I’m 39 next month. Would love another child but need IVF. Send me your stories to give me hope that I’m not too old and it will work!

I had my last at 50 with a donated egg as well as sperm, and have no regrets at all. I currently have a delightful and very happy 6 year old. I also have 4 young adult children who play a big part in the family.

IVF at your age using your own eggs is a very long shot indeed. I haven't found that it's mattered at all that my last baby wasn't from my own egg. He's still very much mine.

Sorry posted too soon, a couple of friends late 30's have had pregnancies through IVF which has been so lovely for them. Good luck OP Smile

5 days before my 44th birthday.

InsomniacAnonymous · 10/12/2017 22:37

37, my first and last.

Yanbu.

mishfish · 10/12/2017 22:38

I had my third at 27, but only because I had my first at 20 and decided I wanted babies out of the way so I could focus on career from 30 onwards.

If I hadn’t have become pregnant so young to begin with, I think I’d have waited until 32/33 to start and have 3 in as quick a succession as I could

Ginseng1 · 10/12/2017 22:43

43 a surprise 3rd after 7 years. Its been fantastic-easiest of the 3 n we all cracked about her! we can forget about early retirement though :)

why12345 · 10/12/2017 22:46

First at 25 last at 28.

Cyclingforcake · 10/12/2017 22:47

I don’t think anyone in my circle of friends had babies younger than their 30s. Many are still having babies in their early 40s - some natural, some with help. In my NCT group, 4 if us had our 40th birthday before our babies were 1. I hate that so many women are made to feel anxious unnecesarily about their fertility in their late 20s and early 30s. (I know some have a real reason to be concerned) On the other hand don’t leave it too late. Perimenopausal is not a good time to try and conceive your first.

Cyclingforcake · 10/12/2017 22:48

Oh and ivf at 39 using your own eggs is not a long shot. It’s the norm.

RockinHippy · 10/12/2017 22:52

@ Almost 42

UterusUterusGhali · 10/12/2017 22:53

I had a patient deliver in her 50's a while ago.
Lovely family. :)

MsHarry · 10/12/2017 22:54

Oh wow uterus how wonderful.

And thanks to everyone who has wished me luck.

I agree with Cyclingforcake
Our IVF consultant (at the Lister if you're interested) said that at my age, 39, with one previous child and decent AMH that I had pretty good chances - about 1 in 3 (that's about as good as it gets in IVF) and that most patients there were well into 40s or older. I was young relatively speaking, for a private ivf patient or so they told me.

IrrationalFamily · 10/12/2017 22:57

3rd and last at 39.

A PP said that being an older mum might mean she won't get to meet her grandchildren.

This is a concern for me as both my mum and maternal grandmother died in their early 60s. It's a massive regret my mum isn't around to know her grandchildren.

A friend had her first at 46. I think having a teenager in your 60s might be tough.....

MsHarry · 10/12/2017 22:57

What's AMH?

MsHarry · 10/12/2017 22:58

It might be easier, more patience, a more laid back view having been there, seen it done it. It all depends on the child and so many other factors, age guarantees nothing.

LondonGirl83 · 10/12/2017 23:06

33 for my first and only so far. One of my closest friends will be 41 with her last-- she is currently pregnant with her 2nd. She was 38 with her first. Good luck!

lalliella · 10/12/2017 23:56

I was 39 and had IVF, well ICSI actually, it’s got more chance of success. Not a long shot by any means. Good luck OP.

ladybirdsaredotty · 11/12/2017 05:22

First at just 30, third (a few weeks ago) at just 36. I seem to have had my children earlier than most people I know, though. Many are just starting now in their mid 30s or later. My friend had her last (IVF, donated egg) at 48.

As an aside, my partner is a fair few years older than me and we have been incredibly lucky in conceiving 4 times (had 1 early mc) in a total of 5 months of trying ever. He was 48 the last time.

Good luck, OP.

UAEMum · 11/12/2017 05:50

I had my last child one month before my 40th

Juanbablo · 11/12/2017 05:51

I was 26. Dh would like one more but I'm 30 next month and feel my child bearing days are over.

Gennz18 · 11/12/2017 05:57

Currently pregnant with second and hopefully last (I find pregnancy a challenge) aged 36 - will be 3 months shy of 37 when s/he arrives.

So I'm not very remarkable - however my gran had her 7th at 40, and her mother had her ninth at 45.

Anecdotally 40+ pregnancies seem to be quite common (my ancestors are extreme examples). Wishing you all the luck in the world Flowers
