AIBU to think if you cement your head into a microwave you should be fined by emergency services?

I've just seen on Twitter the news about the YouTuber who put his head into a microwave & then filled it full of poly filler.. Hmm
West Midlands fire service have posted a video basically saying every time they respond to stunts like this they are obviously then not able to go to actual emergencies & this call out would have cost £650.

Aibu to think if someone does something as stupid as this they should be fined?

I've watched the YouTubers response video & whilst he says thanks to the emergency crews, I don't actually think he seems all that apologetic..

I remember a couple of years ago another you tuber threw himself off Tower Bridge for a bet & had to be rescued, he then raised quite a bit of money for the lifeboat charity as thanks.

YANBU

They should be heavily fined

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 08/12/2017 22:15

I just watched this a few minutes ago, what an absolute fucking moron. Should absolutely be fined. I’d go so far as to say a police caution if something similar was repeated.

Yes the same for anyone ringing ambulances for alcohol related stuff and minor things like ear ache etc

meredintofpandiculation · 08/12/2017 22:18

He's planning to make a voluntary donation. And youtube have "demonetarised" his vlog so he won't make any money from it. But where do you draw the line? There's a continuum from "completely unnecessary" through "avoidable accident" to "could have happened to anyone".

EB123 · 08/12/2017 22:20

They should be cautioned for wasting emergency services time and fined. Absolutely ridiculous.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/12/2017 22:21

I thought in certain circumstances you could be presented with the bill for emergency services use, is that right? Because if so, this is definitely one of those times. I heard the fire service representative on the radio earlier and he was far far more balanced and calm than I would have been tbh. He said that because the twat was actually genuinely in danger, they won’t be charging but that he’d like to think he might offer to donate the money to them. And then some!

ElvisIsAliveAndLivingInHull · 08/12/2017 22:22

I saw that. Stupid fucking arrogant dickhead!

When the news reporter said 'are you sorry or regretful?' he said 'nah, it was a laugh and people need to get over it. Having a go at me, lighten up!'

People have having a go because the stupid little fucker cost the taxpayer around £500, and took the fire brigade away from people who needed them, (who aren't stupid cunts like he is.)

All the arrogant little shit said is 'you lot should check out my youtube channel!'

Errr, how about NO you little fuckwit.

Next time, they should refuse to help the dense little twat, and let nature take its course!

People do very stupid things because people are very stupid. He's an idiot, no doubt about it, but I don't want anyone to be charged for medical care. Because when that starts happening, people do even more stupid things - can you imagine how much it would have cost the NHS if his mates had tried to remove it and seriously injured him? They could have easily killed him all for the sake of avoiding a fine for calling an ambulance out.

(And I believe e.g. businesses can be fined for too many fire service call outs, but I think that's a bit different - it happens, for instance, when people don't maintain their fire alarms properly.)

Coconutspongexo · 08/12/2017 22:25

The fireservice tweeted that they’re unimpressed with this and some of the replies are shocking ‘you’re paid to do your job’ ‘you’re unimpressed because you had to actually work?’ Etc some people are so ignorant it’s actually disgusting.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/12/2017 22:26

I think they are charged, if you are in a road traffic accident and are at fault you do get the bill, so I’d imagine it’s the same for other acts of stupidity.

ElvisIsAliveAndLivingInHull · 08/12/2017 22:28

Lots of people get into a pickle and do daft things and need medical assistance, but most people are humble and apologetic and grateful.

This cunt was arrogant as fuck, and acted like it was his right to do this stupid thing, and then his right to be rescued.

Cunt.

Mmm, I don't agree, I'm sorry. Public services are there for everyone, idiots included.

Whilst I don't disagree with what PPs have said, I do think the free NHS is a wonderful thing and if we're going to charge people because they're stupid/arrogant/silly then it's a slippery slope.

Do we charge drunks because they got drunk?
Do we charge the fat for fat-related illnesses or diseases?
Do we charge those who take drugs? (that includes alcohol and cigarettes as well as all the others)
Do we charge those for are ill from preventable illnesses?

No, we don't. And I'd argue we shouldn't. So, therefore, we need to treat the arrogant and the stupid as well.
This doesn't mean he wasn't wrong to get into that situation. But we'd be wrong to deny him help.

MissTeri · 08/12/2017 22:53

Mmm, I don't agree, I'm sorry. Public services are there for everyone, idiots included I would have agreed with this until I saw his response video. Fuck him, the guy is a waste of space.

Doingthebattybat · 08/12/2017 22:56

YANBU. People who are drunk, drugged, overweight or smokers are often addicted to their drug of choice. As far as I know, jamming your head into a microwave isn’t something people are usually addicted to.

And with the NHS under so much pressure we shouldnt have to waste time and money extricating idiots from their kitchen appliances,

Originalfoogirl · 08/12/2017 22:56

Mmm, I don't agree, I'm sorry. Public services are there for everyone, idiots included.

I agree. If you set your house on fire because you played with matches, should the fire service just let it burn?

Hand the idiots a card with a number for a suggested donation and hope they feel embarrassed enough to make a contribution. Mr Foo got horrendously drunk and passed out when out with friends when we first got together. An ambulance was called, he was revived but didn’t need to go to hospital. I ended up having to rescue him, drive across the city to retrieve his keys and sort it so he could get home, then make sure he was ok for the night, which dragged me away from my night out with my friends. He was wholly apologetic and kept asking how he could ever make it up to me. I told him the only thing he could do was make a donation to the ambulance service.

karmacoma1 · 08/12/2017 22:57

People can get drunk/high and do stupid things requireing the help of emergency services.

But this on another level.

He should be made to pay.

Doingthebattybat · 08/12/2017 23:01

Ok they are there for everyone but I agree wanton idiocy should be chargeable.
