I’m 39 next month. Would love another child but need IVF. Send me your stories to give me hope that I’m not too old and it will work!

I had Number 3 at 37.

But my sister had her first and second (twins) at almost 43.

I think it's harder being older - not necessarily because you're more tired, but almost because you've had 20+ child free years (in her case, used to luxuries, having lots of 'me' time, lots of couple time, possibly relatively senior so difficult to take a step back) but if you've already got children, that's less of a problem.

Good luck!

HardHatForTesco · 10/12/2017 20:19

I had dc2 two weeks after my 40th.

WeaselsRising · 10/12/2017 20:19

2 months short of 44. A friend was 47 when she had her last one.

PugwallsSummer · 10/12/2017 20:20

38

hazeyjane · 10/12/2017 20:20

I had my first at 37 (after a loooong road) and my 3rd at 41.

Tortycat · 10/12/2017 20:22

41 + 1 month for dc2

BelligerentGardenPixies · 10/12/2017 20:23

Just shy of 37. I know plenty of first time mums in their 40's though.

redfairy · 10/12/2017 20:26

I 'add' my last at 34 but this was a 'surprise'. I really thought I'd finished after having one at 18 and another at 21. I'm a bit Shock at the thought of childbirth in my forties.

dementedma · 10/12/2017 20:27

38 for dc 3

Nomad86 · 10/12/2017 20:29

2nd at 29 but none of my friends that age have kids. My DC parents are all much older.

StepAwayFromGoogle · 10/12/2017 20:29

I'm pregnant with my last, OP, I'll be 41 yrs 8 months when I give birth. Was 38 when I had my first x

twinkledag · 10/12/2017 20:30

Sorry just spotted typo in title!

Smellybluecheese · 10/12/2017 20:32

41, nearly 42

MrsHarveySpecterV · 10/12/2017 20:34

I had first at 31, currently pregnant with number 3, I'm 34. Think this will be our last. A lot of my friends either haven't had babies yet or have just had their first. Good luck if you decide to try for another :)

kimlo · 10/12/2017 20:43

27

Beek84 · 10/12/2017 20:48

I had my first at 31 - she is almost 2 and I'd love another 2 or 3 if we can!

If it helps, my mum had me ( her second and last) at 44. She had my brother at 41. I never felt growing up that I had an 'old' mum - and it's a lot more common now than it was 30 years ago to have children in your forties. For what it's worth, my mum will be 78 next, has loads of energy still and is a glamorous granny to my DD. Good luck OP!

fingersandthumbs · 10/12/2017 20:48

I will be 48, currently 6 months pregnant with a surprise. I had my first at 29.

BeautifulLiar · 10/12/2017 20:49

I had four DC by 26.

28 now and with a new DP

So will probably be in my 30s when we have one

MrsCharlieD · 10/12/2017 20:49

I had my second and last at 34. I know plenty of mum's who've only Just started their families in their early 40s.

mrspatel77 · 10/12/2017 20:49

I had IVF in April last year aged 39, I am due in 3 weeks time with our little miracle x I'm 40 now and never felt so good!

Brummiegirl15 · 10/12/2017 20:49

I was 41, had my first at 39

ILoveMillhousesDad · 10/12/2017 20:50

I have found this thread very interesting. I am 40. Have 1 dd who is 9, but I have become so very broody lately. My younger sister has a dd who is nearly 2 and I think this has added to my broodiness. The only thing putting me off is my age tbh.

Fourfantasicfrogs · 10/12/2017 20:51

5 days short of 43. First at 39.

Movablefeast · 10/12/2017 20:51

Had my third last at 37 almost 38. Miscarriaged at 40.

mrspatel77 · 10/12/2017 20:52

I honestly think age is not a barrier, I've been healthy and active throughout and had less issues than some of the younger ladies I have met.
Don't let age be a barrier, you will be a great mum at 40 or 20! Makes no difference x
