Trump thread # 100 “Cannot you see that I, too, have a tall and beautiful person?”

Roman Emperor Nero wrote the above in a manual titled ‘Care of the Hair’. Nero was tyrannical, vain and cruel, and thought little of the lives of others. He also liked to erect buildings and carve his name into them. Smile if only we could learn well from the past.

Ups, "now", not "not".

Maddow did a great segment on McGahn and obstruction of justice. It’s pretty clear there’s intent with the obstruction of justice. When mueller presents his findings, what are the gop going to do?

Oh Pain, if only...

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 22/12/2017 10:53

Sorry, it isn’t very clear - I didn’t mean to imply Mueller was going to conclude the investigation any time soon, particularly as his office has said it will still take awhile. I just wonder what will happen if he’s allowed to continue unimpeded and does come to the conclusion there’s been obstruction of justice - what will the gop do then? Ignore the findings as partisan trickery? Actually be relieved they have a chance to depose trump? It’s a long way off and who knows if we’ll even get there but we’re learning more and more information that strengthens the case for obstruction, which might make it harder for them to ignore (I hope that’s not too optimistic)

Lweji · 22/12/2017 10:54

Mueller will have to keep the investigation going at least until the current batch at Congress is replaced, won't he?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 22/12/2017 10:59

Rosenstein could be replaced by someone who deems the investigation to be straying beyond its remit and hamper it that way, and it’s within trump’s power to do that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2017 11:57

Isn't today the day that 'something' is supposed to happen?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 22/12/2017 12:20

A democrat senator said there were rumours he was going to fire mueller today (though he can’t actually do that - Rod Rosenstein would have to).

Just so blatant with the gaslighting

The way I see it Mueller's got two ways to do this in order for his report to get a fair hearing.

1-He's going to have to keep the investigation going until January 2019 (the midterms are November, but they aren't sworn in until January) hoping for a Dem return to majority. This is a gamble as election returns aren't guaranteed. We all pray for a Blue Wave, but it's not a foregone conclusion (unfortunately).
OR
2-He's going to have to have such overwhelming and undeniable evidence of direct collusion by Scrotus (thereby removing 'plausible deniability) that even a GOP run Congress cannot deny it. Nixon lost the GOP support in the House because of direct evidence (the tapes), which was what finally convinced him to resign. It will have to be the same with Scrotus.

Personally, I'm willing to wager Mueller's going with option 2. Which will hopefully create such a big pile of #2 for Scrotus that he will have to resign or that the GOP majority will have no choice but to impeach.

From lionheart's link:

She and host Joy Reid discussed the bizarre turn-around of Sen. Lindsey Graham who went from calling Trump a “kook” to attacking the media for trying to “label the guy some kind of kook not fit to be president.”

The uncomfortably effusive praise of Trump by Vice President Mike Pence and members of the cabinet, as well as an unctuous speech by long-serving Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) led Kendzior to speculate that Trump might even be blackmailing some officials.

“The RNC was hacked,” Kendzior said. “We don’t know what happened with those e-mails. We know that Lindsey Graham’s personal e-mails were also hacked and we know that Trump has a long track record of blackmailing and threatening those who he sees as his political opponents. That goes back throughout his entire career.”

PerkingFaintly · 22/12/2017 13:28

What keeps coming back to me is what Trump's biographer, Michael D'Antonio, said about Trump's machinations even before he stood for office.

That after you've been in Trump's orbit for a while, you're contaminated. There are little things that you've let go unchallenged, because amid so much outrageousness you have to pick your battles, and then Trump turns round and claims you agreed with him about those little things. So if he's guilty, you must be too.

And he uses it to draw people further and further in. Very much fingers-caught-in-the-machine stuff.

D'Antonio also talks about Trump family members who sound like classic enablers of an abuser - hardly surprising when they were children growing up with one. They constantly justify, normalise and try to explain away his actions, and his beliefs and delusions become their truth which they propagate uncritically.

Here are the links to D'Antonio's tapes, if anyone who missed them before is interested:

Thanks perking. That does seem plausible. After reading the numerous threads about narcissists on here, it is unbelievably galling that trump’s delusions weren’t shattered by reality but rewarded with the presidency of America. It really rankles.

I missed this from yesterday
