To ask how old you were when you add your last child?

I’m 39 next month. Would love another child but need IVF. Send me your stories to give me hope that I’m not too old and it will work!

DGM was 41 in 1961 when she had her last of 6.

4th was born 7 weeks ago, I'm 33.
If my births had gone differently I'd try again for another 2 in 4/5 years.

First at 36

27. Pretty average at the time I think.

40+13 days. I was hoping he’d come a little early so I could say I had him at 39 but he hung on until the last minute! Still, he’s healthy, happy, and makes me laugh out loud every day.

Almost 44 when I had DS4 (I was 37 when I had DS1).

There's no denying biology and some risks do go up with maternal age but they are somewhat overstated.

37 when I had ds, currently 13 weeks at 40 (baby due eight weeks before my 41st birthday).

My maternal Grandmother was 40, her sister was 42, one of my aunts was 41 and one of my Great Grandmother's was 46!

19. I too wouldn't want one any older. Won't be having any more! Sod that.

But that's not because anything above 19 is too old, obviously I just don't want the whole baby/child rearing stage all over again when I'm 35+.

I want that part of my life for just me and DH

Had my first at 38 and now pregnant with second (will be 39 by EDD)

39. 3 MC since.

I've just had my 2nd baby at 33, we plan to have another, the cut off in my head is before I turn 37. One of my relations had her first (and second) at 46, she'd been trying for over 20 years, had countless goes at ivf, it worked pretty much on their last go, amazing!

My first at 21, 2nd at 25 and 3rd at 27. Then a ‘surprise’ at 44! I found it so much easier with my 4th as I had so much more patience and view her as a precious gift.

35. A good friend had her second and last child at 46.

42 and 6 months with ivf (3rd time lucky!)

Very easy pregnancy, never looked or felt so good!
Have aged somewhat since though!!!

My aunt had her last at 43, and another at 39.
Women are having babies later and later in life for a myriad of reasons.. don't let it put you off, good luck xx

Is it the age you conceive or have the child that matters in terms of fertility?

Ie does being 39 when you conceive and being 40 when you give birth make a difference to being 40 when you conceive and give birth?

Had my second a few months ago at 38. Almost certainly won’t have any more but not for reasons to do with age. At my central hospital / compared to NCT group (with first) I didn’t feel old at all. If I wanted a big family I would be hoping to keep going well into my 40s.

I had my third & last child at 33.

29 for first, 31 for second. Currently 40 and broooooooooody.

One week before my 37th birthday.

I have friends who've had babies well into their 40's, one friend was late 40's (IVF and frozen egg, I believe, but I've never directly asked about them logistics).

42.5. Was my third and IVF didn't work but something called G.I.F.T. did. And she is literally a GIFT. She's 14 now and I'm 56, which sounds old, but I don't feel as old as that number looks on the screen! All the other school mums are at least 10 years younger than me and they think I'm the same age . I wouldn't change a thing although I do worry that I might never really know my grandchildren. I had my first at 25, second at 26, third at 27 and last at 29. This was very fortunate for me as I had an early menopause (38).

39 when we had our surprise 3rd baby and it was twins.
Good luck. We were in shock but it’s been lovely.
You won’t regret it.

Second DD at 31.
Always wanted to have adult DC and mortgage finished by 50.
Most of my friends are only starting on their 1st now at late 30's.
