I mean, I am so so angry with him. How can one man cause so much hate, so many problems, ruin so many good things, and cause such problems in the Middle East.

I hate him. I want to do something, but don't know what. Are there some petitions out there I can sign? Marches I can go on? How do we stand up against this narcissistic, racist bleep bleep bleep who is ruining everything and causing bloodshed???

Want2bSupermum, here's a summary of the tax plan, if that's what you were looking for info about.

www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/11/16/the-house-is-voting-on-its-tax-bill-thursday-heres-what-is-in-it/?utm_term=.654be0555be4

I don't know what will affect you, but maybe this bit:

For the next five years, the vast majority of Americans (92 percent) would either pay less or see little change, according to the official estimates from the Joint Committee on Taxation. But that shifts sharply after five years. In 2023, only 40 percent of Americans would pay less. Twenty-two percent would pay more (the rest see little change), JCT found.

By 2023, a key middle-class tax break expires. Many of the people facing tax hikes are solidly middle class ($40,000 to $75,000) or else in the “upper upper” middle class ($200,000 to $400,000), JCT found. A key savings for the middle class — the Family Flexibility Credit — goes away after 2022. The House bill also uses a low measure of inflation after 2022, meaning more and more people start to jump from the 12 percent tax bracket to the 25 percent bracket (which starts to kick in at $67,500 for heads of households).

Am reading Hilary's book "What Happened".

Sorry but I think Hilary was a good candidate. She is convinced her campaign hobbled by the Russians. The sheer hypocrisy of how the Trump campaign went on and on and on and on and on about those bloody emails whilst doing things x1000 times worse themselves (colluding with a hostile foreign power and proudly sexually harrassing women).

For me what's scarier than Trump as an individual is the fact that millions of people voted him in!

The Congressional Budget Office (neutral body which assesses financial impact of legislation) predicts the tax bill will increase the US deficit by more than $1.4 trillion over a decade.
thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/362905-cbo-senate-tax-bill-increases-deficit-by-14-trillion

Big tax cuts for the very rich though, and will benefit businesses which have offshored production.

Does anyone remember that Divine Comedy song ‘generation sex’?

“Generation sex elects the type of guy you wouldn’t leave your kids with”

I always think of this when I think about Trump.

I think the worst thing about him is his stance on climate change. He’ll probably go down in history as a villain. Will he care though? Probably not. If there’s a God, maybe He / She will deal with him one day.

"She is convinced her campaign hobbled by the Russians."

I think time will prove she is right - sooner or later it will all come out.

"I think you need a decent level of intelligence to get into the White House."

  • Or to be very rich (or have a v rich daddy).

  • Or to have a daddy who was president (George W Bush)

  • Or to collude with the Russians... which is seems pretty certain was the case.

You know who hate Trump in America? The rich and the privileged, the mega-rich celebrities and the affluent middle class. You know why? Because their lives are protected and not affected by mass immigration, unemployment, minimal wage, street crime and all that shit.
Typical example is the Hollywood elite. They live in a bubble far removed from the everyday realities of mundane life. They all employ Mexican immigrant household staff from nannies, chauffeurs, cooks, cleaners, housekeepers, gardeners etc..and they don't pay tax and health insurance after them! Trump is exactly after these people ( illegal immigrants) so the Hollywood elite hate him for that. And they just generally hate him because they live in their protected little bubble and have no idea about real life.

My pet theory is that people watched Apprentice, and thought 'hey, he's a good businessman - let's have him run America like a business" - sort of believing his own "businessman" hype - and forgetting (or never realising) that he is, in fact, a cheat and a fraud, who has been bankrupt, who has refused to pay honest people for their services, and who has sexually assaulted women and bragged about it. It blows my mind that he is president.

Of course, there's also the KKK, alt-right, white supremacist votes that he picked up as well.

But as we all know, even then, he didn't manage to get as many votes as Hilary. She got 3 million more votes than him - so I think it's more than the Hollywood elite who hate him.

