I don't understand the hype about Yorkshire?

Is it just me to be fed up with continuous hype about Yorkshire?

TV programmes devoted to the county etc etc. I spent some time up there recently and feel the South West, where I'm from, has far more to offer.

Yorkshire is vastly bigger than any other counties and has huge cultural and historic significance.

Queenie64 · 08/12/2017 21:39

hate how these threads turn into a competition ...I am a very proud Londoner, love London, and also adore the rest of the country...every part has something unique to offer, a personality of it's own, no region is better than any other, and there is more than enough beauty in our country as a whole to appeal everyone...

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 08/12/2017 21:39

*I want to get shagged by a Yorkshireman.

Just say 'ey up cock' to a lively looking one*

Can confirm.*

Yes, this ^. Just find one you like the look of, they're very easy.

caitlinohara · 08/12/2017 21:40

When I was first dating my now husband, I told him he was perfect in every way except for the fact that he wasn't from Yorkshire. Grin

BeanoNoir · 08/12/2017 21:42

You do know its pretty big, more like 4 counties really, and lots of major cities and towns. It's also amazing and the only place have lived where I can stay in the county and go on amazing holidays to multiple places: dales, wolds, moors, coast, cities.

Rudgie47 · 08/12/2017 21:42

I live in Yorkshire and theres some very beautiful places but theres some really rough dumps as well.Like everywhere I think.

MattBerrysHair · 08/12/2017 21:44

YABU! I'm from the Yorkshire Dales originally and I'd give my right arm to live there again. Driving down from Leyburn towards Middleham on a summer's evening makes my heart burst in my chest, it's that beautiful! The hype is well deserved.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 08/12/2017 21:44

What hype? Please do explain where you feel this hype is coming from.

Mondy · 08/12/2017 21:45

I'm from Yorkshire and I love it. Ironically, my second favourite area of the country is the south-west, which is lovely.

flingingmelon · 08/12/2017 21:45

I'm from Yorkshire.

I moved down south.

Much prefer it down here.

runs away cackling

AmysTiara · 08/12/2017 21:45

I like Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Yorkshire and Lancashire

Easily pleased I am.

Op definitely works for one of the yorkshire tourist boards, knew we’d all take exception and do her job for her. Savvy op!

To through on my 2p. One word. Betty’s. BOOM.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/12/2017 21:47

I’m from the rural south, but I love the atmospheric North and Yorkshire is amazing

flingingmelon · 08/12/2017 21:48

Betty's delivers worldwide. If they didn't I'd be eyeing up Ilkley stone cottages.

Fair point.

doctorcuntybollocks · 08/12/2017 21:52

West Yorkshire is fatally compromised by its proximity to Lancashire.

clippityclock · 08/12/2017 21:52

I love Yorkshire, would move there in a heartbeat if I could and I'm on the south coast. Its lush, with lovely accents.

Teddy1970 · 08/12/2017 21:55

I live near the South Downs, I love it here it's so lovely but as Queenie has pointed out there are loads of places up and down the country that are beautiful..I'm sure Yorkshire is gorgeous, but so is the Cotswolds and Cornwall..why does this have to turn into North/South competition?

Domani · 08/12/2017 21:55

When you're ill in Yorkshire, from the neighbours you receive cards, flowers, choccies, visits. When you're ill in South West, from the neighbours you receive nothing.

Crumbs1 · 08/12/2017 21:55

I was pleasantly surprised by Yorkshire recently. Harrogate was a delight. We took our ‘beast’ to Brimham rocks - it must have been his best day ever. We swam in the Nidd and laughed at Mother Shiptons. A long way from the south coast but worth the effort.

YorkieDorkie · 08/12/2017 21:55

South West? No thanks!

Two words: Yorkshire Puddings

And I don't care what you say, they taste funny south of the vale Envy.

ScreamingValenta · 08/12/2017 22:00

I'm from the SW and now in Yorkshire. They each have their good points. But you can't get chips & gravy in the SW ...

StripySocksAndDocs · 08/12/2017 22:00

There's a South West? Interesting I didn't know. Heard of Yorkshire alright. Where abouts is the South West? You should advertise it more.

PumpkinSquash · 08/12/2017 22:00

Haahahahahahahaha.

Stay Darn Sarf and leave it to us lot to enjoy and appreciate it.
If there is hype about it (is there? Confused Hmm then there's a bloody good reason for that.
It's grand.
'Appen yer talkin' shite.

JaniceBattersby · 08/12/2017 22:01

Hype? Yorkshire has some well-respected TV studios, film-markers and it’s own media museum. It has world-class artists, actors, authors and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. It’s not hype, it’s just stuff, happening in Yorkshire, because people live there and do stuff.

And all that’s coming from a Lancashire lassie.
