AIBU,to report a pub to police ,and will police even give a shit?

I was sure there was a think 24 policy in place,where if you looked under 24 you didn't get served....well I just spent the whole night looking after my paralytic 16 yr old dc who came home having been served in a pub...in fact dc spent the whole evening in pub repeatedly getting served...this was a Xmas party for a sports club,with the club manager there as well,supposedly looking after the kids, I stupidly thought.granted dc shouldn't of tried to get served,but shouldn't pubs be asking for id ?

How old does your son look?

Did he definitely get served or was he getting other people to buy drinks for him?

Pub should be checking ID yes, not sure it's the police you report to or not. Definitely go ape shit at the sports club. I'm assuming dc is associated with the sports club and didn't just wonder in?

Surely your child knows they shouldn't buy alcohol? It's as much your fault as anyone else's.

Val...is it my fault??? At 16 ..genuine question..I got pissed at the same age,ended up in hospital,no one suggested it was anyone's fault than my own

Think 24 (or 25) is a policy rather than the law. You can go to the police, I have a feeling they often refer it on to Trading Standards for investigation though, they should be able to advise.

One word of caution though, DS is telling you they served him. This may be because it's easier to admit to an angry mother than admitting one of his mate's who is 18 went to the bar for him all night, or even that he sneaked booze in a friend had bought. If your Mum is on the warpath the last thing you want her doing is bawling out older, cooler mates. Be prepared that the story you're getting might not be true, it would shock me if it was because penalties are so heavy these days.

And really, he's 16. This sort of thing is par for the course for 16 YOs. He'll get over it.

How do you know he bought them? Did you see him buy them? Are you sure he didn't buy cokes and put his own supply in?

Oh sorry just saw it was a sports club IN a pub. I though it was a bar within the sports club like they have in rugby clubs just ignore me...

I'm just shocked no Id was asked for...plus the club having the party has an age in its tital,so everyone knew how old all the kids were..16

I'd report it to the licencing authority which is part of your Local Council - assuming you are in England. They are the people who carry out the checks (where they send in underage people to do test purchases) and who also grant the licence. Not sure the Police would be that interested.

So if all of the club are 16, why the hell did they have a party where alcohol was being served? Definitely the club’s mistake here I think, (and dc’s obviously).

Don’t those under a certain age have to be out of a pub by a certain time? I haven’t got a clue about licensing laws.

I think it’s a really weird choice of venue and not sure why they decided to go there

he was served alright...I do have a tendency to blame everyone except this dc...being honest here ladies...so I've not bollocked anyone other than child so far...I'm also thinking police won't really give a shit,and I will just been seen as one of those mothers clucking about their child..

I help out at a private members club bar and the licensing laws are VERY strict. If you wanted to take it further you could take it up with them. The pub could potentially lose their license, and the person serving could get prosecuted also. So the club manager could be the first point of contact.

My DH is a landlord and he has this exact scenario with sports teams. As far as he’s concerned 1 underaged drinking and the booking is cancelled. Not worth his liscence.
Speak to the police and see where there refer you. Speak to the pub too, if they have any interest in staying open they should take it seriously.

First make sure that he bought them and didn't sneak alcohol in. Might be worth checking the drinks cabinet to see if something is missing. Also make him empty his pockets wallet to see if he has a fake id (some nowadays are almost impossible to know if they are fake).

Local pub here used to serve underage if they were at a party like your son. Often the owner knew the age of the person as they were in his kids classes. Some of the parents had a quiet word with the local gardai. They sent in a underage teen who got served, owner was prosecuted and gardai objected to the renew of his licence.

Was this last night? Just it’s half 4 in the afternoon and if they’re that bad then you might need to get them checked.

Otherwise, if you’re in another country then none of the advice re licensing is relevent