Good point, JoanLenin. I particularly admire the way Trump is supporting poor people by making huge tax cuts for the rich. Abolishing legislation that protects working people will also make life much better for the poor.

Is that like a bot post? Mega-rich folk support Trump, especially raising limits of inheritance tax so high.

Rex Tillerson

Steve Mnuchen and Louise Linton
Betsy DeVos

and cabinet billionaires whose names I easily forget.

Hmm Trump deliberately hires foreign staff for his businesses, so he can pay less.

www.mypalmbeachpost.com/business/trump-again-hires-foreign-workers-for-mar-lago-little-change-pay/NtHozFcFMZXQWVkErxSdhM/

Trump won approval to hire 64 foreign workers through the federal government’s H-2B visa program, according to newly released data from the U.S. Labor Department. This past year, Trump was allowed to hire 69 foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago.

While wage growth finally has begun to accelerate in the nation’s slow-to-recover job market — annual raises reached 2.5 percent for the 12 months ending in November — Trump is holding firm on pay.

The U.S. Department of Labor gave Trump permission to hire 19 cooks at $12.74 an hour, down from $13.01 an hour this past year.

Mar-a-Lago also plans to hire 30 waiters and waitresses at $11.13 an hour (up from $10.99 an hour this past year) and 15 housekeepers at $10.17 an hour, up from $10.07 an hour this past year.
...
CareerSource Palm Beach County, a nonprofit job placement agency, says it knows plenty of American citizens willing to work at Mar-a-Lago.

think you need a decent level of intelligence to get into the White House. I expect that he will get a second term like Ronald Reagan and George W? You do realise George W was a laughing stock for his lack of intelligence don't you? Reagan surrounded himself with intelligent people and was friends with Margaret thatcher, who had enough intellegence and personality for both of them.

As a American I don’t bother watching the news any more. I am not a supporter I voted Johnson last time round. (Libertarian) it was clear to me that Trump was going to win and there in lies the problem because you don't watch the news your believing that he has any validity or sense, but I guess this shouldn't be just aimed at you. I have a British friend who tells me she doesn't really bother with the news and she's fairly unaware of the political &international ramifications of what this man does. So many seem to be

The issue seems to be that the world has lost the ability to debate politics. Instead the liberals denounce anyone who doesn’t agree as racist. Therefore conservatives keep there opinions to themselves and wait for the privacy of the voting booth

While I agree that there are some on the left that are very keen to call racism, to be honest normally justified, have you see the trump supporters social media there's far far more your vile vile name calling and deogratry posts about the left coming from the extreme republicans than there is left people calling out prejudice.

As to joanlenins post well done for reading his propaganda and being completely and uttterly taken in by it. You seem very angry Joan. I think there's this growing reverse snobbery look at them in Hollywood/nottinghill/London with their money looking down on us we hate them for having money! Donald Trump a man with gold doors is the man living bubble. How many normal people do you meet with gold elevator doors? He was privately educated, inherited his money from a very rich daddy, money that seemed impossible to loose yet has been bankrupt 6 times. This is a man in touch with the people you talk about is he? He's about as much a man of the people as former investment banker Nigel Farage is!

I am thinking more the General population rather than people in the public eye. The friends around the dinner table who just nod in agreement as they don’t eat to say how they truly feel.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions

I lived in the UK for 30 years before moving to the USA. I don’t worry about global politics because I have plenty of other important stuff to worry about. Like do we have enough firewood to get through winter, and why the chickens have stopped laying —freeloaders—

Personally the tax plan is going to be a big help to us the extra $120 a month will make a difference.

It's funny that you say that, but you're the one who posts things that you can't substantiate, you're the one who doesn't bother with the news, you're the one who feels compelled to offer your opinions but actually you don't really care.

I think you're right though, people with deliberate no knowledge of history/politics are in many ways responsible for the mess in the uk and the USA that ultimately will make their/our lives worse.

But hey.
