm not judging"

Yes. Yes, you are. Mind your own business.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/12/2017 21:17

My DD wears 'full face' ( I am staggered by the number of products that she uses daily) .
She doesn't 'need' to she is 15.6yo and blessed with good skin (the odd blemish now and then) , long eyelahes and good brows.

She wears a 'No Make-up ' make-up , you'd have to look close.
She has the time to do it ( not rushing off to work like me , in no make up)

It harms no-one including laboratory animals , DD uses cruelty free.

If someone was so rude as to ask her, I'd tell them to Do One.

Afternooncatnap · 16/12/2017 21:20

I wear make up every day. I don't plaster it on like a Kardashian, but it is full face, except for in summer when I have a tan. Then it's just eyes.

I'm really pale so look ill and dead without it, and I hate looking in the mirror and feeling a mess and minging.

If your happy and confident enough to not wear it then good for you but don't judge others who arn't.

blueshoes · 16/12/2017 21:20

Agree with LadyOfTheCanyon.

The look is very Kardashian and selfie-obsessed on young women who don't need all that makeup to look good.

ohtheholidays · 16/12/2017 21:21

Alot of the women and girls that I've known that put alot of make-up on(caked as you put it OP)was because of a lack of self confidence, for some they hated they're skin, for others they suffered with anxiety and felt that wearing alot of make-up hid them from the outside world,it was they're mask(they're words not mine)sometimes when it's really young girls and women it's because putting on make-up is new to them so they're not quite sure how much they should use.

I choose not to judge!

itsallrelative2017 · 16/12/2017 21:21

I wear a full face of makeup every day for work and it's neither to hide bad skin nor because I'm insecure or under confident.

I happen to like how flawless my skin looks with a good foundation, the way the right contour can slim my face and highlighter accentuates my cheekbones, how a good eyeliner makes my eyes look wider open and the right shadow accentuates my eye colour.

Go figure.

Blackteadrinker77 · 16/12/2017 21:22

Personal choice

I personally choose to wear none at all so I must be ugly according to @chiaseed

Gemini69 · 16/12/2017 21:22

does the OP feel the same about women who BlowDry and style their hair every day ?

userofthiswebsite · 16/12/2017 21:23

Because not everyone is blessed with naturally stunning complexions.

Think yourself lucky that you are in a position where you don't need to concern yourself with such things.

BlazingPaddles · 16/12/2017 21:24

Because they want to. Because the natural look isn't their thing.

violetbunny · 16/12/2017 21:24

I don't really get your reasoning re going on a night out. Don't you also usually change other things for a night out anyway? Different clothes and shoes, maybe a different hairstyle? I certainly don't just change my makeup if I'm going somewhere nice.

ohtheholidays · 16/12/2017 21:26

GG23 I don't know you but I bet you are far from ugly. Flowers

KenForPM · 16/12/2017 21:26

If people want to wear makeup, that’s their prerogative. I just wonder how people have the time in the morning to put on a full face!! Unless they get up v early or something.
